So we know the Federation and Klingon Empire are playable.
Are they fighting actively? Are they friends?
If they're truly at war I'd hope there would be a good reason. Maybe a shadow enemy is influencing them like in the Dominion War... Idunno, something. Something other than Bethseda's try at a Star Trek story with Star Trek Legacy which was "Everyone is fighting eachother! Why? Idunno they just are!"

I'm hoping that Cryptic is treating this like other games do when you pick races. If you pick human you start on Earth, but if you pick the Klingons you start on Qo'nos (or Kronos, or however it's spelled). Doesn't mean you're fighting, it's just so that you start off with your own people.

if anything i think:
Feds and Klingons = still allies
Romulans are on neutral basis with both Feds and Klingons
a rouge group of the Tal Shiar intel service of the Romulans are trying to kill kirk in the past so that romulans can take over the federation easily and as a distraction to avert the federations eyes of that planet a fleet of the the rouge tal shiar un-cloak and being to attack the fleet stationed over the planet that has the portal (seen in TOS epi "The city on the edge of the forever") to give teh time-traveling team enough time to get down to the planet and go through the portal :)

We don't really know what the backstory is. Unless they're using a lot of the stuff Perpetual came up with, we'll just have to wait. Some good info should be coming out of the upcoming Trek convention.

If theyre going with the 25th century setting, The Feddies and Klingons are "friends", at least politically, or as much as the Empire is ever really friendly.
But I so hope Cryptic finds some way of letting the Klingons and the Federation be hostile. Because c'mon. We all know thats how it should be.
It's what Kirk would want.

superzero, well im basing mine on the new Star Trek movie :D which the story is a group of romulans gain access to the portal (which i mentioned before) and go back in-time to kill kirk and i was just exagerating that along with the picture above the boards :)

It's what Kirk would want.
"I'll never forgive them for the death of my son."
Kirk may want it, but I still want the Federation and the Klingons to be allies. I hope the Federation has expanded in Cryptic's STO.

Looking at the banner up top, than you can get an idea who's fighting who. I personally would like to see a faction based Rp-PvP system, with 3-4 factions, each vying for power. Make it to where like the Mirror Universe found a way to keep a steady wormhole open to the parallel universe and managed to send fleets through, so now it's sort of a free for all, nobody knows who is on who's side and there will be many space battles, ship boardings, and ground fights.

Well if they are picking up where Perpetual left off the Feds and Klingons will be allies against a new faction. And hopefully as the game progresses and the story moves along various wars will start and be settled.
