The new Spock will be great. I love that guy. He plays Sylar on Heroes. Also, the woman playing Uhura is extremely hawt! The rest of the crew is kinda up in the air to me at this point.

Well I hope they do justice for it, and I hope they are smart about the actors/actresses and sign them to 3 movie deals, so if it is a success, we wont get 3 different Spocks in the next 3 movies that come out. If there are 3, but I am betting there will be more, as Star Trek is just as big as * I know i should say it* Star Wars.

I honestly don't like the idea of recasting the original characters but I am keeping an open mind.
I personally dont want to see Trek canon messed around with, so I hope JJ respects the franchise with this new movie.

Many of us would like to see the original cast but that's unlikely now. Some of the original cast might agree to do more Star trek but i doubt most would. And besides, having the original cast would be pointless without scottie :( On a lighter note... i too am looking forward to this new movie, i have a good feeling about it

Sorry I dont mean the film should have the original cast all back as themselves. I mean I don't like the original characters being recasted. I wouldn't mind seeing this film have the new actors but playing new roles in a revamped fresh classic Star Trek story.

The move will totally suck, plot's stupid, they're shoving to much in at one time, CGI may be nice, bjut it'll suck bad.

however, even though it will totally suck, it will be a box office hit, as the zombies will go see it because it has the words "Star Trek" in title, thus leading to an eve more sucky sequal and probaly an even worse new TV series.

Ah no, but i will probably wait till it goes to On Demand on cable, since I won't spend $10-15 to watch a crappy movie in a theater.

SO I'm not the only one who went to see Cloverfield just to see the Star Trek Trailer, LOL ::eek: But, IMO Cloverfield was pretty decent, so me and my wife stayed for it. I just wish the Trailer had revealed at least a few juicy nuggets about the core plot; instead of the 30 sec clip of a man welding something on to the side of the ship.

The trailer for the new Trek movie looked pretty good. I can't wait to see it, especially with Abrams directing it.

I expect this Star Trek Movie to revitalize the franchise just like the new Hulk, Superman and Batman style movies of late have done. I am looking forward to seeing the prequil and I expect to see the proper nods to the old and newer series of Star Trek. I am going to be one of those people who will need to see it on opening night. Hell, prior to that I may even do the original episode marathon. We shall see.

Yeah me either....I don't know why but re-casting new people into old roles just never sits right with me. Don't get me wrong though, I do keep an open mind and have every intention of seeing it :D

My only fear is, the Star Wars prequels disappointed me greatly, and I'm a HUGE fan :P Star Trek shares that spotlight too...and I'd hate to get disappointed again :(

Well we'll see.

I think Abrahms knows what he is doing and things look promising as far as I'm concerned. The Movie will me a success I'm sure.

The story, the actors will know to impress and the SFX will be top notch anyway.

Can't wait until 2009.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. I am interested to see how the new movie turns out, but I have a feeling it won't be the same as the classic show. Plus I'm not too sure about some of the new cast. I'm not too sure about Zachary Quinto as Spock, I mean he can pull off the Spock look, but I don't know if he can play Spock quite like Nimoy. And John Cho as Sulu, I'm sorry but every time I see him I'm going to think of Harold and Kumar.

I don't understand why Star Trek has to follow the Star Wars model of prequels. I don't mind Taking a fresh look at the franchise but why not after nemesis with a new crew. Recasting the original series is only going to create more headaches for the fans and the writers and honestly remove a lot of the suspense from the film. I don't think we have to worry about the Enterprise blowing up or earth being destroyed, since I've seen 30 years of stories about what follows. I would have thought that the execs at Paramount might have learned a lesson or two after the beating they took from enterprise but apparently not.

I have no doubt that this will be a very good film. It will be well acted and well written, but what a waste of talent when they could have just as easily told a similarly good story after nemesis with a new crew. (Spoiler) Why do we have to tell another time travel story? Star trek IV, Generations, and First Contact all have already used this story element. I've seen it. The whole Idea is to give us something new. And I guess Paramount's idea of something new is a story about character's who's fate we already know, using a theme we've already seen in three other Star Trek films. Lame.(end spoilers)

That being said I love Star Trek and of course I'll go see it, I just wish they were not wasting this opportunity to do something new.

I'm a TOS fan, so I'll definitely see it, but I have to admit I'm feeling underwhelmed right now. I think it would be different if there weren't so tight a lid being kept on the production. I don't need spoilers, but without little glimpses into what J.J. and company are doing, it's a lot harder to get excited over this.

I know J.J. Abrams has said it's not the case, but the more hushed they stay about the film, the more certain I get that William Shatner's going to be in it in some capacity.

That'd be as good as having Chuck Norris in Dodgeball

When I went to see Cloverfield, I was expecting a dumb and almost suspensful movie that'd be entertaining with a fair amount of running around New York and the destruction there of. This is what I recieved. In contrast, when I go see a Star Trek movie, I expect to see a solid sci-fi movie whose plot makes me think while holding me captive for a good two hours. I don't believe JJ Abrahms can do this.

Recently, I got weaseled into watching the whole series of Alias (another JJ production in case you don't know) and I thought it was the best comedy ABC has ever aired. As such, I'm expecting this movie to be the funniest one yet!

As for actors no one has mentioned that the guy from Shawn of the Dead/Hot Fuzz is Scotty (for the life of my I can't recall his name)!

Anything is possible. I once saw an arrow go throw a balloon and balloon, stuck on the arrow stayed inflated, so maybe, just maybe... JJ can pull it off.

I'm thinking the fact that at least 2 known comedians are in the cast and the work JJ's done already has pretty much been fluff and laugh design, sums up the flow of the movie very well.

it's going to be a slap in the face to Trek fans everywhere, but as i said, the zombies won't care.

Fluff and Laugh design? Apparently I don't know the meaning of that term, because I don't think that fits with most of his recent work at all.

Fluff: fill it full of very young very handsome/beautiful actors/actresses that have no talent and there's no solid storyline. just a lot of eye candy and drivel.

the laugh part is to put token attempts at humor throughout the "show/Movie" that's nto really funny to divert the viewers from the lack of a solid storyline, course the eye candy should have taken care of that already.

pretty much sums up every show and movie he's ever done, until someone else comes in and cleans them up that is.

I'm really looking forward to this... I have great expectations for this film... I only hope the new cast can deliver. Hopefully without all the comedy/tongue and cheek humor, I’d like to see a more serious film.

I agree with Kieryk about the Voyager movie, but I think it should be placed while they're still in the Delta Quadrant.
Personally I think it was a mistake to make a TOS movie, but that's just me...

I don't think that really describes Lost at all....
