View Full Version : What is your Favorate ship and why?

one of the ways us Trekkies / Trekkers get to know one another is to know each others favorite ships, everyone has one, and a specific reason as to why. it does not have to be one of the main ships like the enterprise ( Constitution, Excelsior, Ambassador,Galaxy,Sovereign, or NX) but if it is then lets hear about it.
Personally i love the Romulan warbird, it is powerful, sleak, sneeky, and is powered by a Micro wormhole which i find very fascinating. and it can go toe to toe with the best of the best of star fleet and walk away on its own power.
a close second would be the Prometheus Class Starship, its Multi Phase mode is very innovative and i really like the fact it has a ship wide holo-emitter array.
so what is your favorate type of ship? give us your imput

well according to the banner uptop we will be blowing up your favorite ship a fair few times haha :D
for me it boils down to 2 class's:
Nebula Class - cant get enough of it
Achilles - although not an official design (coming from the DS9: Dominin Wars gme)i love it just as much

I've always been partial to the Intrepid class. I love its curves and have always preferred smaller ships. Not to mention that it is Lotus Fleet's flagship. :p

As with my sig, the Norway class. I just like the look, plus there is so little known about it since it's first contact mesh was irretrievably lost.

Miranda- and Akira-class vessels are my favorite. I always liked the way they had the torpedoes mounted above the saucer section. I also like the Luna-class vessels.

wouldent want to see you in your escape pod and have the desire for some target pratice while in one of those :D

:Dwell according to that banner, one shot from an Akira could take one out haha :D plus it would depend if you was fighting the Nebula or Achilies :)
Achilles was designed to fight giant Cardassian warships like the Hutet so i think it could handle an old warbird aswell haha

Romulan Warbird has probably been my favorite for a long time, but I'm going to go and say something like the Keldon-class Cardassian ship. I really enjoy the Cardassian design from outfits to ships. It kind of speaks to me of strength, pride, and a brutal desire for victory, whatever the cost.

well from the banner above the warbird is still firing and kickin. dont think that a explosion means the death of a starship.

Defiant class ftw! I've always felt that they haven't shown enough of the smaller ships. Shuttle craft are so blah. It was refreshing to see Worf captaining that little thing in Nemesis. Oh also the little ship Voyager acquires is cool.

I gotta say though, the Achilles would own a Warbird, hands down.
Then again, I think the Defiant would destroy a Warbird too.
For me, its in this order:
1. Achilles - My baby, always and forever. USS Wuuf for the win!
2. Defiant - C'mon, its the Defiant!
3. Akira - Its a Galaxy with all the fun of the Defiant. What more could you want?

I'm going to say the Ambassador class. It's the perfect blend of Old School Enterprise A and just enough new school to give it a inviting posture.
Sides it could take one hell of a pounding, just ask the klingons and romulans. ;)

For a Federation ship my favorite is a tie between the Enterprise-A (or original refit, same thing) or the Excelsior class (not the Ent-B varient). The Enterprise-A and the Excelsior were involved in my favorite Star Trek space battle ever, the one at the end of Star Trek VI TUC. So awesome!
My favorite non-Federation ship is the Romulan Warbird. It's just so imposing, so powerful, and so feared. It's one of only two Star Trek models I've ever built, and the other one was the Excelsior!

For me, it's all about the bleeding edge. The faster, the more toys, the more firepower, the better!
I loved the ships we only got to see brief glimpses of like the Prometheus or the Relativity in the Voyager series.
Who couldn't love a ship that could split into three independent sections or beam people through not only space, but time as well!
As far as major ships go, I always had liked the Intrepid class. Voyager was one of my favorite series after TNG.

Personally, I'd have to say it is a toss up between three classes here:
1) Defiant Class
I once asked myself, If the Galaxy Class is an exploration vessel and it can stand up to a Romulan WARbird, what the hell would a rue Federation Warship be like? O_o. The Defiant gave me my answer... with style. Arguably the most versatile vessel in the Federations armada during the Dominion Wars, this little beast was the only true warship to be in active duty at this time. Sadly, the Federation being who they are, they referred to it as an, "escort vessel," despite it's state of the art Quantum Torpedoes, pulse phaser, shielding and that cloaking device. Whatever your favourite ship, you really can't argue with this simple fact: The Defiant class is literally a kick ass ship class.
2) Prometheus Class
Multi-vector attack mode? State of the art shielding? Almost got stolen by the Romulans? Any ship that almost gets stolen by the Romulans has GOT to be good. Period. Oh and then there is the comic value of the new EMH. Can't go wrong there really can you? If I were a Starfleet captain and they turned round to me and said, "Here! Have this state of the art 3-ships-in-one prototype," I'd wet myself. Warships baby - That's what it is all about ;-) Unless your the Federation, in which case it's not a warship - it's a multi-role escort vessel -_-
3) Galaxy Class
The Federation are a bunch of nutters with phasers and morals. That's the only conclusions I can come to. My personal impression of an exploration vessel = ship with a couple of phaser and LOTS of science stations. The Federations idea of an exploration vessel = ship with lots of science stations, lots of phasers, lots of torpedoes, lots of decks, an ability to separate and... a BATTLE bridge. Oh please. The Galaxy Class is an exploration vessel in as much as it says, "Oh look! Unexplored space! Let's SHOOT it!!!" I love Picard as well... with his shiny head. The Galaxy class really does, "Make it so." It's really makes me want to, "Engage!" It's possibly the only ship that gets me to, "Red Alert." Ok... ok... I'm sorry. I couldn't resist.

The Nova class or the Intrepid class, not sure though. I just love the way they can land on planets. And their lines... best designs in Star Trek so far. :)
Kazekawa
07-28-2008, 01:47 AM
The Constitution Class all the way. Classic, old school and survived alot of encounters. I suppose my next favorite would be the Sh'Raan combat cruiser (vulcan's for the win).
Gonna go with Intrepid.
Starfleet in recent years seems to be putting more eggs into the 'smaller, more maneuverable' classes.

When I was younger, I was awestruck by the design of the Constitution-class refit. To me, it personified the most classic Starfleet look, taking the iconic shape of the original Enterprise and updating it with a more detailed and believable design. I love the fact that the design of this ship, now more than thirty years old, still holds up among the most timeless of starship designs. It always felt real to me, like an aging navy vessel, and everything about its design just felt functional somehow.
After seeing First Contact, I (and apparently quite a few others, judging from its popularity) fell in love with the Akira-class. Something about its swooping design and unique configuration (at least until its general body shape was robbed by the designers of the Enterprise NX-01) appealed to me immensely. Not long thereafter, I read an interview in a Trek Magazine with the Akira's designer. He explained that he had designed the ship to be something of a Federation "gun boat." He pointed out that he had equipped the ship with fifteen torpedo bays lining the Akira's distinctive dorsal pod.
This idea of a Federation ship with a specialized tactical role appealed to me immensely, and the Akira has been my favorite ship design ever since. I like to imagine it as a fast-attack response and defense vessel, patrolling the Federation's numerous colonies and gradually phasing out the familiar but archaic Miranda-class vessels.

Intrepid or Prometheus. I have a weakness for sleek designs.

I've always been a fan of the Refit Constitution class, like the Enterprise in the first six movies. Took elementals from the orignal and gave it a sleeker look.
Defiant class is a close second. A really solid design that gets the idea across "Warship".
Sovereign class was neat, but its really only appeared a few times.

Wow this is a hard one. Over the years star trek has had some great ships such as the Consitution, Defiant, Nebula, & Galaxy.
If you are looking for an warship ~cough~ heavy escort, then defiant is your number one choice. But for me I would love a Consitution refit. With a second choice of Galaxy. However i am also looking forward to some new ships.....so roll on those original designs :)

i love the intrepid class, i fell inlove with it during the voyager series, how the warp coils thingy move when it goes to warp, the design.
Well in all it's not to big, not to small and it has a nice and lovely design i can't explain it but i simply love it.

Well ok... err my favorite clases are:
1.) Constitution Refit
Just click here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BebiM3xDymA&NR=1) and you know why :D
2.) Miranda Classic/Refit
That Saratoga Refit design is just awesome :D. Miranda is such a cool cannon-food class (remeber the scene in ds9, the great battle. 2 Miranda´s got hit by 1-2 torpedo´s and are gone :D)
and so is the
3.) Bird of Prey B´Rel
Such a nice 30yrs old cloacked piece of dump in space, hurting enemies nerves like a fly flying around there heads ^^. Well... and thats nearly all that piece of crap can do, but its still awesome x)

Bah, annoying question.
Starfleet... Intrepid Class is definitely number one - shifting nacelles, great looking ship - very sleek and slim. Followed closely by the USS Defiant - cloak, pulse phasers, mmm.
Alien, definitely the Warbird, what more is there to say.

Hmmm, favorite ships...well I may as well just do an ordered list, since I have a few..
1. Nova-class, I just love the style of it really..
2. Galaxy-class, because I grew up on TNG, so it's nostalgic, dammit!
3. Sovereign-class, because it is just a damn sexy craft, hehe..
4. Intrepid-class, this was most likely the ship I would've strived to Captain when Perpetual had the IP, from its mission profile, etc. We'll see how things go with Cryptic, they may not change from that, ;)
5. Defiant-class, the Millenium Falcon of Trek, :P
Darmok
07-28-2008, 05:10 AM
Akira and Defiant class are my favorite.
I like the Akira mainly because of the design and I just love the fact that the Defiant is the only true Federation Warship. Deep Space Nine just added this little bit more of realism in Star Trek with the introduction of this class.
On a side not, I also like the small fighters a lot. I could have an nice small battlegroup with one Akira with some quads of peregrine fighters aboard flanked by to Defiant class ships I would be a happy captain :)

Weighing in for the Constitution Refit - the "movie" Enterprise from the original era. All the ship designs from those movies were great, in my opinion, it was like the "muscle car" era for the American auto industry. But the constitution, in particular, makes me think of one WWII pilot's description of the P-51D Mustang: even sitting still on the tarmac, it looked like it was moving forward, like it wanted to leap into the sky.

dont under estamate the power of the romulan warbird. it just might be your ship that will be doing the blowing up.

ehh the Romulans there lines were crumbling during the Dominion wars, those ships are far to large, and are not armed like there look would like to let ye beleve. That is why there lines crumbled.
Thats why I like the Norexan/valdore class. Not that they were any good against the scimy.
That is why i came up with my own ship. LOL
A Defiant class hull, but with a short neck, where a D'Deridex "head" is attached too. Up on the head the same thingy as the Negh'Var uses above its head. From the bottom of the nacelles K'Vort like wings going upwards (with a Scimitar look mixed threw it, and some obvious Torpedo launchers), some massive Disrupter cannons attached to the ends, also at the ends some Norexan/Valdore class nacelles (giving it 4 nacelles with those). And at the rear, a Fluyt (V.O.C. sailing ship design) rear castle.
it should however not be an übership, so I would suggest it's hull (Defiant class) would be sized as a defiant.
If I had to choose a canon ship, i'd say, le Val Jean

I'm an old Star Fleet Battles baby, so i know the older ship stats better. From what ive seen id go with a Bird of Prey, rugged and easily modified. Upgrade the cloaking device and mount Hydran Hellbore launchers under the wings. Since this is Next Gen. id love to qauntum those hellbores and replace the nose Disruptor for a Shield Disruptor. hmmmm how do you say "avast me hardies" in klingon? :D

I am rather fond of the steamrunner class. Slightly less powerful than the defiant, but far better looking!
If i was looking for a ship that could be more useful in other situations, that don't involve taking on a Borg Cube, then i would so go with the Norway class. Powerful, but much better suited for diplomatic and science missions, besides it is possible the most unique looking ships!
But, if i will prolly go with a Olympic Medical Ship if i get to capt my own, as i would love to go medical prof in the game!

My Favourite Ship Class runners up are:
Miranda refit
Soyuz
D'deridax
NX
Intrepid
Nova
Akira
and Soverign
The winners are:
Prometheus
Galaxy
and Defiant
Reasons why I chose the Prometheus is it's fearsome looking. A Great looking four necelled "multi-vector-assult-mode warship. The Defiant Class is small and is a preverial masonry nail in the side to its enemies. But the Galaxy Class would get me running if I were a Gorn Commander. The shear size and fire power, usefullness, speed and onboard facilities as well as it's role during the Dominion war, there must have been an idiot in control of the USS Odessy, not even bothering to raise sheilds in the ten second or so ramming!

My favorite smaller ship is the Delta Flyer, hands down. Especially when they rebuilt it to have the pop-out impulse thrusters.
In the big starships category, my absolute favorite is the Soveriegn-Class, followed closely by the Nova, Galaxy, and Defiant classes in a sort of 3-way tie. But I love pretty much all of the Federation starship designs.

I am really excited by this thread. Let me explain why after I tell you my favorites: the Constitution Refit, The Sovereighn (probably because its lines are so close to the refit), the Bird of Prey (both the Klingon and the Romulan ones!) and the Warbird.
I am excited because there are alot of folks here that are interested in different ships. Absolutely amazing! I don't want to see everyone running around in the same space. Its great!

Defiant - Fast, tough, rather like a Prihana
Nebula - Techy, and just looks seriously cool, and its many many configurations available, customisability!
Akira - Looks good, nothing else to say!
Promethus - future tech, always good - plus, the shipwide holo emmitter is brillaint
Intrepid - it took on a 8472 Bio-Ship and lived 1 shot... i like that!

Akira, if we're sticking with Federation, as it's just an awesome design, good mix of scientific and military applications.
Overall, I have to go with the Valdore's design from Nemesis, the Norexan / Mogai class (did they ever come up with a canon name? Can't remember.) Sleek, functional, fast... it's what the Romulans needed.

I would have to say....TOS Enterprise...just because..hey...its the original.....and the Prometheus Class....its just bad ass.
Hmm. Tough one. I'm a big fan of starships in general, so I typically have lots of faves.
I've recently become very fond of the original Connie-- you really tend to think it's a very simple design, but once you try to model one, you find it's actually got a LOT of hidden little details. Beautiful.
Movie-era, Wrath-style Miranda class. The Reliant was literally my first-favorite trek ship. I actually made a project of trying to model a 'Miranda II' class, with the idea of bringing the venerable Miranda style forward into Sovreign-styling.
TNG-era, I loved the Nebula. It's like a Galaxy-style Miranda, sort of.
Movie-era-but-from-TNG-- Constellation-class. The Stargazer looked great, and the fact Picard always kept a soft spot for the ship was kind of awesome.
DS9-era... the Runabouts. I LOVE Danubes. Particularly when they're sporting the weapons pod up top.
Other odds and ends--
The Steamrunner. It's just neat, especially the rear-mounted deflector. I love unusual designs from that Advanced Starship Initiative thing.
The Akira. I love the catamaran-style hull and over-slug weapon pod. I always want to re-design the nacelles, though. I'm not a fan of those boxy things.
The Lakota. Never was a fan of the Excelsior or Ent-B version, but the refit DS9-era Excelsior hull looks nice. Along similar lines, the Chabot(which I believe is a fan-made design) is a really excellent-looking Sovreign-era Excelsior-style design.
The Centaur-class. It's just a neat little Excelsior-offshoot thing.
Edit: Almost forgot-- For some reason i just really love the Oberth. Something about that Frisbee-saucer it's got going.
Non-federation....
There's a little 'stock independant ship' that showed up all over TNG... wedge-shaped, with four X-shaped fins on the back. Always thought it looked neat.
The classic Rommie Warbird. Something about it is just snazzy, and I recently saw a fan design of a classic warbird done with modern Rommie styling. It was VERY cool.
The Romulan Valdore. Man, I love that ship. It looks pretty nice, especially the bronze-colored variant, but I really fell in love with the ship when I was playing SFC3 back in the day. GREAT-looking bird.
Klingon K'tingas and Vor'chas. I'm never quite sure why-- I just love the look.
Klingon Bird of Prey. I blame the HMS Bounty. I want an aquarium in my bird. ;D

I will always have a special place in the heart-hole for both the Akira and the Intrepid classes, but I'm partial to the core Excelsior design which has been modified to the next generation of ships (Enterprise - B) and on into the future (USS Lakota). The Centaur class is also a favorite by association, since it is a kit-bash of the Excelsior model. The Nova Class that Harry Kim commanded in Voyager's last episode is also a great design.
As for the Klingon side, I've always liked the D-5 model - its kind of their "jack of all trades" vessel with elements of the newer D-7/K'tinga's plus some of the more classic BoP and Vor'cha features.

The Lakota. Never was a fan of the Excelsior or Ent-B version, but the refit DS9-era Excelsior hull looks nice.

http://techspecs.acalltoduty.com/images/excelsior/excelsior1.jpg
http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/6/6f/USS_Lakota.jpg
From Memory Alpha entry on the USS Lakota
Named for the Native American tribe, the Lakota was a re-use of the adapted USS Excelsior studio model of the USS Enterprise-B from Star Trek Generations.
Although the fairings on either side of the deflector dish were designed to avoid damaging the original Excelsior model, the glue used to hold them on permanently damaged the model, requiring the production team to leave them on for the model's appearance as the Lakota, and make another model for the Excelsior's appearance in VOY: "Flashback".
The original Excelsior model was still marked with the Lakota's name and registry number when it was sold as Lot #998 at Christie's 40 Years of Star Trek: The Collection auction on 7 October 2006 for US$132,000 including the buyer's premium (the winning bid was US$110,000).

My favorite ship is the Sovereign Class (USS Enterprise-E) for several reasons:
1: It is the best looking and streamlined ship in Star Trek
2: The most firepower of any Star Trek ship. In ST: NEMESIS the ship had 16 Phaser Arrays and 9 Torpedo Launchers - the average number of Phaser Arrays is 10-11 and 2-4 Torpedo launchers. Further, in Nemesis, the ship rammed another ship and was not destroyed, most ships would have been. In short it's a stronger ship than any other in Trek.
3: It has the best Bridge, Engineering, etc in Trek.
The Excelsior Class (Excelsior and Ent-B) would be my favorite 23rd century vessel and NX-Class (Ent NX-01) would be my favorited 22nd century ship.

Ill agree that the new looking Warbird is a sleak looking vessel. My vote for favorite would have to be the Akira class though. It packs a lot of firepower for a little ship. I guess you would have to classify it as a destroyer with FIFTEEN torpedo launchers!

Dreadnaught.
Because the "Star Trek Technical Manual" was the first thing I purchased in the 1970's that labeled me a geek/nerd with my friends. That and the blueprints for the Enterprise. Also because I liked the idea the Feds were building stronger ships to take on the Klingons and Romulans and because it looks like a cool design.

My favorite 'more classic' class is the Ambassador, especially refit in an Ambassador-X configuration. In appearance, the Ambassador was a big step up from the Constitution. It has a nicely balanced saucer vs main hull vs nacelle proportions that make it look meatier than earlier Federation ships, and it looks even cooler refit with a dorsal third nacelle, with the other two nacelles turned downward. It is a a largely under utilized class in Star Trek episodes (a few notable exceptions) but refit Ambassadors could still be great looking ships in a post TNG era. Its round saucer still looks good in the face of other radical designs because its proportions are well balanced - more squat than the Galaxy. Classic federation design.
In the post-TNG era, I love the top half of Intrepid class ships (I think the original designers really nailed this), and hate the bottom views (much plainer, not nearly as interesting. more awkward in shape). I am intrigued by the Prometheus (hull shape and quad nacelles, not the multi-vector system) and think ultimately that wedge shape (perhaps smoothed into the Intrepid hull) is a nicer 'future' shape for federation vessels than the wildly flat and curvy designs that are out there. But the perfect ship is yet to be invented ;)

NX class from Enterprise. I dont know, I think it had something to do with how it resembled, in spirit at least, to the early wagons of the west that gave birth to trains and automobiles. To me thats attractive, new ship that will inspire future ships and new technologies down the road.

The concept of swappable pods in lieu of having to redesign major portions of the ship (like Miranda) in order to perform certain missions would seem to give this ship a high degree of flexibility.

one of the ways us Trekkies / Trekkers get to know one another is to know each others favorite ships, everyone has one, and a specific reason as to why. it does not have to be one of the main ships like the enterprise ( Constitution, Excelsior, Ambassador,Galaxy,Sovereign, or NX) but if it is then lets hear about it.
I know this is silly but the Warbird is a lower Battleship class i.e. its the equal of the Galaxy the Sovereign would decimate it.
My favourite ship is the Sovereign:D:D:D:D Quantum torpedoes=Borg ownage not to mention its absalutely gorgeous sleek design with the manuverability of a ship 1/4 of its size and by far the fastest thing around.

Defiant. It just about remains true to the Federation philosophy of peaceful exploration yet gives the Federation some teeth against unremitting hostile species.
Actually the defiant was the first federation ship to go against its philosophy. It is the first true warship of the federation designed initially as a test bed for the Sovereign weapons/shields/armor systems it is completely designed to take on the borg and wipe them out. This is why the Defiant and the Sovereign as the only Federation ships, to my knowledge, that actually have armor.

My favorite ship class is definatly Galaxy. Specificly, I like the Enterprise-d, but its even.. and in fact waaaaay.... cooler when it has 3 engines in the last episode of TNG. For one, I think the third engine just looks awsome. Also, the extra guns are pretty cool. Now however, I've taken a liking to the Tahoe (http://img155.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tahoeyz3.png). I don't know if Tahoe is the name of the ship or the class... For Fed ships, I like the smaller but powerful vessels: Akira, Defiant, Prometheus.
Ships that would be cool to pilot as a civilian or lower level would be the Federation fighters (seen in the Dominion war), Maquis Raiders, Warp Shuttles (Ferengi, Bajoran, Cardassian, etc.).
Of course the ultimate small team non-combat utility vessel is the Runabout.
I really like the idea of the different sized and cloackable Klingon ships from the B'rel and K'vort to the Vorcha. The old D-7's are cool for nostalgia, but I wouldn't want to pilot one, even though they're seen as late as the DS-9 series.
If I'm piloting a Klingon ship, though, I have to have the Klingon theme playing. I'll put it on mp3 if it isn't in game!

And the Prometheus-class, that has ablative armour too :D
this is why i love trekie forums the discussions are brilliant. Now back to this. The Prometheus is a new Class of ship designed AFTER the Sovereign giving us an insite into future Starfleet design. The Akira and Defiant were development platforms for the sovereign effectively and they were so freaking AWSOME that they became full production classes. The prometheus is the next step in ship design and will probably play the same role as the Akira/Defiant in the Next Federation Battleship although i doubt we will see this vessel in this game because of the way the Sovereign was designed. Unlike the general ships of the line all sovereign class vessels are designed to be refit as deemed necessary and is built with future enhancements in mind. We know what the Enterprise-J looks like but there is only a chance we will see a possible Enterprise - F depending on were the game is set. If i remember correctly from the previous STO site that game is set a few years after Nemesis during a time that has been fortold as the Dark time or something by them pale Andorian psychick dudes (lol i find andorians funny) if this is correct then the rometheus will probably be entering production or atleast during the final phase of testing but the Sovereign will still reign supreme hopefully with a full load of Quantum torpedoes unlike the makebelieve Scimata vs Enterprise fight.

I just hope that the Klingon Vessel library is as big as the federation since it generally tends to suffer, but i am a big fan of the Vor'cha. Does anyone know the name of the prototype Bird of Prey that was a Battleship class vessel I remember it being in various addon's to SFC3

this is why i love trekie forums the discussions are brilliant.
You never know the Enterprise-F could end up being a refit Sovereign. And If I remember correctly Worf said we are out of Photons not Quantum's lol.

Actually watch the movie again and you will notice that Quantum Torpedoes are only used once in a volly and they do significant damage throught the rest of the movie its all Photon Torpedoes you can tell the difference byt the colour Quantum=blue Photon=Red. On your point of the Enterprise-F it is a possibility Although the Enterprise-E was in Dock at the end of nemessis recieving a much needed repair:D:D and maybe the refit already recommended.

I have to say that my favorite starship design has to be the ambassador class. It has that perfect blend of old and new startrek designs. I really do think it was unfortunate that due to budget restraints and the model being damanged (correct me if I'm wrong or if you anyone has more details) that this ship is almost never seen. I've seen a lot written that these ships have already been retired but considering how long mirandas and excelsiors stayed in service I really don't think that this is the case, and that at least some are still in service by the 25th century. I would hope I could command one in STO, even for a short while, since they would be really underpowered by this time, but I still love them anyway. :D
I also love the Akira, Defiant, and Prometheus classes as my second choices, such firepower is such small and manuverable ships is just amazaing. Heaven help you if you ran into a squad of these ships. ;)

I pretty much love the design of all Federation vessels. Although i'd love to see a few new designs. I definately like to see a new version of the Klingon Bird of Prey

I'm not 100% certain but I think i remember reading that the Ambassador was a test bed for the Galaxy Class. It used to be a battleship class vessel but now I think that the remaining ones got reclassified as aheavy cruiser. The reason for not making anymore is that they fill the same roll as the galaxy and are roughly the same Size I think i remember seing one alongside the Enterprise-D in TNG, So its simply better to build the galaxy class which is more powerfull slightly larger and uses more or less the same amount of materials to build. Dont forget money doesnt really mean anything to the federation its simply more efficient. But i know what you mean about the design concept. It's got some of the contetution mixed in with the Galaxy design so past+future.

Hmm..I may have to modify my choice from earlier, after doing a little bit more research. I think I'm going to have to go with a Saber or Nova Class Frigate, currently leaning more towards the Nova Class.

I like the Sovereign class.
The Enterprise E seemed like a natural evolution of the Enterprise line. It looks like it was going fast when its was standing still.
Plus it has one hell of a punch compared to pretty much any other federation ship.

Personally i love the Romulan warbird, it is powerful, sleak, sneeky, and is powered by a Micro wormhole which i find very fascinating.
...
so what is your favorate type of ship? give us your imput
Nerd police have arrived. :D
Don't you mean that a D'deridex class Romulan warbird is powered by an artificial quantum singularity?
Anyway I don't think I have a single favorite class. There are a few I like for various reasons.
My first love was the Galaxy Class
The next model that I built with legos way back in the day was a K'Vort class Bird of Prey.
I was fascinated by the brief glimpses of the New Orleans Class in The best of both worlds.
I also admired the Nebula Class starship.
There definitely is a soft spot in my heart for a D'deridex Warbird
And I like a couple of the newer models like the Akira class.
I agree that the Constitution refit definitely has an Ionic place in Sci-Fi history and still stands up today in design against the newer TrekTech.
And gosh doesen't everyone from the early days of the Star Trek CCG have a soft spot in their heart for that fearsome Husnock ship?

Akira class - she just looks so awesome
Intrepid Class - Blended hulls, looks stream lined, the fact Voyager survived for 7 years in the delta quadrant!
NX class - mini Akira!
Defiant Class - a pure combat ship. the first one. can someone hit star fleet over the head for not thinking about pure combat vessels sooner:D
Sovereign Class - the look is just amazing and is better then the staunchly beige colours on prior ships, and she packs a punch
Nova Class - mini Sovereign.

I always liked the Defiant class. A proper compact combat vessel, no faffing around with families or recreation on this beauty!
Also has a soft spot for the Nova. If I ended up on a science vessel, this would be the ship type I would choose.

I sat here for a long time debating why I liked what ship, and would I be able to make a list that's not 100 ships long. haha. I leave you with my thoughts after long deliberations and many rankings on a notepad.
Prometheus - It's sleek, beautiful and badass
Nova - I saw the schematic of this ship as the pathfinder to the Defiant long before it aired on Voyager, and loved it then; the CGI enhancements made after it aired made it that much better.
Vor'Cha - Of all the TNG ships this was by far my favorite. It looks strong and formidable. Plus the cloak allows you to sneak up on your prey.
Aerie - For those of you who don't recognize this one, it's the S.S. Raven not neccessarily a battleship but obviously sturdy enough to track a Borg Cube through the mess of the Alpha Quadrant and Delta Quadrant
Peregrin - It may be a rust bucket but it's beautiful in it's own way
That wasn't neccesarily in any order, because I really don't know how you can truly compare apples and oranges.

1. Defiant - come on this ship is why we won the Dominion war - small ship - small crew - big losses for its enemies.
2. Akira - you have a squadron of fighters in addition to the 15 or 20 photon torpedo tubes
3. Prometheus - Seems like a neat idea

For me, the good ole' Excelsior class has a very special space in my heart.
When it comes time for the modern era? A cross between the Akira or the Prometheus class ships.... I'm not sure which I like the most.
I can't really pinpoint exactly why. To be honest, I really have to say that the bridges and appearance make the gold for me in most situations. The Akira is soooo far from what Star Fleet uses, it's a refresh in the design protocol I think.
How ever, for utilitarian needs, hands down the Nebula wins.

USS Enterprise E (Sovereign class)... it's a piece of art! And it packs a hell of a punch. Beautiful beautiful ship :P

But Voyager is the only ship with ablative armor generators.
Reinkaos

But Voyager is the only ship with ablative armor generators.
It wasn't originally designed with them though, they only got the armour generators from the future Janeway, and that technology was probably borne out of the "basic" ablative armour that the Defiant got?
I have not an absolute favorite... but one of them is the Romulan Cehlear Class Warbird.

Galaxy Class (ST:Generations set-up)
I suppose it's because I grew up on TNG. There's just something very majestic and ominous about a Galaxy class that makes you just sit back and go "whoa."
Defiant Class
Small, powerful, well-armored, fast...what more could ya want? (Gotta love those pulse phasers)
Sovereign Class
Sleek, powerful, very advanced...the new explorer class...what's not to like?
Akira Class
Medium cruiser...just looks like it'll rip your head of if you mess with it.

Really hard question.I grew up with TNG so I would have to go with the Galaxy, she just had it all style and power. But also one of my favourites is the Akira and the Sovereign she is pure perfection.I like Defiant too but it looks like a fighter to me because of its design, not a standard Trek but very powerfull and usefull ship.

08-02-2008, 09:29 PM
galaxy class, period. preferably generations refit.. even though the ship is "outdated" the design is capable of being upgraded, and why not? it has plenty of room! think of all that space to load her up with torpedo launchers, even more phaser arrays, the newest shielding and ablative armor technologies and with new warp technology newly built galaxy class ships can be equipped to maneuver alot better. point being, with new updates, the galaxy has the potential to to be much more powerful than any ship in the current fleet at any given time...that includes the future timelines. besides all that, no matter what cool ship comes out, there is none that rivals the galaxies sheer beauty. maybe i'm experiencing something like scotty did on the holodeck of enterprise-d. tng was like my first true love, and there'll just never be anything better. the u.s.s. excalibur mod from star trek bridge commander, were it canon, would come in pretty darn close to my favorite but it just gets honorable mention lol. the feds need more big ships, like carrier types.
