i think this is a question to ASK CRYPTIC!!

I'm actually not a big fan of digital devilery. With the complication of necessary copy protections, and the fact that several titles hag bugs that were later unfixable on the digital delivery version, I'm a skeptic. Why can't we get a downloadable that is exactly like the retail disk.... maybe even a disk image?

Well you can get WoW via digital download. Hell, you don't even have to buy the game, just get the trial and activate a subscription. Easy.

And I do hope they use STEAM if possible. I love STEAM ever so much.

Does CoH or CoV have a digital download?
I would bet they'd do the same with this game.

Since Star Trek is more popular than WoW ever will be, I think they should make the game a digital download only just to eliminate piracy and to make it more cost effective. The game is online anyway and anyone that doesn't have a fast enough connection to download this game probably won't have once sufficient for playing either.

Save the cash for adverts rather than packaging.

Either way you can bet you'll have to pay around $50 for a CD-key to authorize your account.

Smart thoughts there. Look at the developer's past work to see their tendencies. I think it will have digital download as an option, especially since it's an MMO.

I'm download CoH right now, so bets are there will be a download option for STO, but it's 2.5GB and gonna take 2 hours to download.

I never saw download times like this with EvE. At most it was like 45 mins.

of course you need to pay but digital distribution is a realy good solution allthough i like to have the game box at home i can see why people prefer this way.

i dont care either way. i just want the damn game already

but seriously, they should make it a free download like a few MMOs out there have, and just charge to get the sub out of the player. at the end of the day. peeps are going to pay IRL$$$$ for this game, me included. Cryptic just need to make it easy for peeps to P2P

roll on the 10th!

you cannot really pirate a game that you have to pay monthly for anyway :) which is why we dont see pirates playing MMO's heh

i would love it if it was on STEAM but i could settle for digital download if i cannot get it on disk :)

Do you have to buy the game in disc form like world of warcraft

Without knowing for sure, I'm 99,9% certain that there will be a disc form available at release. It's quite an important factor to be able to place a box among all the other new games in the game stores. Thats also why alot of companies release new expansions that you have to buy - being able to place something in the "new releases" section, either the original game or an expansion, is important to attract new players to a game.

A download version.. Hmm .. maybe. I can imagine it would be a bandwidth nightmare to have X thousand people trying to download Y GB all at the same time. Since you brought up WoW yourself, I don't recall that there was an option for download TBC at the release, but there is now..

So long as it doesn't end up on a free server like several other MMO's.

Another question that is being asked too early as noone knows the definitive answer. I think a "Would you prefer to buy this as a disc/digital download package" type thread would have been suitable.

Anyhow I will be looking to buy the actual disc game package presuming there is one as opposed to a digital download. In fact I would buy the special edtion even...Cryptic are you listening :D

Yes most definitely... why save all that money to buy standard when you can spend a few more and get the good one...especially when it comes ST. :)

It will most likely be possible for digital download at some point, I would plan for a disc purchase upon initial release.
