We don't even know how far along STO is so far. The game may not be out to late 2009, or early 2010. Beta shouldn't be mentioned yet. Now CO beta on the other hand........=D

I think both this and the CO site should have "Beta has not yet started! No date has been given! Check back later!" plastered all over the sides of the forums. It still probably wouldn't get the message across though...

Don't assume anything yet. R2 ent. may have had nearly beta quality code ready. I am sure Cryptic will be re working things a bit, probably finish what wasn't done, but I don't know, nor does anyone yet, how much more development time is needed for STO yet.

when the last game development studio was working on Star Trek online they had a regrestration for being part of the development, i would think that list was transfered over to Cryptic Studios once they took over the reigns on the project.

however i would think if this is not the case they will put up a Beta Test regrestration when they are good and ready to implament one.

Doesn't matter how obvious it is that a beta won't be out for a very long time, we're going to ask and wonder anyway. I'm trying to be realistic, and I say beta won't be out until after the upcoming Trek movie is out.

We honestly don't even know how far along Cryptic is in development. After the game footage they'll be showing in 2 weeks I'm sure we'll have a better idea. Until there is official word though its all speculation.

Say what you will, but I'm guessing, that if they're already showing off 'in-game' footage, they've got the game a good ways done.

You don't taunt your fans with 'in-game' footage if you're going to release it 4 years from now.

the game is ready in a range of a couple of months to a year.

I just wanted to know how you know? Enlighten me? Making bold statements like that as someone who does not have any information on when Cryptic plan to start the beta is as outrageous as starting a thread about beta testing a day after Cryptic announce themselves as developers...

Also, I'm assuming that beta is a lot closer than most of us expect it to be. Imho, I'm going to throw Q1 2009/Q2 2009 as a potential beta start time with December 2009/Q1 2010 as a hopeful release date. The reason for this is that they are obviously using Perpetuals game code for the most part and also because CBS have always wanted to get it out around the same time as the new Trek movie. With the new Trek movie coming out on 25th December 2009, what better time to aim for than then? I'm not saying at all that it will be released then but it seems logical (ahhahha).

even though I didn't get what you meant, by reading the CO boards...I did find it absolutly friggin hilarious that they were all so ****ed about the fact that the counter was for STO.

Nothing has ever been stated about where the game code went but seeing as Perpetual have gone completely bankrupt, I'm guessing that when CBS said they secured ALL assets relating to STO, they secured ALL assets to STO. What was said at the time was that Perpetual weren't willing to separate with the game code. A few days later (shortly before Perpetual began to go down the bankruptcy route), I was told that Perpetual may well be separating with the game code. Then, no one heard anything about it.

Now - you have to remember that Triple Point PR sued Perpetual and there was an out of court settlement. It's possible that Perpetual settled to sell ALL remaining assets AT A PROFIT in order to pay back at least some of the money they owed to Triple Point. (They weren't called Triple Point back then). Again, this may not be the case.

If you can provide me with an article that gives a primary source stating that the game code was not transferred, then I'll back down but due to the state of the game currently and the supposed release of game footage in 2 weeks, I'm still inclined to say that game code from Perpetual WAS transferred to Cryptic or, at least, some of it was transferred.

I'm rather amused that it took as long as it did for a beta thread to pop up. I remember when startrek.com and PE first announced that STO was going to be made, there was a beta thread before the devs had any designs or plans on paper, let alone any code or screenshots.
