View Full Version : Federation vs Empire?

So is this game going to be the Federation vs the Klingon empire? I kinda hope not. If they want PVP in have the Jemhadar (or however it's spelled.. it's way to late) and the Romulans and Cardasians or even the Borg.

I like the Humans and Klingons as allies.

Lol, thought you mean the SW Empire when I read the title, and was coming in to lay down some whoop-ass. But I think I'll save that for if the storyline IS Klingon vs. Federation. The more likely Empire enemy would be the Romulans, but they're pretty crippled after Nemesis. Borg'll probably be the next target, and we may see another galaxy soon. Wonder how 8472-Federation relations are going...

Its possible that the war that was meant to happen in TNG because the Enterprise C was saved happens in STO and maybe thats one of the Plot stories they have in-game.

But i hope not...

It doesnt say that its going to be Feds vs Klinks. But then i quite like the idea of shooting down a few terran ships, all the more glory and honor! :P

look at the banner on top of the forums!!! i tihnk that would show you who the enemy is :D

i think Klingons and the Fed's would still be allies but those who want to fight the Fed's as a Klingon would have to become rouge's like the Dura's sisters

The Klingon's get to fight the Evil Tribbles while the Federation kill Romulan's :D

Well the question should be 'How much time has passed from Nemesis?' and 'How much of Perpetual's work/story/etc is being used by Cryptic?'

If they stay with the timeframe Perpetual was using, I believe it was roughly 20 years AFTER Nemesis. If that's the case, then anything is 'possible'.

I'd prefer to have more than just 2 sides. I think its very boring just to have to choose between the "good" and the "evil"

By the pictures and Banners it would seem it is not to long after Nemesis or else they would not be still using those kind of ships in a full blown battle.

Wow your right i really did see it as a Bird of prey if you think of it heading away from the Federation ships.

I would like to see new classes of Romulan ships as well. I wonder about the prospects for other enemies in the STO universe, though. The Borg is one of my favorite classic enemies, but I wonder how much of a presence they will have if this takes place after the events of Voyager?

As for PvP... Unless some new playable races are announced I don't see much happening yet.

Although i doubt it will happen due to the banner above, but i would really like to see the Dominion Alliance between Federation , Klingon Empire, and the Romulan Empire last and go against a new foe, ( mostly because i love the Romulans and would love to be part of a Romulan ship)

Are the Q still around , I havent watch or read anything since Deep Space 9 , there was big battle is all i remember at the end. I always like the Q, I think storyline involving one of them making everyone fight everyone else would be good.

It would be up to the player to figure out the storyline , stop major conflicts , maybe bring up some of the lesser known species or maybe make it Buck Roger ish , were you have to stop each side from developing super weapons or maybe super soldiers.

They should bring in alot of social elements too , like being able to teach other players skills , forming a clan to fight the Q's pawns , and building holodeck rooms to train in for battle or even sport (or side stories).

i think PvP will be "simulated" at first do some holodeck training with your friends or a specific system where you can spar with other captains and their crews, try and disable their ships. atleast i think that would be a good idea to avoid losing a state of the art star ship to pvp ( at first)

i think later though wars will be a place where you will have a more riskier situation where you can go into combat against another starship and have a chance at actually loseing a starship.

It will not be Federation against Klingon Empire considering the fact that they are more or less allies. If anything, it will be a new race, something from the forbidden barrier and so on. Plenty of galaxy out there for new threats to pop up and the Borg are not exactly gone either.

Glad someone else is paying attention. Cryptic isn't stupid, they know that if they put a piece of artwork up there with Federation ships blowing up Romulans, we're gonna think they will be the enemies in the game.

I believe that I read on the website that this took place some time in the 25th century ... if it were early on in the 25th century, that would be about 20 years or so after Nemesis.

If they are going by what Perpetual was referencing (mind you, STO might be working on a clean slate, and just using some of the artwork from Perp.), there was supposed to be something happening to shake up the status quo.

Personally, I'd like to see a split between various empires, and even the Federation. Whether it was caused internally, externally or a combination of the two, it doesn't matter. Certainly this will bring forth a lot of intrigue and conflict. Not knowing who the true enemy was, trying to secure allies when you're not sure who's on what side.

There are plenty of threats to worry about that can be drawn from any incarnation of Star Trek, such as the parasites that infiltrated Star Fleet Command in the final episode of ST:Nex Generation's first season. Untapped potential that should be concidered, even if it's for later updates/expansions.

The nice thing about having Q in the Trek Universe is that any sort of situation is possible, even a Federation Civil war... all with a snap of his fingers (gets giddy).

thinking of how big the star trek universe is i would expect that they start with 2 "factions".
aka like the titel say, federation vs empire.

and as time goes on they will most likely ither implant with patch or release expansions with more "factions".

we have after all alfa, beta, charlie and delta quadrant.

thats alot of work.

so i would guess that they will start with the normal folks and borg will most likely be something we will see a bit from and to, other wise something we will see in the end since they are powerfull and far, far away.

but definatly gona be intresting to see how it's gona work when they add cardassians and romulan, if its gona be all vs all or if any of em are gona alliance with eachother.

From the Cryptic Studios Website (http://crypticstudios.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=208&Itemid=34):

Powered by the Cryptic Engine, Star TrekŪ Online will be developed for both console and PC formats. With customizable ships and characters from the Klingon Empire and United Federation of Planets, ground, space and shipboard gameplay and unique options for player-generated content set in the Star Trek universe, Star Trek Online is the MMOG that allows you to boldly go where no one has gone before!

Looks like it will be multi-faction.

All we know right now for sure is that we can play as the Klingons and the Federation and i would suspect that the Federation would have other races to choice from inside it.

i heard that there was a possibility of a new race/s (more than one maybe?!) from the *gamma* quadrant.... but that im thinking until crypt say otherwise is hearsay.

i think that for now it will be klingons and humans. then they'll patch in a few more races as they build them up. (on top of all the other bugs that'll probably pop up). but something this big wont just *happen* overnight.......

god im so excited this is actually kicking off! and i think cryptic just want to get something out for us all. and let the rest work itself out in good time.

guys, im pleased to meet you, and ill enjoy the future forum whoring that ill encounter.

kindest regards

I also hope to have dealings with the borg sooner or later...:D:D

that would be the best bet and most likely option to do

and i hope the Borg are in it but rarly used so that it is even more special for when you fight them :)

Q'apla!

Back to topic: I think there will be enough good ideas to implement PvP. Holo decks could be a great idea to bring historical wars and battles to the players like Borg, Dominion and even Klingons.

I think it's great they are adding the Federations biggest ally in the Klingon Empire. It gives players a choice between Star Fleet or serving in the Klingon command. I just hope we don't see a breakdown in relations between the two sides, and we have a common enemy to fight against.

Ryoku
07-28-2008, 08:56 AM
Some people misinterpreted my concern. I find it blatantly obvious that there will be new races as time goes on. It's such a natural fit that I can't imagine them NOT doing that.

What I made this thread for was because I'm concerned that in this game the Federation will be fighting the Klingon Empire. In an interview Jack spoke of his revelation that you cannot add PVP later to a game. And since we know there are only two factions it would be a logical conclusion that those two factions are not on friendly terms.

Now it is possible that there will be other factions available at launch but they are saving those announcements for the future. But working with what is known... I am slightly concerned I'll have to place human corpses on my ships hull.

I cant exactly remember the perpetual discussions, but in the 25th century I think that the Klingons and Federation are still at peace. I havent seen any episodes in a long time so I cant remember the canon they hinted at during the different series.

IanD967
07-28-2008, 09:04 AM
well it was only the alternative universe where Klingons and the Fed's where still at war with the Klingons winning

and PE's storyling did say that they were going to be allies with possible commisions to the other factions ships and such but Cryptic could of easily changed that due to some big event happening just after Nemesis involving the two
