Bob punched Joe for 12 damage.
Joe used a health hypospray and healed 300 HP.
Bob used "Epic Maneuver", Epic Maneuver failed.

Please no. I don't wan this game to feel like any other MMORPG. Heck, I want the possible RPG elements to be well hidden if there at all. Plus I don't want people phasing each other 20 times until they die.

Ensign Redshirt stepped on a landmine and flew through the air.
I hadn't thought of it before but you are correct. The combat system for ST:O needs to be different after all one phaser hit can kill.

That seems more Counter-Strike related than MMO related...

Perpetual was talking about personal shields and/or body armor type stuff. I would assume these things would absorb phaser hits.

I agree 100%
Damage points and turn based combat are so 1988. ;)
In star trek if you take a direct hit with a phaser, you're down for the count... unless you have some creepy parasites that have crawled down your mouth or your NPC opponent is a bit more resistant to the stun setting than he appears. (break out the phaser rifles and set to level 16 boys).
Cover and concealment tactics in a real time battle environment ftw!

I'm not a fan of conveniently appearing body armor and personal shields. We haven't seen them on much more than the Borg. I'd probably want to keep it that way.

Sometimes I did it in WoW. It's more demeaning when you're in Bear Form.
I think I have too much respect for Star Trek to do it in this though lol.

You forget this is many years after the Federation has encountered the Borg and have had access to Seven of Nine. I'm sure they've learned quite a few things from the Borg and have expanded on them.

Oh man was tea-bagging ever rampant in Halo!
In fact, if you didn't tea bag, people would make fun of you, or be scared of you. :p

What about the option to switch to an FPS perspective like Elite Force? Real time combat.

They need to not say "Hey, this is years in the future, we can do what we want, when we want with the lore!". I'd like it to feel like Star Trek. They shouldn't disregard too much just because there very little lore about the time period.

"MMOFPS"? Thanks, but no thanks. My dedication to Star Trek is deep, but not that deep.
I hope the Devs would reveal that fiasco early on, so I might avoid the ST:O title altogether.

I'm concerned that regardless of the claims by Cryptic to include exploration and the ideals of Trek, so much of this game is gonna revolve around combat and war. Don't get me wrong, I like a good fight, but I'm really hoping to get alot more exploration and alot less combat with this Trek title.

I'm kind of expecting it to take on the hybrid semi-fps approach myself. Still not a big fan of that though. I play an rpg, even online, I sort of prefer the turn-based approach. If I wanted a FPS... I'd play one sort of opinion on it. But, I've kind of gotten used to it in SWG so this wouldn't be too different if they use that kind of template.
We'll see though. I'm expecting to see some ground and starship combat when they do the video reveal in Las Vegas.
