For ten years devout Trekkers (like myself) have been able to make pilgramages to what I call Star Trek Mecca, the Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. I was devastated to learn that the Experience was closing shop. I will sincerely miss all the great times there and regret not being able to make more. My favorite themed experience in my life so far and I certainly hope that September 1st will not be the end for this wonderful attraction. I am going to the Las Vegas Official Star Trek Convention this August to say my goodbyes and just thought it would be cool to hear from other Trekkers about their experiences with the experience. I look forward to reading your posts.
PS. I have been waiting for a Star Trek MMO since MMOs were invented, maybe ten years or so. I was glued to my computer during the Perpetual crisis, and cannot express how overjoyed I am that Cryptic has saved the sinking ship that was STO. Thanks and I cant wait to play.

Yeah I have been saddened that the Experience at the Hilton is closeing as well I love that place. The only thing I did not like was that it was owned by the Hilton's lol. Oh well at least I had some good times there. unfortunately I don't think that I will make it out there before Sept. 1st but I have gone numerous times so I can't really complain that much. Did you get to go to see "Star trek the Tour?" It was traveling around for a while it might even still be on tour but I am not certain about that. That was a pretty cool place, so much stuff to do and so little time. At least we have the memories!

Darn! I never made it to that side of the country to visit the Star Trek Experience. Guess I'll have to live through your posted experiences. :(

If you haven't gone on the two experiences before I highly suggest that you try to make it.
I still haven't figured out how they "teleport" the riders, lol.

I live in Las Vegas and sadly ive only visited the Star Trek Experience twice. The ride is actually quite fun, on one of the rides people dress up as the Borg and chase you around the station. I think i was twelve the last time i visited the Hilton, but anyways i highly suggest you visit the Hilton.

I am not going on my own but if I can find a Trek friend to go with then I am there lol. Any takers on here lol?

Even despite the current credit crunch, I would be willing to pay for the trip to see The Experience.
Once its gone on Sept 1st, its gone.
In all likelyhood its probably not gonna happen :(

Despite how the Experience is ending, there still is the Tour which is slowly making its way across the United States. I believe it was in San Diego last I heard. It has changed its name to something starting with an E, I can't remember what. It sounds really cool though and similar to the experience because it has a few shuttle craft rides and life size sets from TNG and other shows. It also is supposed to have props too. So far all of you who are upset over not being able to make it to the experience, cheer up because the Tour is still out there somewhere.

Never got to see these as I never have made it out to Vegas, but I was aware of them, and they were on my 'must see' list if I ever did get out that way. I am disappointed to hear they are closing. My loss I guess.

I went twice, first was back in 1996 when it first opened. The last and second time is when I got married in Vegas and my bro paid for us go (he is the Trekkie or we wouldn't have gone) and thus my wife was introduced to it. I never did see what they did after the revamp but I am very sad to see it go, it was a great ride.

I consider myself lucky to get to experience "The Experience" before it closes. I will be in Vegas for the Con, my first Con and my first trip to the Hilton to see the Experience. Thankfully, I get my chance. I feel for those of you who won't get to see it.
The Experience closes in September, so if you aren't going to the Con, then you won't have much time after it to get a final look.

Star Trek the Experience was really cool. Perhaps it would have been more successful longer in a hotel farther out on the Vegas strip. But the fact that it made it 10 years is very impressive.

Wow, that's a shame. I enjoyed the museum a lot and the Klingon ride in a shuttlecraft was really cool.
Some collector is going to have a field day with all the stuff that will liekly be auctioned off from the museum. I wish I could afford the 6' long model of the Enterprise. It was quite beautiful.

I've seen it once, it is so freakin' awesome! When my fiance told me it was closing I knew I had to somehow get him there. So this Saturday we are driving out there (5 hours in one direction) just to see it. Don't ask me which orifice I plan on pulling the money from...

It's sad that it is closing. I went once when in Vegas on business and the Star Trek Museum was so awesome as well as the 4-D stuff. To stand on the Bridge of the Next Gen Set (I know, not really but..) with people standing around in trek uniforms was outstanding. My wife didn't understand but it was the best thing for me out in Vegas. I remember it fondly and I got a picture of myself as a borg!!!! Good Times!
Im guessing once STO has been out for a few years Cryptic or even STO will have their own Convention maybe due to the size of the Star Trek fanbase. Damn i wish i could of gone to the Experience.

It'll be sad that the experience will be closed before i get to America again. It was the scene of my ultimate trekkie dream. I managed to get the last ride before it closed at midnight, at the bridge they stopped the whole thing and let us check it all out, I got to sit in the Captains chair, pure bliss.

I first heard about the StarTrek Experience about 8 years ago and it was not very practical for me to go as I was not making much money and my family could not afford to send me. I have lived through the Youtube videos and reviews of the event, and I must say it seems a wonderful experience. Although I do not think I will be able to go there before Sept. 1st to experience it, I still have a hope of one day visiting it elsewhere.
It is a wonderful business opportunity for someone with a good amount of money. You could have the movies playing in a constant open theater. There could be screenings for upcoming movies and series. The technology for these rides/ multimedia experiences has greatly improved in the last 10 years. This could be made into a wonderful experience. Personally I think that Quark’s Bar could have be designed to mimic the one in the show more closely. And perhaps a more authentic menu would have been better.
I also note that there are some StarTrek items, but not a big selection of costumes and uniforms which would likely have been big sellers.
Just as this game has left the hands of P2 and moved to Cryptic, I think The StarTrek Experience is in for some changes. Don’t count it out just yet, as I am sure we will be seeing an exciting future for it.
On a more personal note, on site could be a gaming experience that takes place “inside” a ship. There your crew would interact with the bridge controls to effect the outcome of the event. Perhaps something advanced like this could be designed.

The Hilton has great room rates, a fantastic pool area, and the Star Trek Experience. What kind of ******** wouldn't stay there? Plus it's right on the tram route, so you can see the whole strip for a $25 pass that lasts 3 days and never have to drive or take a cab.

I was also extremely sad to hear about this. I went to the States in 2002 in July, they were still organising Borg 4D, so I only got to experience the main theme ride.
To those who went. How F%$#%$# awesome was the beam up experience! I was so suprised, it was amazing. Your in the turbolift, shakes, statics, large flash of lights then a bright light and your in The Enterprise's transporter room. I couldn't believe it.
I don't think anything was overpriced at all. It was an authentic ST experience. Getting to go on a replica Enterprise Bridge, with the klingons attacking, it was sensational, and probably the closest thing to being in an episode. It was all done brilliantly, and the storyline of being picard's distant relations was great. Loved coming down in the shuttle at the end over The Hilton. There is a great youtube video for those that haven't been, it was filmed illegally (you obviously couldn't film) but it bought back so many memories of the entire experience.
CBS have stated they are looking for a new home for the venture, one I hope they pursue. I know when I am back in the states I will make an effort to go.
I also still have my photo of where they take a snap shot of you and put you in one of the series' crew shots. I chose TNG at the time, I didn't realise what was happening, so an Aussie in a surf style brim hat, with a huge grin, doesn't really fit next to Picard and the others. But I still have it, and reminds me of a fantastic experience.
Thanks for an awesome experience. Was the Borg 4D experience any good? Was it similar to the klingon encounter? Were you in hallways etc walking around?

I am so glad I made it. I went there the opening year when I was a teenager and took away so many great memories. The bartender at Quark's thought I was cute so she gave me free (non-alcoholic) drinks and my parents surprised me with a full uniform and comm badge that I could wear. We stayed in Vegas for 5 days and every single day I went. I'll have to post my pictures here sometime.

I wish they would have allowed you to purchase one of the borg sphere glasses while I was there. They will probably auction it off near the actual closing, which means I won't have a keepsake other than the trinkets purchased from the store.
I will be honest and state I was never a fan of the Borg ride, but I did like the original ride. I was there the first year it opened, and now as it turns out, there one month before the closing.
I hope someone realizes the potential market even just Quarks would give to a hotel. Knock down O'Sheas and attach it to the Imperial Palace. They have all the celebrity impersonators, wouldn't it be fun to have a Klingon dealing blackjack?

Noooo...
I've been twice myself..once when I met some online Star Trek pals in 2001 and again with my GF in I believe 2006 it was.
This totally sucks beyond all comprehension.....seriously....everything is about money isn't it?
This is what happens when they don't have a current tv show to keep enough folks interested or what?
It saddens me...the fickle, shallow nature of the day..I wanted to get back with my two young daughters so they could experience the museum and the rides..they are 11 and 13 and huge trek fans...now they won't get to experience that and cherish those memories...I didn't have the cash on hand to make it down there on short notice now that I find out they are closing..it is quite depressing. Thank God I have pictures....too sad.

That's it. I quit. Learned about it back in '94-'95, signed up for updates, the whole nine. My dad has been there several times since it opened. he once promised me that he would take me and my brother out there when we both were 21, but that was four (almost five) years ago. And now, I'll never have a chance to see it for myself.

I just hope....pray...that perhaps it reopens somewhere not TOO far from where it's been...what if Universal Studios gave it a home? Damn though..it's not just the rides..it's the museum and Quark's Bar and the memorabilia shop...damn damn damn it to hell anyways. I mean what are they gonna use all that space for now? Whatever it ends up being we can assume it won't be nearly as kickass. Anyways...at least there are some of us who have memories...and the new movie (pray it doesn't suck) and this game coming out...so that's something at least. It doesn't make it better, but it's "something".
Yeah I know, I sound all down in the dumps as though someone died...but it's a real shame that's all.

I think if Quarks HAD market potential it wouldn't have closed. Remember a hotel is a BUSINESS. If Quark's had been raking in the dough, it would still be there.
Oh man, you totally won the internet. Too bad a simple Google search could show you that STTE isn't owned by the Las Vegas Hilton. Hell, ask anyone that works for Cedar Fair why it's closing. Though you'll probably get as many different answers as you will people, it's not because it's a poor performer. STTE is Cedar Fair's star performer, with the highest net income per gross spent.
STTE rakes in the cash like nobody's business, even if its not at the peak performance of ten years ago.

I was able to visite ST: EXP with my brother back in 2003 and we had a BLAST! It's sad to see it closeign but I've herd rumors they may set it up else where, Orlando, L.A., NYC ? I don't know how true that is, but Orlando would be a great place, we have the Kennedy Space Center 45 min away (aka, Geek Mecca) an well established tourist trade with Disney, Sea World, Universal, ect ect ect and a very active Sci-Fi/Trek community. Hell we have two Vulkon's each year and between Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach something like five Trek Chapters.

I hate to have to dispel this rumor, but if they're not willing to pay half a million dollars a year in rent, they're not going to pay ten million dollars to move and re-build. And hell, if it were about money, STTE would stay open.

Actually, funny thing. We're not supposed to answer most of the questions we do. We just get damn tired of answering the same damn five questions, half of them with "my non-disclosure agreement prevents me from commenting on that."

The photomorphs we do now are way better than this. It actually got so bad with the people that did those (they were a separate group that used our space) that we had to kick them out; the wardrobe and electricity cost for their booth was greater than our 30% cut. Plus the whole unprofessional nature of the teenagers that ran it, and the high-pressure sales tactics they used ****ed off everyone in the building, customer and employee alike.

The current plan is if they can disassemble them to be reassembled, then they will be and shipped somewhere that Paramount wants them. If they can't be easily dismantled, then put back together, then it's the sledge for them.

I'll even try to get on the last ride, probably prefer Klingon Encounter over Borg Invasion, but will take what I can get. Either should provide me with some memorabilia.;)
I have talked some with STTE staff during my last visit, one of them an alien, not in character at the time (not in makeup or costume; not her day on duty). I heard from her there's quite a bit of acting background and practice put into these characters and that they work tirelessly to never break character the entire time they are on duty, even if there's someone who appears to be a talent agent or a bothersome child or a really obnoxious drunk or what have you.
The sad thing in my opinion is this talent is wasted, not appreciated, not even known to be there by most people who visit Quark's and the shops. Aside from a nod of the head or posing to take a photograph, nearly nobody engages these characters in conversation, learning their names, where they come from (not just the planet!), some of their backstory, why they are on the station, and so forth. If only these characters were free to invite to lunch or to sit down and have a drink (non alcoholic perhaps), there's quite a lot of in character dialogue a dyed-in-the-wool trek fan could have fun chatting with them. But I'm sure that would be creepy for the actors, but believe me, I'd LOVE to meet an alien if only via role-playing like that.
Another thing intrigued me, when one of my behind-the-scenes tour group asked me how the staff got their job. They basically said they'd work for free. They like the show, the setting, the aliens, acting, the ride, the museum, all so much. So since that wasn't an answer, I guess it was just apply, say you'd accept any salary, work any hours, take any position, and hope.

Man, you're kind of screwed there. Chances are very good the line will be hours long. You can always come and check other stuff out; but if you can bump your flight to earlier (especially a day earlier), do it.
I'll even try to get on the last ride, probably prefer Klingon Encounter over Borg Invasion, but will take what I can get. Either should provide me with some memorabilia.;)
The last Borg Invasion and Klingon Encounter launch at 9:00 and 9:30 respectively, but they're gonna cost a lot. (They're talking in the range of at least a hundred dollars.) Last normal-priced ride will be at 8:00, but again the line will be hours long, so just try to get in on the last day, instead of early. I suggest getting in line before we open.

I am greatly saddened by this news as well.. I just learned of Star Trek the Experiance closing down tonight at work.. I have gone two or maybe three times.. and I loved it every single time. I really enjoyed the last time with the Borg invasion... That was a hoot.. but it is really sad that a Franchise that has made so many people happy and even more people rich , wont step up and help to save this part of Star Trek Lore..
To many people adopt the "Oh well" attitude about such things.. and they fall by the way side...this is simply unaceptable.. but what are you going to do.. Hopefully, the Stqr Trek Movie coming out will be a grweat hit.. I have never been a fan of an "Academy Days" movie, as it has been proven that the been there done that type movies are very rarely a success...
I would think that a progression of the Star Trek Timeline, or another series that Star Trek Online can draw off of would be more pertanent

This is horrible news. I've been to the ST Experience twice in the late 1990's, but I've never got the chance to ride the Borg Invasion 4D. I have also gotten my wife interested in the Star Trek universe just these past few months, watching reruns of Voyager (she loves Seven of Nine as much as I do!). The added sad part is we were planning a Vegas trip during this coming Thanksgiving holiday, since: 1. she's never been to Vegas, and 2. After telling her all about the Star Trek Experience, she's very excited about going.... But now, we won't be able to enjoy the greatest sci-fi experience in this quadrant of the globe.
I wish we knew about the closure sooner so we could've made the trip. It is truly unfortunate that this STE did not live long and prospered....

The Borg Invasion was downright awful, IMO. They sat you in a theater with shiatsu massage chairs. No transporter, no real actors, no "ride". But I still think the original Experience was the best of its kind, even after trying the newest Simpsons one at Universal Studios. Getting to step onto the bridge of the Enterprise was worth it alone.

Star Trek: The Experience (http://pics.livejournal.com/bear_helms/gallery/0001d0w2) lastday photos, featuring crowds, aliens, cast, and museum pieces. Over 100 images, just click on a thumbnail for larger images (and I think each image can be clicked on again for original size).
I feel a great loss now that this attraction no longer exists - so much so I have no reason to vacation in Las Vegas anymore. I did manage to get some "interviews" with some of the aliens, asking for parting words. (I believe the gallery should have these too, but they are not in streaming format - they'd have to be downloaded and played.)
