I like it for one because it is easy to use, which for a forum is of the highest importance. The layout and colors are great too; feels like home. I would like a "Delete Post" button though, since there seems to be a couple of misfiring double posts out there (my own included).

I love it! Cmdr. Daedelus got it already: these are the OFFICIAL forums!

I would love it if they used some fun board things from ST-O.net though, like badges and titles and such... *shrug* Or ST-O.net could be revived as well, hehe..

I like it. The color scheme is very cool and the pictures sure are purdy, hurr hurr.

It's certainly more colorful than Perpetual's former website, but the old one had a cool feel to it. It was metalic and simple, yet there always seemed like there was more underneath. It was a great promo page; too bad it didn't take off.

But then, colorful seems to be Cryptic's style (Ironic, considering their name). All the City games were flamboyant and colorful, and it looks as if STO is going to be made in the same fashion.

I like it a lot, but there seems to be an issue with the quick reply. That is propably the reason for doubleposts. When you press quick reply it will send you to reply window, and you will get a message that you can't post in 30 seconds. At first time I was confused and waited for the 30 sec and did that post, and there was my doublepost.

Hey guys, thanks for your encouraging words about the website. If you haven稚 met me yet, I知 Diamonds and I知 the website programmer at Cryptic Studios. Come launch time we were getting really hammered with all kinds of traffic. I知 glad the site is able to take it :) I値l let our graphic designer know about this thread, he did all of the design for the website. I知 sure he値l appreciate it.

So has anyone found the easter egg on the STO site yet? ;)

It feels more community oriented then perpetual's site. I feel more in the loop. I can tell you Perpetual was not very forthcoming letting the community know what was going on. We always felt in the dark. I hope you all are more open.

I can also compare to other game's sites. Age of Conan's official site is very good as is World of Warcrafts. They are both WEALTHS of information.

Much better offering than Perpetual ever gave us, fantastic job to everyone at Cryptic for getting it right from the word go, a proper, centralised community site is just what was necessary!

I dunno. I figure thats a little too "on the nose". Plus, I'd have to totally redo my color scheme. Plus, lots of other people will be doing it.

I just don't know. I may adopt a completely Borg personality for these forums if I get bored enough. If Cryptic would do the right thing and announce a playable Borg faction for anti federation PVP, I'd do it in a second.

You guys customize the Drupal CMS very well for all your current sites. Still don't know why you decided to go with Joomla for your main corporate site, but still good integration as well as the integration with the vBulletin forums. The design for this site is looking very good. Good job on the web work!

It looks good and the most important thing - it's readable. You don't get any problems with your eyes if you're spending a bit more time at this page :).

Though I didn't realize the corporate site was Joomla. I haven't worked with that CMS that much... Still a newbie to the whole web design thing. :p

Diamond,

On behalf of the Startrek Community we thank you for picking up this franchise and with an experienced MMO Studio we look forward to you vision of what STO will become. Iam pleased to see a Studio of such experience picking up this title and iam pleased as so many others are when it comes to the future of ST Gaming.

Yes! This website is definitely STO's best feature to date. My memory of the "old" startrekonline.com was a bunch of dry heres-what-we-did-to-our-terrain-texture-today news blogs.

Thank goodness for some competence on staff.

I have to agree. The site is straight forward and to the point. It's not overwhelming, and still there's plenty to see. It's easy on the eyes and easier to navigate.... Kudos!

It would be nice to see some statistics though, but over all... Great Presentation!!

I just hope that these forums won't get wiped when the game is launched. :(

Diamonds,

A couple of things.

1) Can we have RSS feeds for the dev trackers here and on the Champs Boards?

2) The RSS feed from the STO site is spitting out the correct content but it's labeled as the Champions Online feed.

3) Site looks great.

I love the forum theme, it looks and performs great. And the site feels solid. I can't wait to see how it grows, since all MMOs seem to go through about 3 or 4 site variations before and during launch.

The site looks beautiful. I think the most impressive thing I've noticed about the website is that it didn't crash when all those people first came on. It's a nerdy thing to notice, but I'm honestly impressed.

Diamonds, another issue for you:

When I check the STO main page without logging in, there are no errors; I can click over to the screenshots and see them.

If I log in, however, I get the following error at the top of the screen (inside the LCARS frame, to the right of the "Star Trek Online" comm-badge image): Embedded Gallery2 is not available or requested Gallery URL does not exist. Also, if I click over to the 'Screenshots' page, no screenshots are displayed.

It does this in both IE 7 (Version: 7.0.5730.13 64-bit edition) and Firefox 3 (Version 3.0.1). I updated from Firefox 2, where I had the same problem. Clearing the cache on either browser does nothing to resolve the problem.

Any more information you need? :)

Other than this minor issue, the site looks great!

(I'm having to rein in my inner geek to not explode in gushing fanboyism.) :D

Thanks for the good info. #2 is fixed. #1 I'm going to put on the 'todo' list. However, it might get scrubbed because the dev tracker, under the hood, is a fancy search query in the forums, very expensive to run. I'm first going to figure out what kind of load it would cause.

Cheers.

Hrm, how about a cached version that only updates the feed once an hour (or there about)?

Or you could in theory create a script to copy dev posts into a Drupal story and open the RSS feed but also include links to the forum topics in the post.

I'm glad that Cryptic snagged Star Trek, and i Look forward to seeing the gameplay on August 10th webcast. I do however expect to be chewing nails in anticipation of information, you all at Cryptic live up to your name well :p. On the upside to those just coming to the Cryptic sites, if they say something its like stone, but getting information from them can be like pulling teeth from an enraged T-rex with Caffine jitters ;).

The forums are great, site layout is nice too, I just wish they'd use ingame models for the Soveriegn on the front page. Is the banner from ingame? Just curious, or is it a composite image? I miss the PE logo, thought it was really sleek.
