Fantastic News for Star Trek Gaming. We were all on tender hocks from the news that Cryptic will be taking over Star Trek Online. Every day I would look at that clock counting down the days. Then that day arrived what could only be the best news for the Star Trek gamers that Cryptic will be making Star Trek Online game.

I am looking forward to see the gaming video that they will be showing less than 2 weeks away.

Like all the others, I'm really glad to see that STO didn't die. I think this will be the MMO to finally give WoW a run for its money. The STO universe is just so-o-o huge world-wide, the potential is there for this game to be as big, if not bigger, than anything Blizzard could do.

After sleeping on what I've seen, now that it's the morning after ;). I've noticed a few features that have been added, to the great joy of many a klingon, that perpetual said could not be done. The specific one being a Klingon in the KLINGON EMPIRE. More than one faction! Many an RP Klingon will now be as happy as a tribble in a grain storage unit because of this. This will also sell more copies, a lot of them.

I'm thrilled that the game seems to be in the hands of people who can say "Yes we can!", instead of the constant, "No we can't.", of the past.

Many, many of us wanted P to add ship interiors to all the ships. They said no. I hope Cryptic can say "Yes we can" to that. As well as being able to customize our ships and to engage in large scale multi ship/mutli player combat AND exploration. The ships need to be much more than glorified transports to away missions.

Learn from the past or you will repeat it. Good Luck.

Well I'm kinda late but better late then not at all. I'm really glad to be on board and looking forward for this game to come out. Most likely will be next year probably fall, I'm not sure if there is a date as I haven't read all the post.

This is great news. I was following this game almost from the day they announced it almost four years ago. I joined the former STO.net a while later and followed the game until the day it was canceled and waited with anticipation when they announced that it was sold to a Bay Area developer until Cryptic put up the not-so cryptic countdown timer with the STO artwork in the background, and it was then we all knew for certain that Cryptic was going to announce STO as one of their MMOG's in development.

This is going to be a year of hell, what with Champions Online and Star Trek Online both in development, I will have to get cracking and get those writing projects finished and sold, 'cause I'm not going to want to be bothered with things like making money for at least the first six months or so after both games come out.

Seriously, I will have fun playing STO and finally going boldly where no man, woman or six arm thing from Alpha Centauri has ever gone before.

What a great day it was following the countdown on Hailing Frequency Live (supported by Lotus Fleet, CUGS, Mindwipe studios, Chris Jones Gaming, OntheAirTV).

Starting early in the day we went live at the top of the hour, every hour, bringing in some of the biggest community leaders and modders involved with Star Trek gaming to share their hopes for Star Trek Online. It was electric.

'Historic' was the word of the day and everyone was feeling it!

That evening Dr. Rick Sternbach (Sr. Illustrator for Star Trek) and Derek Chester (Star Trek:Bridge Commander, Legacy, Tactical Assault. D.C. Fontana's writing partner) also joined the community live in the final hours of the countdown to field personal and Star Trek Online related questions. It was magical ( We learned that Rick Sternbach, Derek Chester, D.C. Fontana and David Gerrold are all interested in helping Star Trek Online if needed and will make themselves available anytime...just call).

As the timer counted down in the final moments, the community was glued and roaring!

Thanks for launching 'exactly' on time! What an amazing day.

I as part of Hailing Frequency and the top brass of Lotus Fleet will be in Las Vegas from Aug 5-11 to cover the convention, the closing of the Experience, Star Trek gaming and of course...to be there to cover Star Trek:Online 'Revealed' with Cryptic (hopefully most of it 'live').

We're hoping the entire week is just as magical as our one day was watching the Cryptic Countdown!

I have been a fan since I was a young boy getting permission to stay up late to see the original series, and have stood by seeing every movie(at least twice) and have seen every episode of TNG, DS9, and most of Voyager(unfortunately I have only seen 3 episodes of Enterprise due to my work schedule) So now that the game is finally going to come out you can bet your *** I will be there.

This is awesome. I do not know the details of whats planned that we as players will actually get to do in the game, can only hope for loads of stuff incl. flipping open a communicator and saying '1 to beam up' .. . .

Side note. All betas since 1996 have been 1/2 full of people writing scripts and bots to start gold selling, auto leveling and PLeveling. I hope at least 1 mmo, THIS ONE can target each and every one and automatically delete them all one after another as they spawn. I have been run out of every mmo online, ones I have paid a monthly subscription to play by these 'hackers' non stop barrage of whispers tells and zone shouts as well as them having 5 to 15 automated characters in every zone so 'real people' cannot level or play or get loot.

That is my number 1 concern.

Leaving aside just how unfortunate and unpleasant the abject collapse of Perpetual was, I know that I felt a lack of fulfillment at the notion that what Star Trek Online promised was just one of those boxes that can't be checked off in life. Those intervening six months - was that all? - served as a necessary reminder that this is a story which people deserve to be able to experience, and have waited a very long time to do so. It's no small irony that the kickoff is going to take place at the site of Star Trek: The Experience. If done with care, dedication, and creativity, this project can serve as a kind of a passing of the torch for those seeking to "experience" all that Trek is.

Been waiting for A Star Trek MMO to be made for a long time, had been watching the previous Developer closely and was saddened when the events happened. Now things are back on track i'm eager to see how things turn out.. I've played various MMORPG's over the last 6 years but in no way has any of them peaked my interest like Star Trek online (besides the announcement that KotOR online is being made). Having been a Trek fan since the first days. My advice to the devs is do your research, I have to say that STAR TREK gamers are by far the most critical and hard to please of any group. Each of us has there slightly own idea and spin on how we think the universe should be. And there are the purists who no matter what you do are gonna give ya grief about it. With the reinvention of the Trek universe with the new Star Trek movie coming up with if the creators get it right will be a more BATTLESTAR GALACTICA style of the TREK universe. Flawed real people making and doing great things. LOL kinda like real life huh.

As of right now according to the Vimeo video, Star Trek Online is going to be exculsive to Windows PC's. So Mac users will need to install either XP or Vista. Unfortunately, XP has no support continuing. You can still download updates, but you can not purchase a copy if you bought a computer without Operating System software.

There is going to be closed beta invitations to the forum users first. It is unknown when they will be passing them out.

Hello all! I'm excited to hear that Cryptic has pulled STO from the mothball limbo! I've been a long time player of City of Heroes/Villains and sincerely believe that if there is a studio out there who can capture in a game the flavor of the Star Trek Universe, Cryptic is it.

I'm extremely happy with the mention of the Gorn as a playable race. And I'm hopeful this game's version of the Gorn follows the 'non-canon' history of the Star Fleet Battles game. In fact, as far a ship combat and some history goes, the devs could do much worse than SFB as a resource. (hint, hint) ;)
