View Full Version : Civilians and slave girls

Will there be the possibility to play a civilian or mecenary character? There are plenty of background stories of such organisations, the Orion syndicate being a classic example. In fact DS9 thrived on civilian stories for most of the first 4 seasons.

Did you hear the one about the Andorian smuggler, the Tallerite spy, and the Orion slave girl...?

Well, we've all been hoping that there will be a class of characters where you don't have to be affiliated with the larger powers. Lets hope so, because it will just make the game much more interesting.

i would presume that they would pretty much add them but as part of an expansion pack if so that they have the core game ready first :)

Well knowing Cryptic I agree. CoX used the episode format, and Trek could use a serial structure to bring relatively large releases out, rather than do the WoW thing of blowing a massive trumpet once or twice a year, and neglecting the true fans.

yeah with WoW they really kind of screwed their subscribers over by forcing people to by an expansion pack to continue playing a game they already pay monthly for and yet somehow still getting millions of people paying to play???

Cryptic have done the best way to release expansions and that is one every few months for free like they did with CoX :)

There is a lot of hope. Probably the best game in any for to date for developing that was the old FASA tabletop game in which merchants and orion pirates each got theere own rulebooks. Much of the game was intelligence based and the game very heavy into the use of the Triangle, which was the Nuetral zone between the Federation, the Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Star Empire.

None of that was cannon. It was however a glimpse of what could be.

The game would be a thousand times richer if they don't just turn it in to a service only game. I'm hoping the vision they have for the game includes all of these things and more.

Exactly, though with Trek they could always make regular monthly upgrades by adding in new systems, races etc.

well that is what im expecting they do and they dont even need to add factions/ races in everytime as they would need time to build them up before unleashing them heh

i would presume that most updates would be for new areas that we can goto

I think, from reading a lot of these threads, there's a large population (about 30-35%) hat would enjoy not being in Starfleet/Klingon Navy and doing more mundane jobs like "dutrenium hauling", "mining", "freelance exploration", ect.

Ya, that would probably work best - I hope Earth, Vulcan, Bajor, Cardassia, and Andor, and their constituant systems, are included in the relase pack.

i should expect Earth, Vulcan, Andor, Babel One(or is that Tellar?), Qu'nos and a few other homeworlds would be included in the lauch version because you cannot have playable races without their homeworlds (also presuming Andorians, Vulcans and Tellarites will be playable at launch)

I am all for having Civilians in this game, and like it's been said not everyone wants to be Starfleet, or in the Klingon Military. Besides as it's said again, there is tons of back stories to be told, and things they can do.

heck even they have a couple ships too, and I am sure CS could makeup a few more. This could be the open ended parts of STO, that CS could fill in, and it would still keep everyone help. And we might pickup a few more player accounts along the way.

some Civilian ships:

Unless they find more injustice/oppression to fight somewhere else. There's got to be some reason to include a group of rebels in the game (ok so not necessarily the maquis), but it's an appealing thought to be one of them, fighting for a cause and all that, stickin' it to the man :D
