We should have a better idea of that after GenCon I would estimate 4th qtr 2009 I have no idea how much of perpetuals coding was salvaged, its always possible that a 2nd qtr 2009 launch is possible,to coincide with J.J Abrams rendition of Star Trek due out in May 2009.
Realistically I wouldn't put 2010 out of mind it all depends on what they intend to keep from Perpetual's attempt.

If it comes out in 2010, I will devour the faces of every single person on this board.
You have all been warned...

It was announcement that STO was being developped... which, post-Perceptual (the last developers), it was only rumors. So, additionally, the timer was therefore the official launch of these wonderful sites and forums, but stay tuned, we might actually get an idea of how long this will take after the announcements at the Vegas convention in 10 days.

We don't know yet but I would look for it to come out around the same time as the movie.

I think you might be pleasantly surprised, Falin. I believe they will try and get this game out sometime next year, which, of course, would be awesomesauce.

Well, 2010 would genuinely suck to be honest. I was also under the impression it would be around the same time as the Release of the new Film. I can handle that, but based on the amount people that post on here, with the constant detail written into several different systems and gameplay issues, then i think that it generates a bigger want for the game. Therefore im kinda impatient when it comes to waiting. I sit here reading what people have written thinking. Wow, now that sounds aweomse. Now i really want to play this game. Its annoying but lets hope for a 2009 release.

next year would be great, however, there are several titles due out xmas this yar and a few others next year, it's be marking sucide to try and push it into that mix, but 2010 is feasible, as of right now there's no "Big" titles annojnced for Xmas 2009 or 2010.
besides I'd rather have a well built, robust game than a rushed game to coincide with a flop movie.

i'm going with 2010 also. SGW is in 2009 and I wouldn't want to go agnest that if I had to rush my game out. 2010 gives time for SGW to die down and for the game to be made correctly.

Is anyone forgetting the beta stage? Crytic did an ace job with the CoH beta, so even if it is 2010 we should get a chance to play the beta :D.

Like I said until we know what exactly has been kept we cant make an educated guesstimate,Perpetual was 2 years into this so if a good chunk of coding is salvageable then a 2nd qtr 2009 alpha is not out of the question.Personally the longer it takes the better, more ships more polish more content cant go wrong with that.
GenCon will answer alot I think they have alot of perpetuals code.

Yea, but Perpetual was dumbing down and game, not fullly developign things, so they may have to re-do or expand a lot of code.

Lets hope that Cryptic take a leaf out of Crackdowns book for the console and make it interesting if they are going to indeed do a full console version. Crackdown was not dumb, rather lacked a diffinative story to carry the cool mechanics.

That will be a date for my diary, and maybe a week off work - or maybe not...

PE spent most of their time in court rather than developing the game. And if history is any indication, Cryptic wont use anything that PE implemented anyway.
I recall at least two other major MMO's where the new devs completely scrapped the old teams work and started over. Lord of the Rings is a good example...it was in development for 8 total years because it was resold and scrapped twice
MMO's take 4-5 years to develop. Star Trek therefore wont launch until 2012 at the earliest

I doubt that very much, in two days time they are going to demo the ingame stuff, therefore the engine/physics must be up and running to a certain degree, and the engine is the core of any game and I would imagine the hardest part of the game. Having said that, the true answer to the questions is "Nobody knows" and if cryptic have anything about them they wont even give an estimate as that would annoy a lot of people if that date came and went without release.
I would rather have a stable, bug free game later than a mess up sooner
