Greetings from the United Federation of Planets

FA Intro

My name is John Hathaway, Fleet Admiral for the {UFP}, founded in May 2002. I've held the FA position since September 2002 and I'm extremely proud to represent the UFP and all it has become over the past 7 years.

We currently support

Star Trek Online (positions available - Federation and Klingon factions supported)
Voyager: Elite Force
Bridge Commander
RPG-X 2.2 (RP mod for EF1, more info: http://www.ubergames.org/projects/rpg-x/)
(Also looking forward to ST Excalibur, more info: www.STExcalibur.com)

Fleet Ethos & Summary

Dependable, accessible leadership and strong fleet involvement...

I believe our long term success has stemmed through sensible and reliable leadership from all those with responsibilities, from the highest ranks, down.
While we believe in the need for a military hierarchy we also believe it is imperative that the fleet is able to have a strong voice. So we actively encourage wide involvement in a myriad of fleet affairs. This is your fleet as much as it is mine. No one "owns" the UFP.

Casual and hardcore gamers welcome...

We are very much a clan which believes in the idea of "you get out, what you put in". If you're committed and dedicated to the UFP, you'll go far within it. There are numerous members who will attest to that.
However if you feel you're a casual player with limited time and perhaps many real life commitments, it's not a problem at all. All we ask is that you sign in at our monthly roll call, beyond that you are free to do as much or as little as you can/like. We understand real life comes first and we will not make any undue demands on our member base. Those with specific duties in the UFP simply need to hand them over temporarily in their absence.

Wide variety of play types, with a friendly and lively atmosphere...

We are a general fleet, in so much as we don't get bogged down by labels such as RP or PvP. We feel it is our duty to provide a wide ranging and flexible base upon which our members can enjoy a varied and fun organisation.
Our community is well known for its high spirit and willingness to help out, we are all classic Star Trek fans after all. We are constantly challenging our member base to get involved and bring about new ideas, and even lead their own projects under UFP support. So if this sounds like a fleet you want to be involved in, be sure to check us out

In closing...

If you have any questions, wish to discover more about the UFP, or are interested in joining, drop by our website and forums at www.ufplanets.com.
Alternatively, post a message here or drop me a PM.

Goodday there forumers!

Mack here reporting online for duty,
The games we play are always fun ones, bad apples will be thrown out but we're always the explorers to seek some new peace out there,

The STO. Division eagerly awaits the arrival of STO and probably will be a very tight and serious group of players, intrested?...

Anyways, Filling our time with RPG-X mod on Elite server is quite fun, although Theres bridge commander to concider, think about it, Its the mix of those 2 games and alot more that eventually will be STO!

Saying Hi for now,
Macking off !

It seems that I'm not the only one who thought of starting a recruiting thread. :D

I must say that I am definitely glad I joined {UFP}, and I love the friendships and activity of our fleet. Looking forward to playing with everyone when ST:O is finally released.

Try out {UFP}! I can say with certainty that you won't be disappointed!

Mullaly

Oh, I suppose I should add that we have a large base of members interested in ST:O, and there are plenty of opportunities to make your mark, and move up within the fleet.

Sharpkiller

Hi guys.
We had a great RP group last night, the server reached a record 18 crew members online at one time (the server usually peaks at about 14-16 but is capable of holding up to 32).
The roleplay included a story about rescuing a Federation ship which had become caught in a "black wormhole". It culminated in our ship, the Poseidon-B, crash landing on a planet... all very dramatic with admin created explosions, the ship shaking and epic music playing lol. Everyone played their roles well and the dialogue was a great read.
We decided to leave the story there, but before most of us left, we managed to get a group shot of us all. Enjoy :)

To join go to www.ufplanets.com register, go to Public Comms - Join the Federation. Read the application guidelines and apply.

Hathaway

We're a fleet foremost as Crazyfist explained, but we also value a good roleplay, so have set up a dedicated division just for RPing. We've also been prepping for STO for a long time, and are actively seeking new recruits just as excited as we are :)

Right now we have 8 people on our server playing aboard the USS Serenity, a galaxy-class starship. More info on our dedicated server can be found here: http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/208.43.15.106:20001/

I was just curious. I am already second in command over a newly formed fleet that will be entirely STO based. I was just curious because, while I understand your guild name in context, to name a fleet the "United Federation of Planets" in the STO context seems misguided to me.

However, given the role that your group/guild/organization does outside of STO, I understand now. :)

Crazyfist
08-04-2008, 08:11 AM
Yeah I can see why you think its misguided, but if you think that it was founded as a gaming fleet in 2002, it makes perfect sense to name it so :P

Info to you all.

CO Endeavour and XO Crazyfist (me) of the Starfleet Falcons have decided to revert to KM 0.9.1 BC mod instead of km 1.0.
This will allow me to host RPGs once again without any major lag. Back about a year or more so, whenever I hosted my The Warzone - RPG it usually took about 5 minutes until it was full with about 12-16 people. We RPGed about 1-3 hours and made alot of friends. When we start implementing this i suggest you all join us in the fight against the borg or romulans or whatever fate spawns for us ;)

I recently joined the {UFP} and I don't think I have ever met a more friendly group of people. Not saying STAR TREK FANS aren't friendly, but these fans are totally awesome.
I highly recommend that if your looking to join a group of players in any Star Trek Game, join the {UFP} and have a blast!
Feel free to contact me or anyone else at any time if you have questions. I know we are always happy to help! :)

Ive been RPing Star Trek since I was a kid. Luckly my friends that lived in my neighborhood liked Trek too so we used to get together and play all the time. Whether it was with the Star Trek Micro Machines, which I still treat as gold today, or turning my basement into a bridge or grabbing a phaser and going outside.

But when i got Elite Force when it first came out I saw the potential for the game and thank god someone saw it too and made the RPG-X2 mod, because it is awesome. I still remember when the first couple of RP maps came out ... like CTF_Deralict 1 through 3.

Im really interested in your group, but I dont use or play any of the old star trek mods you currently use for RPing. Id love to get in with all of you though for STO. I come from a pretty hardcore roleplaying community called ALFA. Mostly Dungeons and dragons based using 3.5 rules and the Neverwinter nights 1 and 2 engines.

Would love to do some forum roleplay and IRC stuff if possible till STO comes out. I just cant play the older star trek mods.

Hathaway
08-09-2008, 01:07 PM
We have people who've joined simply in anticipation of STO, giving their thoughts on the game and as the game progresses and we learn more, conversation will evolve into how our division will work best with the game. So you're welcome to join us on that basis, all we have is a roll call every other week.

As for forum RPing, I personally don't have the time for it. You're more then welcome to attempt to start one up, we can create a forum for that purpose. Similarly I'm happy for anyone to use the chat room for live text RPs. Just give me a shout and I can create a room for that purpose.

Naturally we've built upon available information but we welcome input from all members on how you'd like to see this division constructed and what you expect from the {UFP} as a member. So join today and have your say!

UFPlanets is not just a fleet directed at war, or peace. We are just here to have a good time and make the most of what we have at hand, and soon when st:o is operational, i assure you we will be having fun in all sectors of the alpha quadrant... btw he never answered that question. Maybe there will be delta and gamma quadrants?! :O

Keep me in mind for a fleet. If *any* fleet name should exist and consist of high quality players, then I feel one sporting the UFP logo.

I would be interested in the UFP for sure.

Z3r0Fear
08-11-2008, 08:42 AM
I see UFP say that msn messenger is used as a primary contact. What about Ventrillo? If you guys don't have that even I would suggest getting it because it makes communication much easier and also its far better to be talking to someone then to be typing to someone. I have interest I'm just wondering if you have vent or not.

TS or Ventrillo will undoubtedly be used again, however MSN is used primarily for keeping in contact. It's also easier to juggle multiple contacts at once on MSN, then a voice convo which requires almost undivided attention... leaving me with little time to do anything else lol.
TS or Vent will be great for gaming though.

Our STO division is recruiting, and of course the game has not yet been released. Instead those who have joined for that reason alone, can be involved in discussing the make-up of the division for once the game does launch. This will obviously evolve as we learn more information about the game and how fleets will be able to interact... like for example the ability to create fleet installations on top of our player ships.
While the {UFP} houses a command structure, and those in what we call the Admirals Council do make the final decisions (or confirmation) we strongly encourage our members to share their thoughts on structuring the clan, even spearheading their own projects if they wish.
So while it would be best to own one of the games we support, as it allows you to train in our Academy and gain a commission, and of course join in with our gaming, it isn't a necessity.
I believe a few of us have EF2, but I think EF1 is far more widely supported.

Enjoyed another session on the RPG-X server last night with the {UFP} gang. It is SO refreshing to play with people who really love Star Trek. In other games, it's all about the fragging; total supremacy is all the players care about and they'll step on anyone along the way to achieve it. It's so heartening to have found a gaming group that does not follow that idea.

I cannot stress this enough: {UFP} is quite simply the best fleet to join for those who love Star Trek and socializing with friendly gamers who play for the love of the game, not the love of the win.

Accept no substitutes, and don't be fooled by similarly-named guilds...{UFP} is the way to go.

I was in a session last night, and before an unfortunate glitch caused my connection to die, we were in a map that resembled the Event Horizon from the movie of the same name. Since I LOVED that movie, I was in geek heaven being able to connect the Star Trek universe and that movie's setting. What made it even better was the roleplaying put forth by the players online.

Welcome, PAw! Don't worry; this group will make you feel as welcome as you can imagine. I wasn't sure if I wanted to get into another gaming guild after some of the guilds I'd been in after the one I co-ran shut down. Those guilds were impersonal; you were just a player, the others didn't take time to talk to you or get to know you at all, and there was absolutely no feeling of cooperation when I was grouped with them in games.

{UFP} is nothing like that. We're welcoming, friendly, and encourage teamwork and enjoyment above all. We hold regular ST gaming sessions that anyone who has played a multiplayer Star Trek game even casually could get involved in (though we definately cater to the hardcore Trek gamers, too!). Our forums are well organized and frequently maintained, and our group chat is always open for questions, chatting, and general merriment.

Hello all. I am new to STO, but I've been a ST fan for a while (I have never put on "Spock ears", but I have been to a number of conventions since the '70s and have at least 4 tribbles). I am looking to get connected to a good group (guild/alliance/federation/wing) for when STO does finally go on-line. UFP seems like a logical choice, but I had a specific question to ask. I did some research on UFP at the web site given earlier, and it seems that UFP is about more than just the STO game, which is fine. The question is: Will UFP members be required to participate in non-Cryptix-STO activities, meetings, etc., or will members who are only interested (at least initially) in playing STO be admitted as well? I would not want to sign up for more than I can handle, but at the same time I take my ST reasonably seriously with just enough fun and humor to make it worthwhile. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hathaway
08-14-2008, 10:28 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong someone, but I think most of our members install BC 1.1 then copy paste the game twice, then install 0.91 one one, and 1.0 KM mod on the other. That way you have the best of all worlds.
0.91 is used for RP games only I believe, due to lag issues when adding multiple ships in 1.0 version.

Hello winhack. We do have some members who either cannot or do not wish to participate in the other gaming divisions we have set up, but are interested in our STO division. This is perfectly fine as we're looking to gain input from all our members on how best to integrate the {UFP} into an MMO environment. We believe a large fleet will have many interesting aspects to explore beyond solo-play. There are also other non-gaming areas you can be involved in, if you choose to be.
However that said, all you need do to maintain your {UFP} membership is sign in at roll call once every other week. This is a formality so we're aware of who's here and their general status.
If you have any further questions I'll be happy to answer them:)

This allows you to be promoted via non-gaming tasks!
Check out this News Announcement here: http://ufpforum.ufplanets.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2184

This was a great idea, and the new ranking system looks great! I personally play Star Trek games on xbox and PS2 but never got into them on the computer. This will be great for me as I am very excited about STO. Thank you!! :)

Any news on Mr.Mull? I need to speak to him about that surprise we had for you.

Not yet I'm afraid, did you get the message I left for you on MSN? We can start pushing forward with that soon then, I'm sure people would appreciate some of the diversity we want to introduce to the structure.
Personally as good a job as Cryptic have done here I'm disappointed with the forum layout. Everything is too compact into one forum to discuss all aspects of STO. I'd like to see more structured discussion boards on our own, perhaps even publically available for some.

The {UFP} would like to invite everyone to its new community forums at http://sto.ufplanets.com

Membership is not required to join in. We have created catagorised forums to make it easier to discuss certain topics of interest. Of course one of the main advantages will be not having your topic buried by a wave of new ones in just a few short minutes (annoying isn't it?).

We are looking to create further features for community users, and if you have a suggestion for improvement we'd be happy to hear them:D

This is truly an awesome fleet I just joined it recently for STO and these guys are a lot of fun. I recommend anyone that's interested in Bridge Commander/Armada 1&2/Elite Force/STO/Other games to check out this clan. They are extremely organized, they play games together a lot and they are one of the best Starfleet clans set for STO right now. Join them while it's hot :P.

Folks, if you haven't already stopped by, please make sure to visit the STO Division of the {UFP}. We've got great discussions going on right now, and plenty of easy-to-find facts and thoughts about Star Trek: Online.

And, in general, give strong consideration to joining the {UFP}. A more friendly and helpful group of dedicated ST game-players and fans cannot be imagined. I've felt more welcomed with them than I have in any other gaming guild I've ever been a part of.

:::INCOMING TRANSMISSION FROM {UFP}Vyzic:::

Ladies and gentlemen, I have returned....

You're welcome :)

I've been with the {UFP} for a good while now, (over 6 months) in purely an STO capacity. This is a great bunch of folks, and Crazyfist, Hathaway, and Darkaiz up there have gone back and forth with me on a great many topics since we all bounced around the ST:O.net forums before Perpetual gave up the ghost.

Looking forward to reconnecting with folks from the {UFP} as well as those ST:O.net forums.

Alright guys, Looking for a fleet to join.

I think I was a member for you community a long time back playing BC - I was called 'one' (from the UK). I am looking for a friendly community who will support their colleagues and not call me Ensign as I am new!

Background - Like many before me, I have completed BC,SFC, Armada, Conquest, Legacy, Tact Assault, Elite Force and so on.

Favourite ships include the Defiant and Sovereign class

Is there space to come aboard?

What the quickest way not to be a cadet.?

Hathaway
08-26-2008, 01:31 PM
If you're joining to play any of our supported games, Armada 1&2, Starfleet Command 3, Elite Force 1&2 or Bridge Commander, you'll be placed as a cadet immediately and training will be offered in any of the prementioned games. The speed at which you progress largely depends on how much time you have, and how often you can grab a trainer for training.
If however you're joining purely in anticipation of STO, that is you don't want to play any of the older Trek games, you'll be given the enlisted rank of Crewman 3rd Class. Promotion from here is based on your involvement in preperation and in general. This can lead to a commissioned rank over time.

Many thanks for your response.

I am currently playing Amarda 2 again (single player). Once I am accepted I wil enter some training.

I will see if I can go up the ranks before ST-O comes online. Thanks once again

I'm wondering if its possible to change my name on here. It seems a little silly to have a different name in my sig and a different account name. You guys know how I can get it changed?

Hathaway

I think the admins have disabled name changing function. May have to create a new account.
The really strange thing is though, that now as I'm typing this responce and looking down at the Topic Review, I see your name not as Cpt. Rob but as Z3r0Fear. No idea why...

Although I shouldn't be because the odds are never in my favor for those types of things, I'm excited about the announcement of who won the lifetime subscriptions. I'm hoping someone from this fine group, the {UFP}, is one of the potential players selected. Then we'd guarantee the existence of the {UFP} in Star Trek Online for as long as the game is active. ;-)

Hathaway
08-28-2008, 02:47 PM
They said on or around today for the sweepstakes winners to be announced. Shouldn't be long before we hear who the lucky winners are :)

Shatterhand
08-29-2008, 06:28 AM
This is a shameless bump; I feel the need to sing this group's praises.

There are so many guilds/clans forming for STO, well before the game is even in the beta stages, which is not unexpected, but quite ably proves just how dedicated we Star Trek fans are to this game and being able to share it with others.

There are choices a-plenty on this forum, and I'm sure each of them have their selling points. I don't begrudge any of them, as long as they're honest and fair with their recruitment. It will be a pleasure to interact with them in-game, I'm sure.

I'll admit that I did very little research into {UFP} before deciding to join their ranks. I went to their site, clicked a few public forum links, and was impressed enough to submit my application. But, in all honesty, it turned out to be the best decision I could have made.

The {UFP} is the friendliest, most helpful and encouraging group of gameplayers I've met in a long time. Any one of them are willing to go above and beyond to assist fellow members with any ST-game related issues. From Elite Force 1-2, RPG-X and Bridge Commander to Star Trek Armada 1-2 and Starfleet Command 3, they're ready and willing to get a game together with other members or just chat in the {UFP} chatroom.

Their forums are regularly maintained, and it's easy to find a topic on whatever ST game you may currently play and enjoy. Plus, the STO Division is simply spectacular. I highly encourage all prospective players to check it out.

This may seem like clan shilling of the highest order, but I wouldn't be typing any of this if it wasn't true. The {UFP} is a great group of ST gamers, and a worthy addition to the growing STO universe.
