Bridge Commander is the that sticks out to me at the top of the tree and I think the Elite Force series has to be up there as some of the best. Personally I also loved Star Trek Armada 2.

I don't like Star Trek New Worls, because the controls was not the best.

Legacy was pretty mediocre. There were a lot of flaws with it.

- Elite Force
- Bridge Commander

The best Games were Star Trek Elite Force and Star Trek Elite Force 2.
I have to agree with that, those games are my favourites too. Great story and gameplay, plus the ships and characters with some original voices = awsome. :D
But I also liked Bridge Commander, Away Team, DS9: The Fallen (walking around DS9, talking to or playing as Kira and the others... dream come true :D) and Legacy too. True, Legacy was only mediocre but it still had all the captains with original voices and a good story. I wish the devs had a couple more weeks to really finish the game, it could've been so much more.

To be quite honest, I didn't really care for any of the Bethesda Star Trek games. A lot of wasted opportunity there. :(
Please, Cryptic, make STO the best Trek game ever!

Best for me would have to be Armada 2. Just so much fun to play, sending god knows how many Soverign Class Starships into the heart of a Borg Base was awesome. Next up is Elite Force, although I never completed it and I didn't really care for the Insectoid Aliens that much it was still great.
Worst that I've played is Legacy, I just didn't enjoy it at all. It was hampered by an awful control system and saving system.

The best games, for me at least, were:
1. Elite Force (Supplemented with RPG-X mod)
2. Birth of the Federation
3. Starship Creator (When it actually worked, and the system was resource-independant)
My worst games:
1. Hidden Evil
2. Away Team
3. Elite Force II

-Elite Force
-Bridge Commander (Better with mods, but a good game by itself)
-Elite Force 2
-Armada 2
-Conquest
-Starfleet Command (all of them)
Bad
-Away Team (The cameras.... oh my the cameras....)
-New Worlds
-Legacy

Best Games
EF 1 & 2
Armada 2 - If anyone still plays this check this mod out http://www.fleetops.net/
Starfleet Command 3
Starfleet Academy & Klingon Academy - I want a remake of those plz! My x52 is lonely.
Ok games
Bridge Commander - ships awesome looking but the people looked like an after thought
Away Team - for being 2d it was ok
Worst Games
Legacy - Bethesda really let me down with this one by giving it to maddoc they made armada 2 which wasn't bad but I think they sold it to them like this "we have and engine (armada 2) and the ships are and planets are all ready done" I am glad they went under cause Armada 2 was there last good game.
New Worlds - really I have no idea how this one got out the gate
Starship Creator 1 & 2 - really 4 things to change and it's diff give me a break
Dominion Wars - were not gonna go there
Games not played
Anything on the NES
25th Anniversery
Vulcan Logic
and what every else I didn't list

Elite Force 1&2
Armada 1 (Didn't care for 2)
Bridge Commander (The modding community made it so great)
Away Team (Fun for what it was)
Starfleet Command 3 (Online play was fun while it lasted)
Not So Much
Hidden Evil (What? Seriously...what?)
DS9 The Fallen (See above)
Legacy (Bethesda, what are you doing?)
I just realized I own about every Star Trek game ever made... I dunno if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

My favorites:
1. ST:TNG - A Final Unity
2. Starfleet Academy
3. Star Trek: 25th Aniversary
4. Star Trek: Judgement Rites
The TOS adventure games were exciting and fun and I was thrilled when I finally beat them. "Unity," though, gets the prize; it was one of those rare games I played where I was sad when it was over.
The only one I regret buying:
Star Trek: Legacy.

Best
SFC I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Starfleet_Command) and SFC II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Starfleet_Command_II:_Empires_at_War). SFC was the first PC game I owned and I loved it.
Worst
Star Trek: New Worlds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_New_Worlds), the next PC game I bought and the first I returned. Buggy thing wouldn't even run. Luckily my local EB was really cool and let me trade it in for Icewind Dale.

Best: Star Trek: 25th Aniversary (nothing better caputred the original TV Series in game format)
2nd Best: Birth of the Federation (not a bad RTS for its time)
The rest are all battle simulations. whilst fun - quite one dimensional.
Worst of that lot: Legacy (why the heck did they release that?)

My favourite quickly became Bridge Commander (KM Mod) after my friend introduced it to me, although his constant spawning of borg cubes when playing over LAN became irritating after a LOT of deaths.
The Armada games i also really enjoyed, although the storyline of the first was WAAAAY better than the 2nd, it was also really fun over the net, beating players who tried to spam with you tactical fusion cubes.
Legacy has to be the worst, although i did play it all the way through on 360, you could definately tell it was a rushed game, it had much more potential.

I can't believe that I forgot to mention Birth of the Federation as one of the best games! It would be listed right after the Armada series.
I've noticed some people didn't like Star Trek: Away Team. I disagree. I grant you it's not one of the best but it's certainly not the worst either. Away Team was a fun game that I continue to play.

You can still get both of them through private sellers on Amazon.com. A lot of the "private sellers" are actually businesses that sell through Amazon Marketplace. The prices are very good and you have a wide selection and the option to get it "new" or "used." If you're interested in the Elite Force series (best Star Trek game series of all time, imo) I'd check Amazon out. Just search for "Star Trek: Elite Force" and you'll find them.
What makes the Elite Force series so good is actually several factors:
1: It's a first-person shooter
2: You take on the role of Ens. Alexander Munro, a member of an elite security team called the "Hazard Team." (Think the Starfleet version of a SWAT team.)
3: As a result the game focuses on the security/Hazard team. Something that Star Trek has rarely done without killing the redshirt who talked.

Too right! BoTF and just about every other Microprose game was great. Is it just impossible to keep the same game play and update the sound and graphics? Kind of like what they have done with the remastered TOS.

My favorite:
- Quark's Holodeck Adventures: Love in Space, with Dr. Crusher, Hoshi, Seven of Nine, Kira, Ezri, Jadzia, And That Chick Who Was Hassling Picard Pretending To Be A Returning Goddess
My least favorite:
- Quark's Holodeck Adventures: Klingon Prison Planet Rura Penthe, where Klingon and other prisoners swap you around making you be their (some Klingon word I don't understand.)
No that one wasn't very fun at all. :(

Anybody remember the Trek-like game that was out for the PET computer in 1980?
I forget its name. But play that and all Trek games that follow are a masterpiece of sorts.
The 25th Anniversary game did such a fine job of capturing some of the humor of the original series that i have to vote for that. Otherwise I was a big fan of the Starfleet Command series.

That would be Space Trek probably,
A clone of the Battleship esque Star Trek game that was around on all the personal computers since the 70s - I actually played the first one (Star Trek) on a DASD terminal (no monitor- it was a tractor feed printout) conected to the school's downtown mainframe in the late 70s.
Did you have the PET with the teeny tiny keys :p ? I thought those were sooo cool... I actually got a 48K Apple II instead
I noticed you have Sinclair in your name.... That Space Trek game you are mentioning was also available for the Timex Sinclair 1000 during that same Era, and if my wife didn't sell it on EBay, i just remembered- I still have one and I have Space Trek for it....

When you get a copy PM me or sign up on our forums.
There is still goings on in the EF2 community.
You will want to run it patched 1.1 version - I will be hosting and training

Our MP servers will not be visable before you patch. Also there are some improvements to gameplay.
Don't use the Autoupdate thing just go on effiles.com and get the official 1.1 patch (not 1.2 or anything else) There is a new Coop version to by Hazzard Modding, but it's installed as a different version. I always copy my original installed folder and use patches on the copy. We sometimes run a noob server for the unpatched people coming in you will only see that if you are on 1.0
there is tons of great maps. You don't need the disk for MP once installed so you can install it on more than one MP machine in your circle :) You will need the disk to Host. I think there's a fix for that, but I don't run that kind of stuff, even if the title is abandoned.

My favorite hands down has always been :
Elite Force,
Followed By Armada 1,
neither squel quite satisfied me as much.
EF2 had awesome an SP but the multiplayer never got the proper love it needed I'm Afraid.
And I thought they tweaked the gameplay around too much for Armamda 2, I liked that you didn't have to have 50 sovvies just to beat someone in the first game but that may just be personal taste *shrug*
In the end I'm hoping that Startrek Online will be to Cryptic as EF was to Raven, first and foremost a well made title, that honors the subject material in a delicate and effective way so as to satisfy the hardcores and softcores alike :).
And no. I'm not biased. lol. :P

I think it's safe to say that Bridge Commander was the best game, because it brought out the most in modders. We took a game that had poor models, and created some of the most gorgeous works I have ever seen. And even though the game is 7 years old now, the modding is still going strong. Even Legacy can't touch what Bridge Commander has.
Legacy got the shaft from Mad-Doc, and I'm sorry for it. The game had the potential to be awesome, with an awesome story. Mad-Doc just didn't care enough to do a proper job. I don't think it'll last for long.
the SFC and Armada series were pretty good. As was Birth of the Federation, Hidden Evil, and Starfleet Academy.
I liked both EF titles too, and there have been a lot of great mods released for both of these games.
Away Team was okay, but nothing special.

Well depends on how you're ranking them. Star Trek games vs All Others haven't fared very well, and for the most part, dare I say it? Sucked. Sucked worse than the new Smash Mouth albums.
Star Wars, Aliens, X-men, etc have all enjoyed some killer games, whereas Star Trek has not. Trek has not been translated to game form with any startling degree of success. There are many probable causes for this, but I think to jump to developers not trying is to not deal with the real issues with translating the Star Trek universe from one medium (Movies, TV) to another medium (in this case games): The fact that the Star Trek universe, just doesn't peg well in any premade hole. I think the reasons for this are several-fold.
First, Star Trek has always been a cooperative effort. As much as Kirk was the focus of the original series, he couldn't do everything himself. And as the series progressed through Picard, Sisko, et al. the focus was pulled back to include more and more of the periphery characters. Most games focus on one person (You are Master Chief/Mario/Link) and you become that person. However, in a "proper" translation to any single-player game form this doesn't jive with what we see in the shows and movies. Voyager was no more about Janeway than my car is about a steering wheel.
Secondly, Star Trek doesn't have a really well defined bad guy. There is no killer alien, super villain, or "Dark Side" to deal with, who can be counted on to be bad on a consistent basis. While Romulans can be bad, the Klingons were kinda bad, and the Borg can be counted on the be a pain, they aren't "always evil". In fact some of them can turn around and be helpful (albeit grudgingly) in a pinch. Also, to complicate the matter you always have the Federation going around, doing its darndest to be friends with everybody. A good combat system this does not make.
While I could go on forever (as this wall of text attests) I think it all boils down to: Star Trek doesn't translate into any game formula thus far conceived, and not because the developers are lazy, stupid, or incompetent. Its hard to peg Star Trek correctly because you can't drop it into a licensed engine, add the token bad guy and spend the rest of your time making it look pretty. With creating Star Trek games, and STO in particular playing the same songs with new lyrics isn't going to make a new album. You hear that Smash Mouth? It's not a new album.

Sorry, I just can't stand that kind of space sim combat (I didn't really like it Starfleet Academy either). The UI and everything just didn't work for me. Klingon Academy reminded me of how they implemented space combat in Star Wars Galaxies...slow, tedious, and horrible to control with a keyboard.

Try Amazon.com or eBay. You're sure to find it there.
To be honest, I think Legacy is by far the worst game ever made. Considering that it's a glorified version of Armada 2, Mad-Doc cut all the corners possible when they made this game. What's worse, the game was originally built for the 360, and ported over to the PC. Mad-Doc didn't even bother to modify the inputs properly, so you have a control system that's so shotty, it makes completing missions an obstacle course. Furthermore, the scaling was all wrong. You had NX Class starships the size of starbases and planets! I MEAN c'mon! Hell, even one of the hints still suggests using 360 controls! And the two patches they released? They fix NOTHING. All they do is add a bit of code to make the game look "finished". Why Bethesda hasn't released a 1.3 patch is beyond me...
But as for "pegging" Star Trek into a video game, I don't think it's as difficult as you suggest. The problem lies with the fact that, most people who buy games, buy them based on their genre, not their title. Gamers tend to buy games that are either simulation, strategy, Role Playing, or some combination of any of the known genres. Star Trek primarily falls into the "Simulation, Strategy, Action/Adventure" genre. Now, when you look at Star Trek: The 25th Anniversary and its sequel Star Trek: Judgment Rites, you had two games, based in the TOS era, that fit with the Star Trek Universe. Why? Because both games had missions that not only had combat in it, but in fact promoted diplomatic solutions to all problems, made the player think about how to advance the story, etc. It fit with what Star Trek: The Original Series stood for. The same goes for Star Trek: The Next Generation - A Final Unity. These three games applied what was known in Star Trek, and created games that challenged players intellectually, while providing the combat aspect (albeit in a limited fashion).
However, since the onset of primarily 3D games, gamers have fallen into the rut of prefering games that are quick, have lots of action in it, and have an overall villian that must be vanquished, or all shall perish. It is these "changes" that prevent Star Trek's latest games from being successful, because it forces game developers to stray from the accept universe of Star Trek, and add in elements that have never been seen, nor talked about, in any Star Trek series. And that will be the primary problem with STO.
As it was stated before, Cryptic will NOT be garnering Star Trek fans only. They will be aiming for the MMO community at large, which means bringing in players who've never watched Star Trek before, never played a Star Trek game before, have NO prior knowledge of the genre, and keeping them interested on a regular basis. Therefore, Cryptic will more than likely, take a primarily non-canon approach to the game, in order to sell more copies. If that ends up alienating the more hardcore Star Trek fans, they're fine with that. They'd rather lose a couple hundred dollars in revenue from 30 people not choosing to buy the game because of lack of continuity, as opposed to losing thousands of dollars a week, because only several hundred Star Trek fans bought the game, and play the game frequently, or in frequently, depending on their RL situations.
Personally, I hate this myself, as it means militaristic uniforms like that of the Hazard Team from Elite Force, but what can I do?

favourites: armada, armada 2, sfc 3
least favourite: legacy
Armada was fun to play when i was a kid. blowing stuff up yay. that and the ai in the 1st wasnt terrible. Armada 2 was a bit of a dissapointment. I recently managed to re install it and it isnt as fun as it used to be. However, theres some good mods out for it that makes it enjoyable again. Starfleet Command 3 was definently one of the best. I loved the way it was setup. It was dissapointing though when my game disc stopped working.
Legacy is a fine example of when gaming companies lose sight of what makes a game fun. They focused way too much on graphics and too little on gameplay. this basically destroyed the pc version to the point that mods had to be made to improve it flawed design. The 360 version somehow survived without serious injury. However, the 360 version had a lack of gameplay (not enough game options). This made it really easy to beat.
I also tried Elite force 2. problem is my old computer was soo old it went into extreme lag right when the mission started.

My fave is Klingon Academy. I like Armada the least, but I only played the demo so that may be a little unfair. Least fave that I played the full version of is Legacy.
