View Full Version : Which ship do you want?

Assuming you'll be able to captain a ship in this game. Which ship from any series or film would you captain
Personally I would go for the Defiant simply cause it kicks arse and is the coolest looking ship out there.

Romulan Warbird
Promethious Class
Defiant Class
Soverign Class
Vor'Cha Class Kilingon Attack crusier.

Im a fan of the little smaller ones so... Intrepid or Defiant

In the star trek universe normal defiants are pretty terrible though, at least in the deep space 9 timeline, they had so many problems and the defiant used by the crew of ds9 had alot of upgrades the others didnt get, like the collaberative cloaking device and etc... That being said though, they do have an amazingly unique style to them, I just can't help but wonder how they're going to balance the ship combat and stuff :)
I'll probably aim for a prometheus class if they implement it (although i doubt they will as it was a concept ship that only appeared in 1 episode) otherwise a sovereign class or possibly the akira class cos they're so damn nice to look at :P

Nebula class. "Galaxy light", customizable with mission pods - a great all-around vessel.

Second one would be a Sovereign class.

I´m a fan of movie Constitution too, but don´t think they´ll include her in the game, because timeline is somewhere after Picard ;)
As a matter of my fleet I want to have Intrepid- and Prometheus- Class.
As fan of old- fashioned TNG- Era- Ships I wish they develope Excelsior-, Miranda- and Centaur- Class ships.

07-28-2008, 03:15 AM
intrepid, for sure. i mean C'MON! how many star ships have neat folding warp nacelles!?
that or an akira, it looks nice...
but overall i think i'll have to wait to find out in-game. But it'll need to be a tank for my butt-headed gameplay style =.=

I'd say klingon Bird of Prey, or federation Defiant. Small but efficent ships

Defiant or Nova class would be my other choices..

I'd like the Sovereign class. But i think you will probably start in a smaller ship and earn bigger ones as you go. So just make sure my warp-sled replicates a decent coffee.

either excelsior, olympic, or challenger http://www.trekmania.net/the_fleet/utopia/other_classes.htm
the freedom class would be nice, but it only has 1 nacelle, which is impossible :p
Oh, I'd definately want to captain a defiant class....
But that said, I'd rather follow the Chief of Operations path. Yay for engineers!

I prefer the Nova or the Defaint class.
And i hope the will be little fighters like the Peregrine or the Delta Flyer.
I now, there not many Dog Fights in Star Trek, but flying in a fighter formation can be funny.

07-28-2008, 04:52 AM
Put me down for an Intrepid-class. Of all the TNG-era ships, I always felt it was the closest in spirit to the TOS Constitutions - a sleek, swift cruiser, built for exploration but packing a punch.
But failing that, I'll happily take a Sovereign and monster the hell out of smaller ships. :D

07-28-2008, 04:58 AM
I love the look of the old D7 battlecruisers so that would be my 1st choice (what can I say, I like that "classic" look lol). After that I'd go with either an Akira, a Vor'cha or a Defiant depending on what's available :)

Klingon Bird of Prey. Small, maneuverable and powerful for it's size. Add The cloaking device from The Undiscovered Country's 'Bird' and you're set.

A Defiant class hull, but with a short neck, where a D'Deridex "head" is attached too. Up on the head the same thingy as the Negh'Var uses above its head. From the bottom of the nacelles K'Vort like wings going upwards (with a Scimitar look mixed threw it, and some obvious Torpedo launchers), some massive Disrupter cannons attached to the ends, also at the ends some Norexan/Valdore class nacelles (giving it 4 nacelles with those). And at the rear, a Fluytschip/Retourschip (V.O.C. sailing ship design) rear castle.

For a smaller ship, perhaps a Nova, Defiant, or Intrepid, though I think just about any of them would be fun.

I don't really know why, but there was just something about the USS Rhode Island that really drew me in. I never even really liked the USS Equinox (I'm pretty sure that was the ship of similar design in early VGR...perhaps Nova Class?). I would love to have my own Rhode Island, and I hope that I do. If the Lunar Class (pretty sure that was the class of Riker's Titan) is in the game however, I may just have to choose that one because A) I love Riker and B) That was a beautifully designed ship, well done whoever won that contest. Sorry about all the uncertainty over my Trek knowledge, I am a little rusty as Trek has been limping towards complete erasure in the world today. I plan on rewatching the series' soon.

I've been wondering when someone would finally get around to saying Galaxy class
Found this (http://www.dan-dare.org/FreeFun/Images/CartoonsMoviesTV/StarTrekWallpaper3800.jpg) which is a pretty good show of DS9 era ships.
I forgot about the Prometheus that was an awesome ship

If I *really* had any choice it would be the Glorious Heritage class ;)
But, for what's likely to be in the game - I'd pick the Luna class, given any amount of exploration at all. Otherwise, one of the combat ships if that's the focus.

By the way.... The Galaxy Class is not going to be open to the ships you can get, Galaxy Classes will serve as HUBS or station places, where wounded ships and players can go to resupply, and just meet other players. I have read if you are in a CAT AND MOUSE situation and you are the MOUSE then you can make a final stand (if you can make it) with the nearest Galaxy class.

speaking of the galaxy class, I AM SO UPSET BECAUSE OF IT!!!! to have one would be wonderful, but sadly they cannot. but if you think about it, it is a good thing that they arn't open to get. SERVERS WOULD BE FULL OF THEM. I think the way Cryptic is going to use them is pretty cool though.

Akira class. I'm a torpedoholic and it has 15 launchers. (at least in the creators imagination of it)
Technically, the Akira has 11 'launchers,' which would include the entire launching assembly. However, she has 45 torpedo tubes (1 mounted below the deflector and 1 mounted above the Deflector, both in positions similar to the Sovereign's forward photon and quantum torpedo launchers, respectively. 2 tubes on each side of the saucer, 3 forward tubes mounted under-slung on the dorsal pod, 16 tubes in a revolving disk launcher on the forward dorsal pod, and 20 tubes in a second revolving disk launcher in the aft dorsal pod), the capacity to launch a full salvo of 49 torpedoes, and effectively maintain a continuous stream of forward torpedo fire (until her torpedo stores are exhausted) through the two burst-fire-3 launchers above and below the deflector, the three single-fire launchers under-slung on the pod, and the revolver launcher (which can fire 4 tubes at a time before rotating a new set of 4 into place). She can also fire 4 sets of tubes aft at a time.
Now, that pod is probably swappable (et. al Nebula, Miranda, Danube, New Orleans), so the Akira wouldn't necessarily have that massive torpedo capacity all the time (almost 2.5 times the 20-torp-capacity of an original launch Galaxy (before any refit during or after the Dominion War), 1.8 times the pre-refit Soveriegn's total 9-torp photon and 9-torp quantum (27 photon-equivalent) capacity and the refit Sovereign's total 27-torp photon capacity, and 90% of the refit Sovereign's total 27-torp photon and 9-torp quantum (54 photon-equivalent) capacity), and would likely only be equipped with such a pod prior to a known major engagement, during wartime, or when patrolling a hostile border.

I'm more fond of the smaller ships, so something like a Runabout would be my preference (I really liked the Sacajawea class Perpetual designed, and I hope we get it or something like it). Nova class ship would be good too. Biggest I'd go is the Steamrunner class. I like its unconventional design.

The Norway is a Medium Cruiser, whereas the Intrepid class is a Light Cruiser. The Norway has superior firepower, shields and hull strength, though she's slower, and probably a little less maneuverable (she demonstrated impressive maneuverability in FC, though).

From what I've just read today about the "setting" of the game a short while after the NextGen movie/Post Voyager time-period, I am going to venture my guess along those lines. Since this will present a level of technology and design we as the audience have not seen (or perhaps only had short glimpses into...) we can really only make educated broad guesses. If you desire to helm an older style vessel... I'm sure you will be able to snag one. You can still acquire antique cars today. I am going with a more timely "Ship-of-the-Line" style vessel. I was hoping for a Romulan line to choose from, but it looks like from the media release that its prelim only Fed & Kling'n. So unless there is a Rom/Klgn hybrid...... I will go for a Federation style. So, a medium to heavy cruiser, crew of 400-550, heavy engines, less than a dozen heavy particle weapons, 4 to 5 projectile launchers, 3 to 5 auxiliary craft, 2 or 3 transporters. I would prefer durability/strength verses fancy "pinstipes" like seperability or atmospheric landing or Uber-doober TransFanfunctional Slipstream Trans-Warp Warp drive. Get me to the party on time, lemme do my little dance, and off into the wild black yonder... next mission on mind. In the end, it could all come down to engine and shield. It usually does in Trekdom. I WOULD like to pre-Name my newly parametered inaugural class vessel as CATALPA after the Irish rescue sailship which went all the way to Australia, rescued a bunch of compatriots, overcame further odds by going up against steam-powered British forces, and made her way to Int'l waters with the Stars and Stripes. Beautiful strategy, beautiful use of what's at hand, beautiful execution, and subtle balance between force and diplomacy to get the task at hand accomplished. Anyhoot. That's my hope.
Karsis

I just want one that won't blow up every time you hit a button. That might have been the problem with the Defiants in DS9.
I like the Enterprises. Classic and cool. Those ships are totally reliable like when Kirk had to blow his up b/c of the Klingons, she never had really blown to pieces until then. I also like how they aren't that big so I don't need a map just to find the bathroom.

At first, I thought I'd go for a Prometheus-class (as in my signature), but the more I think about it, I've always been found of the Akira class as well. Personally, I'd kinda like to see the Luna-class U.S.S. Titan.

To be honest, now that the big webcast has told us all we're each getting a ship, I don't care what type of craft the old boys at Starfleet Skunkworks hands me. It'll be 'MY' Starfleet Starship.
But if the Prophets are listening I'd really like to start out with something 'Oberth' like. :)

All of the ships are brilliant, my faourite kind are Nebula class, small and compact and kick arse,.
Erm... You do know that the Nebula is the second largest ship in the fleet, right? She's not as spread out as the Galaxy, but by volume, she's not much smaller.
The Sovereign Class is the ship I want! Nothing beats the Sovereign in either looks, speed, and especially not in pure strength.
Sovereign Class (as of Nemesis): 16 Phaser Arrays, 9 Torpedo Launchers; Photon and Quantum Torpedoes; Ablative Hull Armor; Regenerative Shields
"Peace, through superior firepower!"
-Automated salesman trying to sell the Echo Papa 603 (TNG: "The Arsenal of Freedom")
Sovereign:
1000 MT Photon torpedo launchers
2 forward burst-fire-4
1 forward single-fire
2 aft burst-fire-4
2 aft burst-fire 6
4 aft single-fire
Total launchers: 10
Total salvo all launchers: 27, 27,000 MT yield
3000 MT Quantum torpedo launchers
1 forward burst-fire-9 swivel launcher
Total salvo: 9 Quantums, 18,000 MT yield
Equivalent Photon salvo: 18
Total Equivalent Photon Salvo: 55
Phaser Arrays:
Big Dorsal Array: 339.505 meters long - 568 Type-XII emitters - 4,544 PW output
Big Ventral Array(2): 259.425 meters long - 432 Type-XII emitters - 3,456 PW output
Belly Array: 58.03 meters long - 97 Type-XII emitters - 776 PW output
Medium Dorsal Saucer Array(2): 51.718 meters long - 86 Type-XII emitters - 688 PW output
Smallest Dorsal Saucer Array(2): 20.02 meters long - 33 Type-XII emitters - 264 PW output
Aft Dorsal Saucer Array(2): 23.357 meters long - 39 Type-XII emitters - 312 PW output
Small Ventral Saucer Array(2): 40.04 meters long - 67 Type-XII emitters - 536 PW output
Pylon Array(4): 40.04 meters long - 67 Type-XII emitters - 536 PW output
Total Pre-Refit (no Pylon Arrays): 1104.96 meters of array - 1847 Type-XII emitters - 14,776 PW total output
Total Post-Refit (with Pylon Arrays): 1344.258 meters of array - 2247 Type-XII emitters - 17,976 PW total output
Shields:
26 450-PW Regenerative Shield Generators (13 generator pairs)
Total generator output: 11,700 PW
Actual Operating Output: 5,850 (1 generator per pair active, 1 operating on hot standby to take over when shield strain overwhelms active generator, effectively doubling bleed-through resistance and shield duration for fraction of energy cost)
Total Shield Reserves: 526,500 PJ
Ablative armor belts over critical systems (entire bridge superstructure, main impulse engines, nacelles, sections of engineering hull)
Unknown material armor belts over critical systems (dark hull sections over critical areas near main impulse engines, dorsal and ventral engineering section, core areas of nacelle pylons)
The Galaxy has bigger guns, phaser wise, even with Type-X emitters (those big arrays are GINORMOUS), though the total output of all emitters from all arrays is less. Refit to Type-XII emitters, the Galaxy's main saucer arrays (and the Nebula's arrays as well, since the Nebula has the 2nd and 4th largest arrays in the fleet, after the Galaxy's 1st and 3rd (both dorsal and ventral, respectively)) would pack a tremendous punch.
Assuming the Galaxy were refit to the new technology after or during the Dominion War (which would be logical, since she turned 10 years old the same year the Dominion War started, and would be due for a refit by the end of the war or shortly thereafter), she would actually be very much superior to the Sovereign in combat strength, though the Sovereign would still hold the advantage in speed.

I'd like a Utopia Class Prototype starship that I found in 1997 on a website. I printed it and still got the design in my files. It has four warp nacelles; two in the drive section and two on the saucer section. Has saucer separation system both sections can go to warp 9.9978... But, I’m not sure. I didn't check my papers...I'll have to re-read them. I go by memory. It has both Photons and Quantum torpedoes launchers and one Chronoton torpedoes launcher. It is a design similar to a Sovereign class developed exclusively to fight the Borg and could also be use to fight the rising Dominion threat. That ship is a War machine ingenious design. I kept it and it is written on paper. Not sure if the Dominion is on file for this ship. But, I know it was design to defend the Federation against the Borg.

I'd go with a Luna class deep space explorer, decent armaments, crew of 350, and it's the Constitution class of the late 24th/early 25th century. Besides, after seeing the ship finally in Sword of Damocles, I fell in love with it, compact, sleek and beautiful, everything a Federation starship should be.

I doubt we'll see Prometheus class ships, as the MV attack mode is likely too hard to put into the game, plus in ST lore ships like the Prometheus class and Sovereign class were fairly limited, due to the massive resource costs involved in building them. Maybe things have changed in the 30 years since Nemesis, but I think it would ruin the atmosphere if there were a bunch of Sovereign class ships floating around, seen as they were rare and spectacular sites in the universe. Personally, I want a Defiant class or maybe one of the new classes they seem to have developed, I saw a lot of new ship classes in the trailer. And with the Klingons as an enemy now, the restriction on Federation cloak tech should be gone with the abandonment of the Khitomer Accords. Which would be sweet. So yeah, Defiant or broke baby!

Well a work bee equip with quantum torpedoes and type x phasers LMAO joke:D
Excelsior class if I could be its Number 1 under Captain Hikaru Sulu ;)(oh I wish they made that series):(
BUT if I’m to be a captain then would have to be my own design star ship (I have drawings and started a model of it)
which is from the time of the game and uses same tech as a sovereign class and newer tech like from the Luna class, it’s a deep space exploration ship designed to be far away from federation space and has a huge hanger bay able to fit many shuttles and fighters (defense craft), medical and science facilities that would compare to the best space stations, and because of its distance away it would have trained troops
Also will be able to defend itself with its arsenal of weapons would also be used for diplomatic missions far from federation space
Brief description would be it has a saucer section similar to sovereign but with 2 secondary hulls 1 hull use as a hanger bay and has large cargo areas 2nd hull mainly crew quarters recreation and diplomatatic areas
The ship has 4 warp nessels similar to sovereign design which is used to extend the maximum warp distance at high warp and uses 2 warp cores each can work independent or be used together
Only a brief description but I have much more info and designs (on paper)

Agreed I like it because it has elements of the Akira class, Miranda class, and kinda has a Nova class feel to it.

I want a Klingon K'Tinga class, but if I wanted to survive I would need many upgrades.

I'm gonna have to go with a nova. As much firepower as a Galaxy and only 1/5 the size!

Nova is one of the weakest ships being used currently at this time, not even near the Galaxy Class firepower.

I'd take a sovereign personally.

I'd love to have a Galaxy to call my own.
Either that or a Sovereign or Luna-class

Saber
She is small, fast, and relatively tough for her size.

ATM I'd go for an Oslo-class ship. Looks nice and seems cusomizable.
