I want fast based combat with little downtime. I know it doesn't play into the theme of Star Trek, but to compete in today's fast-paced online marketplace I think it's needed. Basically I want to see battles like those at the end of the Dominion War in Deep Space Nine. I want to command my own ship, and even a whole fleet. I want to crush the puny Federation and...eh. I just want to play the game really heh.

I want a FPS kind of game on the Ground and in your Ship (Please :D).
And in Space i would love a kind of Bridge Commander control Scheme because that game was good for space combat and doing other crazy things.

Not WOW meaning no grinding, gear dependant encounters etc, i want to see skill play a huge part in this game over gear.

I would love a skill-based system, like what SWG used to have, or what Perpetual was supposedly planning for STO.
From what I understand, Perpetual was pretty on-the-money with story and gameplay, they just couldn't come through with the coding end. Now we're running on the Cryptic Engine, hence why they've built up an impressive amount of screenies for us already..
I was drooling for the timeline Perpetual was advertising, so hopefully we're close, I'm content to wait and see what Cryptic's gonna rock us with, really.

indeed and instead of a level-bsaed system we could have a skill-based or a new system :)

I want the exact opposite of WoW, in other words, I want a challenging, though provoking game that's skill based, not quest centric and is a long term playable game that doesn't get boring after 1 year of play.

In order for it to be interesting, I think you would have to have many different ways of playing. Not just combat. There should be everything that a Federation/Empire needs from Government down to interstellar trade.

OK. here is what I think.
I think thay should have VEARY little in the way of armor. Like this. Uniform. standerd combat armor. civ cloths. and other simple things
I think that when slecting a name it is FINE if you have the same name as someone else. I want to be Christan Wingate and I do not give a damn If I find a clone of myself wandering the halls.
I think the FPS eliment should be a not FPS but a third pirson view with a targeting retical when you are holding a wepon. (like in Startrek Deep space nine: the fallen.)

I want ground combat that is fps and player skill based (I know this wont happen but a man can dream), adn space combat that is tactically challenging, can be played very easily while cooperating with others, and is not boring or monotonous. But most oof all I just want a star trek MMO, I have been waiting for this wayyy too long and Cryptic has finally taken up the challenge. For that they have my utmost gratitude.

I wanna see content in this game that will give it an A rating. Something like getting naked for a Betazoid mudbath and other.... stuff.

Purely speculation.
By mandate of the Brookings Institution, the word of world renowned scientists like Steven Hawking and Professor Kaku, The United States Department of Defense, The U.S. Department of Enegy, NASA/JPL, JPL, CERN, Fermi, SETI, etc.etc. will politely 'ask' to be involved with Star Trek Online.
BAD ROBOT, CBS and a Star Trek MMO developer will do a Tie-In before 2012.
By mandate from the above and through the new Star Trek series and MMO, society will be reintroduced to the concepts from the TOS episode Assignment Earth.
Star Trek will facilitate the re-introduction of ancient knowledge from Sumer that in turn will facilitate easing society world-wide into the changes that will occur as we go into 2012 and beyond.
With more kids and adults now interested in games than study it will be easier to merge study into gaming...and by choice, those naturally inclined towards science will come to you. It is better to invest 100 million into a space MMO than spend 100 million to train enough teachers to disseminate into the school systems with 'hopes' of more than a 20% return of candidates in 20 years.
NASA and the above seriously fear there will not be enough highly trained people to support the space infrastructure in the next 20 years. Another alternative MUST Be found.
STAR TREK ONLINE Is one alternative.
Welcome to YOUR future.
"...and the meek shall inherit the Earth."

Purely speculation.

amen to that. mmo's are a deffenate long term thing or should be. but one should be able to quit if need be, and still feel like they can come back to something new.

ohh and inexpensive monthly fees. and multi characters per account is a must don't force us into buying several coppies of the game in order to have a second or third character

At least for 10 more days... 2 hours.... 33 minutes ... 50 secs... 49 secs... 48 secs...

-"Bridge Commander" for capships
-"Generic space sim action" for fighters/shuttles. Well, maybe with auto-aiming or something.
-"Generic MMORPG action" for ground/boarding fights. Or something like Mass Effect.
