Well... Could as well put it in here ;) There's a bit of story behind this little bugger, but I'll post it if people are interested in it.

The Hayden has a very specific task: map the stars no matter what. Starfleet's Centre for Stellar Cartagrophy (SCē) (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=3540) uses that information to update this really big, giant hologram of the galaxy, which is also used during wartimes for reviewing troop movement. I just finished modelling her yesterday, and now I'm churning out renders as we speak. So... What say you all?

Euh... That is, after we're done dealing with a little problem. No inline images allowed?

Beat me by a couple minutes. that's what I get for having to dig for screenshots to upload. :D

Cryptic doesn't as a rule do inline images as I understand it.. It keeps the forum formatting from getting screwed up and prevents threads that take ten minutes to download(a few abusive users mess things up for everyone).

Hmm, a real pitty. Can't they build in a function that makes a thumbnail from an attached picture? I know my own forum software has that option...

This ship looks really cool. It seems for me like a mixture of Nebula and Prometheus class.

I would love to see more ships from you!

Still determining that part, but I guess somewhere around the 20 or 30 yeah. It is small: she only has 6 decks, of which only 4 can actually be seen as such (deck 1 is the bridge, deck 6 houses the lower deflector control room and the airlocks), and enough escape pods to carry 40 people off the ship (4 people per escape pod, ten total) with a small captain's yacht (6 people, cramped) and a type 12 shuttle (6 people, cramped), so it's got enough escape options. Still figuring out how many people it would need, though...

You just have to ask ;) Kerkythea is rendering it's ass off right now, so there will be plenty of pictures coming up really soon :)

This shot shows the airlock a bit better. As with everything else that has windows on this ship, this one has some sort of an interior too. It's still empty save for the lights, but when I need to I can put anything in I want :)

Thanks for the kind words!

Here are some orthographic renders; I believe that some people have been wanting these for some time now ;) As said, I'm rendering as we speak, so new pictures should come in every now and then :)

Always liked this ship, was gonna blast you for stealing Borgmans design and claiming it as your own but then saw your signiture :-P

My only gripe with the design is the windows, they seem a ted messy atm, maybe windows with a horizontal stretch would look better? As well as giving the ship a more speedy look?

VisionM
07-30-2008, 03:09 PM
Yeah, someone else goes by that name too. He's only made two posts as of yet, so I think I need to persuade him to give it up to me :p I always put VisionM under my designs though, if I ever start a company that's what it'll be called ;)

Making the windows horizontal could make it look better, but it would probably mean that I'd have to change every window you see; plus, it would tone down the fact how small this ship actually is I'm afraid...

I have to say, I like the design. Kindda reminds me of the older Constellation Class ships but honestly, much cooler.

VisionM
08-04-2008, 03:56 AM
That's teh umm... Bachman turner coil... I guess :p the idea was that it's a sort of booster, the same device is present on the Akira class so I kind of got the idea from there :)

Well, I thought that the little... *thingy* on the catamaran was glowing, guess I was errornous in that. Enterprise does have a glowing thingy, though it does look a bit different and it's called a "Warp core output transfer junction", whatever it is.

Allright, here's the latest batch of images. I must confess, though, that I'm not really encouraged to post the stuff around here with the lack of inline images. Why isn't anyone of Cryptic paying attention? Atleast a notice that someone has read it would be nice...

Fantastic, This is the first Over/Under Two Nacelled vehicle I really like, The Sensor Arrays (I assume thats what they are, remind me of the Nebula Class's Module) on the Nacelles really balance out the look.

VisionM
08-06-2008, 02:35 AM
You're right Irish Fury, they are sensor pods. I like the shape as well, it worked out a LOT better than expected :) I started with sketching, and actually the shape of the ship came after the shape of the nacelles. I usually prefer to work top-down like that, as I desgin a ship to fit the nacelles, not the other way around ;)

I have been looking at this ship more and more and it seems to grow on me. At first I thought that the ship was just a rip off of the prometheus class but then you said it only had 6 decks!! At first glance you would not think that.

The ship looks great and i think that they should have this in the game kinda as an equal to the defiant (in size anyway)

Irish-Fury

I'm probably the only one that despises the Prometheus Class.... dunno.. just never liked it... maybe it has something to do with everyone and their mother playing one with the KM Mod for Bridge Commander.

This ship really seems to evoke its role quite well, as far as Character it feels to me a lot like the Lewis and Clark Deep Space Rescue Vehicle from the movie Event Horizon

VisionM
08-07-2008, 12:38 AM
Well I like the Prometheus because it looks so sleek and bad-ass, but alas I don't play games all that much. I'll continue on her interior soon, a mix between the Prometheus and the Dauntless.

Here it is in action. Note that BorgMan and VisionM are presumable the same character.

VisionM

Not presumable; it is ;) The name borgman was taken by someone else so I had to improvise ;)

Captain's log, stardate 65001.5.
We have been dispatched to a remote nebula, answering a faint and badly degraded distress signal. The signal is Starfleet, though we didn't know who send it as it did not have any identification markers attached. We have just arrived at the scene, and have discovered an old Leopard class frigate. Lifesupport and power are not present, but what worries me most is that a ship name or registry isn't either. I've composed a boarding party to find out what's going on, armed to the teeth...

Everything's dead sir... Seems she hasn't got a name either... (http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/4134/adriftls2.jpg)<-- Linky!

I have been trying to get Kerkythea lights mastered, but how do I make lights come from a source? and how ti change it's color?

VisionM
10-06-2008, 03:34 AM
That depensd on which program you're using as the source. If it's SU, then all the textures and colors are exported as well. When you context click the appropriate color, you can edit it and add stuff like bump mapping or self illuminance. Head over to the Kerkythea website, they've got a lot of tutorials in there :)

VisionM Thats a great little ship. Totally original yet yours and unique.

Ive seen alot of Pictures on these forums of new ships designs and I have to say this is by far the best. Alot of people have taken other well know Star Ships and changed them alittle to call there own! FAIL!

Well done VisionM..... You have impressed 1701 with this little number! ;)

THREAD NECROING! ZOMG ZOMG!

:D

I thought I'd show you guys some of the updates as well. I was busy making the Hayden fit for a nice pic when I came across a grave error: the shuttlebay doors were too small to let the shuttle pass. The entrance itself was big enough, but there wasn't enough space for the doors to slide away. So, I went with another route: doors that slide into the ceiling. It fits, barely, but it works pretty good :) It also gave me a chance of finishing up the interior. It isn't done yet, but I'm coming pretty close! If any of you spot anything that's still wrong or just missing, please tell me! The shuttlebay is a-symetrical: left there's room for a single workbee, right is the location of the elevator to the top level; there's no entrance at the lower level as Main Engineering is situated directly behind it. There's this thick ole wall in between though, so no worries about crashing shuttles that make the ship go boom ;)

Nice design, certainly more unique! I suppose you plan on designing this little beauty if the starship designing system allows for it. If so, more power to you!

Wow, you guys really like her don't cha?

At the moment, I'm not doing requests Captain Butters, perhaps some other time as I'm too busy with several models right now. I'm going to make some more renders of her, as some things have changed in the last couple of months. Don't sit on the edge of your chair just yet until I post those pictures :D

Yep sure do thanks for creating an awesome ship. You wouldn't be working on the bridge configuration would you?

VisionM
04-10-2009, 01:20 AM
Well... I had a bridge made for her, but I'll have to check if it still feets because I believe I made the ship itself a little bigger, which would mean I have more space inside the bridge dome. Here's a pic of the bridge as it was, though...

Yeah I was making a bridge, put in a couple hours of work. I ate lunch, came back down. Worked on it a bit. Then it crashed when I was saving, and it autosaved where it was in the first thirty minutes... I'm going to attempt it again later... Maybe... (And I was only a few details from finishing it and rendering and posting it on here :(

06-05-2009, 06:51 AM
Hey guys. I'm going to start drawing again to design the look of a couple ideas I had way back when.

What I need is someone with the skills to create the image in an Ortho to submit to STOL staff for consideration and creation for addition to the game.
I know that's all of our goals here, which I think is REALLY cool and means we're all on the same page, as it were.

So if you know of someone or if you have the skills/ability to take my drawing and turn it into a 3D model please let me know. it doesn't have to be super detailed, just has to look like a starship. That would be awesome!

Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to mention, this ship looks totally *****en!

Mighty_BOB_cnc
06-06-2009, 03:27 PM
@Murphy: Legally they cannot accept submissions. That is standard industry policy. They can't even open them. Why? Because then people could sue them for "stealing their ideas" (like the dirty trick people pull by slamming their breaks on in front of you so your car smashes into theirs for insurance money).

@Vision/Borgman: That captain's chair looks like an ergonomic nightmare! :p Everything else is awesome though. ;)

VisionM
06-07-2009, 01:35 PM
Ghe, I know Mighty_BOB, that bridge is so old, I never went back to it. I'm in all honesty not even sure if I'm ever going to be doing that, but perhaps one day... But then again, I'd probably remove the bridge and replace it with just a sensor dome, with the bridge beneath it in the primary hull. Would give it a LOT more space I think...
