Wow. Totally blown away by the new site. Looks completely awesome. Well done, Cryptic. After the initial surge of traffic, Startrekonline.com and crypticstudios.com seem to be handling the load pretty well!

The screenshots look wonderful! I haven't been this excited about Star Trek Online since Perpetual started trickling concept art to us back on StarTrek-Online.net.

This is a brilliant start, Cryptic! And I see VIDEO is coming in two weeks! *happy dance* BRING IT ON!

Yep this game is going to be done a lot sooner and maybe better than if PE still had this.

I was really excited when I started hearing the rumours that Cryptic had picked the game up after things with Perpetual went south. This studio has been non-stop impressing me lately so I can't wait to see what you guys do with the game. :D

I am looking forward to Cryptic doing a far superior job on this title than Perpetual ever had a chance of performing.

And hey, look, a forum for the game provided by the company making the game instead of a fan-run site! Things are indeed looking up.

Best of luck, Cryptic!

I too am very impressed by Cryptic so far. Just having this website and FORUM puts them far ahead of anything PE did for STO. Also they have already released almost as much stuff as PE did in 4 years of development. I'm also very much looking forward to the game play video we are getting on the 10th. That puts them lightyears ahead of anything PE did in the same amount of time. Yes it's good to see STO in the hands of actual professional developers that we know will get the job done without all the drama that PE had.

Bren

P.S. It's also nice to have company representatives on this site that can talk to us about the game without constantly having to pull their foot out of their mouths like another developer we all know who will remain nameless. *Cough* Stinnett *Cough*

oh let's not get into that arguement again, we'll have people pouting and touting "we know it was in alpha2!" all over again. those shots could have easily come from a pre-alpha capacities build.

Patience my friend, patience. We all want it now but we need to give them time to do this right. None of us want to play a half finished non-polished STO now do we?

yes! :D

nah only joking :) i would prefer polish first than release then a ton of patching and bug fixing later only to find out one of the major systems didnt work so the game cannot really continue the way they wanted it to :)

lol

the way i see it if its called alpha-X it dont matter its alpha so it could be alpha-4000 its still alpha :D:D

either way if they have a working demo then the game should be progressing well hopefully its gone REAL well. I have a feeling they have been working on this for ages but only announced it so it concides with the ST convention how else would they have a demo ready? PE's site has said they are going to focus on developing their engine, whoose to say STO is not going to be using that engine??:D

most of this is just me hoping for a release this year. I really dont want to go back to wow I've had enough of lvl 70 blue's calling me fully epix(no stupid pvp ****) a noob.

basics of design in a nutshell:

design phase - docment built up, ahmmered out (the buble of the game)
art phase - get artists to give preliminary designs based of design doc paramiters
engine capacities test phase (pre-alpha) - build engine (or use existing engine) add art departments models, create quick "gameplay" type vid for investors and maybe public showing
alpha 1 - programmers begine building game mechanics into game
alpha 2 -in house beta testors get first crack at design, most game details hammered out by now
Beta 1 - official closed beta, in house beta testers have mostly finalized version
Beta 2 - first public beta - usually closed focus group for player feedbacks on balance issues and playability factors
Beta 3 - open public stress test, a way to advertise and test system at same time
Gold - Game launched to public.

using this model, i expect we'll see the pre-alpha vid from cryptic on the 10th.

Cryptic Studios will reveal the first gameplay footage from Star Trek Online on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Official Star TrekŪ Convention in Las Vegas. That is what Cryptic have said(i read into it what i wanted i guess:mad::mad:

even so gameplay footgage would suggest they have a game that is playable :D

Ian how do i make multiple quotes i hate having to post like 2-3 times and im sure it must irratate others

i normally just use the quote function once then seperate the different points or copy and paste the selected text you want and put [quote*] infront of the text and [/quote*] at the end (without the *'s )

and PC (minimising)

like this? there is a multi-quote button, click the threads you want to quote, then click "quote" on one of them and you get multiple quotes to respond to.

While I do have high hopes for this game as its finaly being worked on by a company that's been around a while. What information other than it is Star Trek do we have that says this game will rock?????

Don't get me wrong I'm just as excited about this game's potential as the rest of you but lets call a spade a spade, we just want a Star Trek MMO so bad that we'll jump at anyone that will give it to us. Think the little dog in Dr. Doolittle....throw the damned ball!!! :)

Hopefully they'll throw us a bone soon and we'll have some real info to discuss.

well for one the information in the "about star trek online" on the front page will give you some idea s alot of those features are what we want with the only 2 real concerns most of us have is wheither we will be the ship or have player crews and the other being how to fly around the galaxy

Currently playing AoC here. I'm so sick of fantasy games which is one of the many reasons I'm chomping at the bits for this game!
