I always liked to look through spaceship lists of the different classes and imagined the ships with the names on it in space. :)
and I always liked to think of ships, name them, choose the class, invented a crew in my mind and so on :)
so what is your favourite ship class/name combination?
mine is USS Lexington Excelsior-Class NCC-14427

hmm i gotta go with... USS Nash.
The USS Nash (NCC-2010-5) was a Federation starship of the Sydney-class of the 24th century. It made several journeys to Deep Space 9 in the 2370s.
The Nash transported Dr. Julian Bashir and Trill initiate Arjin from Starbase 41 to DS9 in 2370. (DS9: "Playing God")
In 2372, Keiko and Molly O'Brien were transported from Bajor to DS9 by the Nash. (DS9: "Accession")
Two agents of the Department of Temporal Investigations, Dulmur and Lucsly, arrived on DS9 via the Nash in 2373. (DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations")
In 2375, the Nash transported Jack, Lauren, Sarina and Patrick from Deep Space 9.

My favorite name is, IKS Zeven Provinciën.
and evry1 saying that is an alien name........ GRRRRRRRRRRRRR
The ship of choice would be a combo between a Defiant class, a Norexan/Valdore warbird and a K'Vort class, with a nice Fluytschip/Retourschip rear castle.
And at the front hull I would paint the Dutch naval Jack, the VOC and the maquis flag.
Also dont say I am discriminating, because I use the VOC. Those that think so should brush up there History lessons!!!!!!

The Endeavour:
(From Memory Alpha)
The USS Endeavour (NCC-71805) was a Federation starship that was in service during the late 24th century.
In 2368 the Endeavour was assigned to the Starfleet blockade force at the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. It was the last ship to clear the drydock prior to the departure of the fleet from Starbase 234. During the initial deployment of the tachyon detection grid, the Endeavour was linked with the USS Ajax, USS Hood, USS Tian An Men and USS Enterprise-D. Later that year, the ship was assigned to a patrol circuit in the Cleon system.
In 2373, the Endeavour faced the Borg at the Battle of Sector 001.

USS Bonaventure- no class listed in Memory Alpha, but in most-non- canon TAS it was a pre constitution class- a amalgam between Olympic- and Constitution- class. Quote from Scotty "One of the first ships with warp drive..."
See TAS Episode "The Time Trap" - a very interessting episode- there the Enterprise docks on a Klingon D7- Cruiser for their escape.

The Endeavour for me as well. Amusingly enough based on that memory alpha description I came up with a "dedication plaque" motto for the Endeavour.
"Where the Enterprise led, the Endeavour followed. Through the hollows of space and hell."
I also enjoy the Romulan shipname "Ra'kholh" which is Rihannsu for "Avenger."

The USS Defiant (NX-74205). It was an awsome "little" ship. :D
And because I'm Hungarian I've got to say the USS Budapest (NCC-64923), Norway-class starship too.

I hope the STO community throws some non-English NPC ship names in there. I'm American, but I wanna see a more diverse list on names and ships than just English. Give me that sense of universal feel and appeal!!

Some of Hornblower's ships would be cool( http://www.scaryfangirl.com/ships.htm ref) -
Justinian
Indefatigable
Retribution
Hotspur
Atropos
Witch of Endor
Nonsuch
Some German ships names I liked when playing "Bismark" wargame -
Graf Spee
Tirpitz
Scharnhorst
Gneisnau (I always pronounce the name as "nice now". Strange sounding name for a battleship. Kind of like the martians in "Mars Attacks" using the translation device - "Don't run we are your friends!" while attacking)
Some U.S. ship names that sound pretty good to me:
Ranger
Essex
Yorktown
Saratoga
Lexington

Mine would have to be Enterprise.
"These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise."
"There's another ship coming in. It's the Enterprise."
That pretty much sums up why, the Enterprise is iconic and represents hope for a better future where humanity explores the stars, and even in the worst of times if the Enterprise is there it means that there is still hope and that things will turn out all right.

U.S.S. Excalibur (since Enterprise is already used and is of course my first choice)
(from Memory-Alpha)
The USS Excalibur (NCC-26517) was an Ambassador-class starship in service in the 2360s.
The Excalibur survived an attack by the Borg during a night shift sometime prior to 2368. Several members of the crew, including Marika Wilkarah, were assimilated in the encounter. (VOY: "Survival Instinct")
In 2368, the Excalibur was undergoing a major refit and repair at Starbase 234. It was commandeered by Captain Jean-Luc Picard to serve in a Starfleet blockade of the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. During that mission, it was commanded by Commander William Riker, with Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge as first officer since the Excalibur's crew had been reassigned due to the extent of the refit. (TNG: "Redemption II")

I like time travel episodes or (the theories of) time travel in general so I'd say Relativity (there is no better name for those kind of ships).

I cant belive no one suggested this one.
HMS Bounty was the name given to the Klingon Bird-of-Prey commandeered by James T. Kirk in 2285. It was given the moniker by Leonard McCoy in a fit of historical irony, as the original Bounty, an Earth seagoing starship, had been taken over by mutineers - a situation similar to that the former USS Enterprise crewmembers found themselves in. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
But I do like USS Excelsior (NCC-2000)
Helmsman Lojur "Sir, she will fly apart"
Captain Sulu "Well fly her apart then"

In our fleet, we were asked to choose shipnames based upon composers. I think one should be the U.S.S. Goldsmith, after the late composer Jerry Goldsmith, who was a great friend of the StarTrek franchise.
