View Full Version : Emotions!

What emotions would be appropriate for this game? For some reason I can't imagine a Vulcan running by me and /fart'ing.

Heck, I can't even imagine a /dance command.

Kirk: "Yo Spock! What up!?"
Spock farts on Kirk, ew!
Spock breaks out into dance.

im sorry but every MMO should have some Dance emotes :D

heck the best ones i have seen and played around with is those in Gods and Heroes where you could perform Thriller, the dance from Napoleon Dynamite, a line dance, irish dance, moonwalk!! and a few party fance moves :)

There's got to be a /dance one, regardless :D All the famous Captains could cut quite the rug, you know ;)

I guess Klingons could roar or something physically intimidating.. Vulcans could raise an eyebrow at the illogic surrounding them..

Let's see:

/dance (Disco never dies!)
/laugh (gotta do that with a Vulcan!)
/sigh
/meditate (sit down, cross legs, make that "OK" sign with your fingers and close your eyes)
/fart (why not? people still fart in the 25th century!)
/scan (take out your tricorder and fake scan in front of you)
/ponder (put hand to chin and tilt head)
/threaten (shake fist!)
/phaser (take out hand weapon and fake shoot in front of you. if you're targeting a player you turn to them and fake shoot them)

That's all I can come up with for now.

A few I can think of are:
/Ale
You take a big swig of Romulan ale and stars appear above your head
/shaky
You move around vilotlently as if your ship were under attack
/Coffee
You sit and regally sip a cup of Joe
/Captians Stance
You stand as though you are commanding the enterprise
/Dance
Who dosent want to see a Klingon do the funky chicken?
/stragize
you sit and look as though you are in deep thought
(been said) /Khan
You look really ****ed off and than shout at the heavens
/Curse you
You shake your fist at someone
/tug
you tug at your uniform (like Picard did everytime he rose from his chair)
/Fix
You pull out a hydrospanner and some type of equipment in an attemt to repair it
/Stun
you have been stunned and fall to the ground

njdss4

I like /tug! Patrick Stewart really hated those uniforms!

Is any of this really... necessary in an MMO? seems a little pointless... particularly the fart and belch commands... I could see little emotes that express emotion like anger or happiness or something...but farting in Star Trek? People would abuse those commands like there's no tomorrow.

/salute
This would be different depending on the race of the character. This is where the humans would do a military style salute, the Vulcans would do their "Live long and Prosper" hand sign, Klingons would hit their fist to their chest then straighten their arm outward.

/comm
I like that one, the characters touch their comm-badge, with an accompanying "chirp" sound effect.

/scan
I like that one too, great for RP. Pull out a tricorder and wave it around with noise and lights blinking. Just for show (the same animation could be use for actual skills, but give us a way to trigger it for just RP).

/sit
We have to have a sit command, to sit on the ground, and sit in a chair or on a bench when we are close enough to it.

/feint - /collapse
This would make the character fall to the ground and lie motionless, as if they feinted, collapsed, or died. Great for RP so a medical officer could come /scan you then /hypo (see below) so we can RP that we just got injected with some strange, unknown space virus.

/hypo
Pull out a Hypospray and hypo yourself (if no one targeted) or another player if someone is targeted.

/nod
This would be the head nod done to acknowledge an order, often seen by lower ranking officers (extras who had to signal "aye captain" or "understood" but without having lines of dialogue).

While it's not for everyone, a large percentage of players will want some RP elements such as emotes with animation, even if it's to goof around and not "serious RP".

Yes! We must have that one! Provided we can hang out on each other's ships, my friend and I are planning to work together, where he RP's as the captain and I take on the role of the commander. I expect him to /facepalm many, many times a day. :D

Some e-motes could be something like:

command______|Animated|Audio|effect

/padd_________|___ x___|__x__ |you pull out a padd tap a few buttons and start going over the info on it.
/atease_______|___ x___ |_____ | you stand At Ease
/cheer________|___ x___|__ x__ | You cheer! (You cheer at (Target)).
/bow_________|___ x___|__ x__ | You bow down. (You bow before (Target)).
/bye__________|___ x___|__ x__ |You wave goodbye. (You wave goodbye to (Target)).
/grats or /gratz__|___x___|__x___|You congratulate everyone. (You congratulate (Target)).
/snarl*_________|___x___|__x__|You bare your teeth and snarl (You bare your teeth and snarl at (Target)).
/sorry or /sry___|___x___|___x__| You apologize to everyone. (You apologize to (Target)).
/ty____________|___x___|___x__|You thank everyone (You thank (Target)).
/yw___________|___x___|___x__|You tell everyone Your Welcome (You tell (Target) Your Welcome).
/welcome_______|__x___|___x__| You welcome everyone. (You welcome (Target)).
/salute_________|___x___|_____|You come to attention and salute.
/Typing_________|___x___|_____|You start start typing on the lower LCARS
/screen________|____x___|_____|You start typing on the higher LCARS

* snarl might be better used by Klingons.
this is just a few that i could think of.
I hope that "fart" does not get used because i can see that getting misused a lot.

So long as Androids do the robot, and Vulcans do the... hmm... ermmmm... The Napoleon Dynamite or something.

I'd love for Klingons to do the "Shaun of the Dead", and have a pre-programmed clip of Don't Stop Me Now playing as you do it, but imagine the programming. Oh well... It'll always have a spot for that in my dreams.

Qa'Pla!

EDIT: Better idea. Have the klingons sing the song from "Star Trek: Klingon"

In addition to the emotes listed above (*hugs /tug, omg I want /tug SO BAD), I hope that we'll have some variation on the Moods and Stances that will be in Champions Online.

For those unfamiliar, over in Champions-land, we'll be able to choose stances for our characters, which include idle animations, run animations, and so forth. In that game's case, that means that we'll be able to choose anywhere between a standard heroic posture to a four-legged beastial one, and a range of other options in between. While those specifics aren't quite right for Trek, I'd like to see the system adapted - you can have your proper officers and your Vulcans, your fidgety Barclays and your boastful warriors. (You know you want to see a Klingon with their posture set to something a little more Ferengi, ADMIT IT.)

Moods, on the other hand, are... well... moods. From the trailer, it looks like we have fully-animatable faces, again like Champions. :)

Thanks for the tid-bit on Champions seeing as it is the same engine and the same company it might well be we will see some form of this in ST:O

As for those that don't want fart or dance or any of those emotes that seem less than proper. Don't use them and just like you probably won't spend time with people who don't play the game the way you do, you don't have to spend time with people who use the emotes you find offensive.

This is one of the great things about having your own crew of NPC's no need to be stuck with a bunch of immature 12 year olds "tea baging" each other.

/engage - make the hand gesture
/picard - tug the hem of shirt downwards

Like people should avoid emote that don't fit for them, noone is forced to play with immature people.
And still have a crew of PCs :)

For Vulcans is a must.

I really do hope the animations and art people really do tackle this part of the game for aesthetic reasons. However, if they just work on a tool to make it easy to add them in as they go that'd be just as good.

Cryptic's City of Heroes/Villains has the best set of emotes I've seen in any MMO so we should see a nice selection.

I really think STO should consider ( and they may have already ) not have any sortof "emotions"/emotes in this game. Somehow, it just doesn't fit with the picture I have of Star Trek. Adding some of those I have seen mentioned above make me think that their are going to be a lot of youngsters running around "farting" just to get their giggles. If that is that case, this won't be a Star Trek game.

O come on I bet even Tuvok had to let some slip out lol. In fact I bet a vulcan would just let them rip lol they would not feel embarrassed, it is a normal body function to be embarresd about that would be illogical you should embrace your farts its not healty to hold them in....
