View Full Version : What is your all time favorite episode of Star Trek, ST:TNG, ST:DS9, ST:VOY?

This may be a tough decision for many, but I have one episode that is the all time defining episode of the STAR TREK series. My favorite is:
"All Good Things..." The last episode of the last season of ST:TNG, is the greatest episode out of all of all the STAR TREK shows out there, imho. Actually, it's also better than most of the ST movies.

Mine would have to be "Yesterday's Enterprise" or "In a Mirror, Darkly". I know Enterprise wasn't as popular as the other series, but that episode was awesome.

"Balance of Terror", but I'll also accept City on the Edge of Forever, Amok Time, or Space Seed. Nothing in subsequent shows comes even close to that kind of classic science fiction.
If you take TOS out of the equation, I would probably say "The Best of Both Worlds" two parter from TNG. That was the first time I recall thinking that show might actually have a pulse.

Ya know, I have to agree with this. Yeah I have seen some of the original Star Trek episode's, but ST:TNG was my show. And the last show was very well written and just did the whole series justice. Was sad to see them all go.

Mine would definately have to be 'Trials And Tribble-ations' From Deep Space Nine, Season 5.
A special 30th aniversary featuring a cross-over with Captain Kirk and the original enterprise crew and the Tribbles. It utilises "Forest Gump" style effects to add the DS9 crew to old footage. A great adventure showing that there's a fun side to Star-Trek just as the original Tribbles episode made us smile more than 30 years ago. :D

TNG: Q Who
is probably my all time favorite. I have just always loved the Q story lines and this one took the cake.

Also have to go with DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight", or TNG's "The inner Light"
For something like what I'd expect from ST:O, maybe the TNG epsidoe arc's for "Unification" or "Redemption"
But then there is "The Chase", and "Booby Trap"
Too many good choices

Hmm I would have to agree with "Yesterdays Enterprise" as being my favorite ST:TNG episode, but my favorite episodes overall would have to be ST: VOY's Scorpion parts I & II.

If i'd have to go for one episode for each series. Not counting TOS, then this would probably be my list.
They might not be the best, but they certainly amused me well enough.
TNG: Data's day.
DS 9: Little Green Men
Voyager: Year of Hell
Enterprise: The Catwalk
Corvid
07-28-2008, 11:52 AM
OS: Space Seed
TNG: Brothers (gottta love Lore)
DS9: In the cards (Jack runs around trying to get a baseball card for his dad)
Voy: Prime Factors (This is when I thought Voy would be great. Rather than a bit dissapointing)
Ent:: Ina mirror darkly followed closly by Bound (The orion ep)

Doomsday Machine, for sure. That's the episode that got me hooked back in the ancient days of over-the-air broadcasts :)

My favorite episode is "Darmok" because of its unique approach to language, and the way it shows the UT isn't infallible. Although I must say that the achilles heel of the episode is that Data should have figured out the mechanics of the language in the first 20 mins.
Then there's 'Naked Now', cuz who wouldn't want to get 'fully functional' with Tasha Yar?
I liked all of the Mirror episodes, took some of the fuzzy bunny edge off, and any episode with Kurn or K'Ehleyr in it.

TOS: Balance of Terror
TNG: The Best of Both Worlds "trilogy" (favourite single episode would be The Inner Light)
DS9: Far Beyond the Stars
VOY: The Void
ENT: Proving Grounds
All-time favourite: my TNG choice(s)

Love the episode in Enterprise with the mirror universe and the TOS ship. I'm a sucker for anything nostalgia, and they way the old plastic 60's ship being such uber-technology just gave me goosebumps. Didn't exactly care for the rest of the show though.

Balance of Terror was fantastic because it gave an almost WWII U-boat feel to starship combat, which I thought felt very realistic.
Q, Who? was also a classic because it completely and irrevocably shattered the seeming invincibility of the Federation.

Classic: The Trouble with Tribbles or maybe the episode with the telekinetic power guys. Grrr forget what it's called.
TNG: The episode where they come across that chemical that had affected Kirk's crew. Where they all acted as if they were drunk including Data. Tasha Yar hehehehe
Voyager: The Year of Hell or the season finale. Janeway is psycho :-D
DS9: The episode where the alien psychic memories make everyone turn on each other except for the security officer.

TNG: Tapestry (runner-up: The Best of Both Worlds "trilogy")
DS9: The Siege of AR-558 (runner-up: Starship Down)
VOY: Year of Hell (runner-up: Message in a Bottle)
At its best, Star Trek was capable of producing art. How much of that can Star Trek Online capture...?

I enjoyed the episode where the Enterprise was stuck in a loop and kept crashing into a Federation starship that was trapped in the anamoly in space. I always wondered what happened to that TOS era ship and crew. For the life of me i cant remember the name of the episode since there were a lot of TNG episodes. I also enjoyed Yesterdays Enterprise. I was really surprised by that episode when it came out. I had always wondered what the Enterprise-C looked like till then.

Inner Light I think.
I love the irony of Picard living that life so that he could tell people about their culture and Picard being a very private person who would most likely not share much of the life he lived, except in reports (and when he fell in love).
If someone life the Doctor (Voyager) had been the one, then there would have been holonovel recreations of the entire thing.

There has always been one episode that touched me. It is the one where a probe knocks out Capt. Picard and takes him to another life to educate him on the culture the probe is from. He lives a lifetime in a matter of minutes. That episode really left me thinking and still does today.

Another good one is where the lady is meant for an ambassador and will become the perfect soulmate and she tells Picard that she attuned to him just before she leaves. That always left me thinking what it would be like to know that there is your perfect match out there but you can never be with her.

I am not sure of the episode name and I don't have the time right this second to look it up, but its the one on Voyager where the EMH writes and gets to use the Emergency Command program and the Hierarchy thinks they are too big a risk to engage (due to his antics.) It always makes me laugh.

TOS: Not really sure
TNG: Frame of Mind
DS9: In the Pale Moonlight
VOY: The Killing Game
ENT: These Are The Voyages...
With that last one I don't mean to take anything away from Enterprise by copping out and chosing the last episode. I thought the series was pretty decent and I wish it could have made it to seven seasons.

I agree with a lot of the choices, as fantastic episodes, but there are a couple gems that stand out:
Original Series: Journey to Babel (just the first look at Andorians and Sarek make this a great episode)
TNG: The Chase, which finally explains why nearly all the intelligent alien types seem to be variations of a standard humanoid shape. I'm going to cheat and also mention Darmok, too (and Inner Light, but tons of other people have mentioned that one).

Deep Space Nine is the only series I have seen every episode of, since my lover is a fan and she convinced me to watch it all on DVD with her at the rate of about eight episodes per week. So, my other selections may or may not appear very strange to those who know the other series better. I won't even attempt the original series, as I've seen perhaps a total of about seven episodes.
The Next Generation: Parallels
Deep Space Nine: In the Pale Moonlight
Voyager: Scorpion

No question "Yesterday's Enterprise"
I did like Enterprise, wished that it laster longer.
As a person with the entire collection (yes my wife is a huge fan too). I have to agree here. With the TNG being my favorite (do you always like the one you grew up with??????) "Yesterdays Enterprise" is the one for me.
Many people slated the "Enterprise" series but I have to admit if you watch it with an open mind and treat it just like a different series rather than looking for confilicts between it and TOS stories lines it's actually much better than I was lead to believe.

Any episode of Enterprise, the concept of HOW the Federation was created, and the events prior to TOS are facinating. All things technologically advaced has a beginning. Sometimes the specifics of
how something came to be, or the relation to technology in, let's say TNG all started with Enterprise
The true pioneers of the Universe. Entering into the unknown and taking that 1st Journey
is the Ultimate. If that opportunity came up, I would be the first to sign up, even if my duty was a red shirt wearing janitor cleaning a latreen on a five year mission, don't matter...I'm there, just to be a part of it.

Seriously, I really liked "Prey" from season 4 of Voyager. Not really a stand-out episode, until the end when Seven turns over the Species 8472 alien to the Hirogen and ****es off Janeway. Absolutely loved that.
That was a really good episode because it showed the viewer the similarities and differences between Janeway and Seven when it comes to protecting the crew of Voyager. This is a really good topic, but I just can't pick one. I've always been a fan of TNG, but Voyager blew me away, especially after "Scorpion."
But I haven't watched a single episode of ENTERPRISE. I was going to school full time and also working full time for 2 years, so I missed it. I've been planning on getting the series, but I promised myself that I would collect Voyager first.
Off topic:
Is ENTERPRISE good? Better than Voyager or not as good as Voyager?

I've enjoyed every series of Star Trek, except for Enterprise. I don't know what the producers were thinking when they came up with that show - Scott Bakula as a starship captain? Come on!
Anyway, my favorite episodes by series:
TOS
1. Balance of Terror
2. The City on the Edge of Forever
3. Court Martial
TNG - bunch of great 2 parters
1. The Best of Both Worlds, parts 1 & 2
2. Redemption, parts 1 & 2
3. Chain of Command, parts 1 & 2
DS9
1. Call to Arms
2. Favor the Bold
3. Far Beyond the Stars
VOY
1. Scorpion, parts 1 & 2
2. Hope and Fear
3. Timeless

Do I have my favorites, most definitely, but that changes with my mood and the state of my life at the moment. TBH, I love STAR TREK, have since the first episode I watched as a rug rat in those lovely days in the 60's. I am very open minded when it comes to the evolution of my characters in the many series and even more so in the bounty of Star Trek books I have read over the years. I will have to sit down and make a list of the ones that I hold dear. The list may be long but the beauty of it is, soon very soon. We will have a new movie and if there is a God and I am sure he is a Klingon......... we will have new tv series also.

Most of my favorites have been from TNG. I always seem to enjoy the ones which explore alternate style universes for some reason.
Parrallels is one of my favorites. I quite enjoyed Future Imperfect and All Good Things is also top on my list.
Another that I really enjoyed was Times Arrow.
But theres plenty more that I could mention if I thought about it.

I agree. After plowing through seven seasons of TNG (which was a great show, don't get me wrong) on DVD, It was quite refreshing to see Enterprise. I liked the cowboy diplomacy – which reminded me of TOS – and it was easier to relate to the emotional state of the characters. Picard & crew were always so enlightened and smug.
But yes, "Yesterdays Enterprise" is number one for me as well. What a great episode.

Take me out to the Holosuite. As a huge baseball fan i always felt connected to Sisko, adn this showed the crew doing something outside their normal duties.

This may be a tough decision for many, but I have one episode that is the all time defining episode of the STAR TREK series. My favorite is:
"All Good Things..." The last episode of the last season of ST:TNG, is the greatest episode out of all of all the STAR TREK shows out there, imho. Actually, it's also better than most of the ST movies.
i think it could be its own movie:D

TNG: Q Who? (I like the way Q kicked Picard and the Enterprise out of their comfort zone and slapped them with a taste of deep interstellar reality)
VOY: Tsunkatse (Seven versus the Rock, and the he Rock-bottoms her! Awesome ep.)

I haven't watched them all, but there are a couple that I could consider 'favourites'.
Let's see...This Side of Paradise, Where Silence Has Lease (I remember I got really freaked out the first time I saw this episode), and the VOY one where the ship is going through a nebula and the whole crew has to be put to sleep and the only people onboard are seven and the doctor. I haven't really watched many episodes of Enterprise or DS9...
Oh! You can't forget the final episode of TNG! That was epic, really it was.
...and all the episodes with Q in them!
Ah...there's just too many of them.

Mine would have to be "Yesterday's Enterprise" or "In a Mirror, Darkly". I know Enterprise wasn't as popular as the other series, but that episode was awesome.
I would have to agree with this also.

Original Series: Amok Time, it doesn't get any better with Spock Vs. Kirk
Voyager: I thought Life Line was pretty darn hilarious with the Doctor on it.

Im gonna have to say first for TNG, i personally liked when picard got kidnapped and turned into Locutis and in Voyager i would have to say either the one with the super borg droid or the one with seven of nine dying and Icheb and the Doctor and capt jayneway deciding what to do. Those are the ones i liked.

"All Good Things..." The last episode of the last season of ST:TNG, is the greatest episode out of all of all the STAR TREK shows out there, imho. Actually, it's also better than most of the ST movies.
Best Episode of Star Trek across all series for me is:
TOS - The Corbomite Manuever
It was the first 'regular' episode of the TV series filmed after the two pilots; but the ninth one aired because of the time it took to complete the optical effects. Still I love it because it really captures the essence of what the series was about, and gave a good introduction of the 3 lead characters and had some really good dramatic moments. The production staff really did a good job setting up that this was a ship WAY out in deep space - far from any help of the 'known galaxy'. I really enjoy the fact that it was an arguement with McCoy that gave Kirk the idea of 'the bluff'; and how it was played out.
TOS for me will always be the series where 'Star Trek' (in all it's forms) was the best. Except for DS9; I always felt the 24th century series were too PC and watered down for my taste.

Voyager = Final Episode
TNG = Inner Light, Yesterdays Enterprise, All Good Things

Ohh!! My favorite episode is from star trek voyager. The name of the episode escapes me at the moment, but I remember it perfectly. It was the episode where Harry and Chakotay survive the slip stream drive, but voyager is toss out and the crew dies. Then Harry and Chakotay spend their time trying to undo the past. :D

I have a couple but can't remember the titles.
The first is the one where the next generation lot got caught in a time loop and the ship was destoyed. Each time they looped they remembered a little more of the previous one.
The second is the voyager ep where they got trapped in the atmosphere of a planet and could only escape after the inhabitants developed the technology to move them.
Both excellent eps. :D

My favorite would be "The City on the Edge of Forever". Very well done and written by Harlan Ellison. I read some description of alternate drafts in "the Trouble with Tribbles" book that David Gerrold wrote and they would have been cool to see but this one is good the way it is.
#2 would be Norman Spinrad's "The Doomsday Machine"
Amazing how TOS was able to get some of the great SciFi writers of its day Larry Niven and Robert Bloch also come to mind to write for it and the cartoon spin off.
Voyager Scorpion episodes (Specis 8472). Just the sheer thrill of seeing a cube poop in its pants was breathtaking.

For story - The Inner Light from TNG... and The Visitor (I think) from DS9
For action - The TNG episode where Romulans and Enterprise are stuck in time with the warp core breach, also Parallels from TNG, and Sacrifice of Angels from DS9
I seriously liked the entire third season of Enterprise though, the whole Xindi plot was awesome
