Every Solid Gaming Network has a set in stone release date of Feb 2nd 2010. So why hasnt Cryptic announced it? Is this just media Hype? We all know release dates can be pushed back, but now its on TV. You don't announce a release date unless you are very sure. And CRYPTIC hasnt announced it. Didnt the Boss say we would hear it on STO first? DONT FALME IF ITS A REPOST, just make a link.

Yeah, this has been posted quite a bit. All I can say is, what is the big deal with the release date? the game will come out when it comes out. It will not come out any earlier or later just because people will it to be (no one is Q here). So just relax, and wait patiently for the game. All you are doing is driving yourself crazy looking for conspiracy theories or stuff like that.

Well, if you'll notice, all of the recent "Feb 2nd confirmed" news stories say "according to Eurogamer". So they all read that story and decided their site can't be left out in the dark on this, and used it as their source.
Cryptic has denied acknowledging this to Eurogamer, which is odd. But, like the devs have said, when the date is confirmed, you'll hear about it here first...

okay okay ... Seriously. I don't give a darn about a date/the date. I would hope they would go through closed beta (open beta) and get all the bugs out before they release it tho. And I am not going to give myself a stress attack over a date. So lets take that out of the conversation for starters.
We hear leaks all the time. But seriously, if STO announces a interview on the STO website which contains the "release date". And Cryptic covers it up, what are we to think? Lets get down and dirty and stay focused. CRYPTIC needs to put their foot down and confess. (Not to get myself in trouble now) But I would really like to think we hear it from the source before we do on rumors..

The Eurogamer article got it wrong, I think it was also Eurogamer who said that the game was in open beta back in August or early september.

Actually most Solid Gaming Network get it wrong and make multiple guesses depending on what the retailers guess. Honestly it should only matter when Cryptic says it and they have already stated plenty of times (hello search button) that they will announce it when they feel confident the game is ready.

I would love the release to be tomorrow but I want a nice stable game to start with, I know there will be some problems in the 1st week or so but Let them test and retest. I do hope Feb/ March is the release date but if not I will deal.

I think Cryptic should be praised for ignoring the hype of 'release dates' and are focussing on getting the product right!
Let the "insiders" and "sources" continue to drum up stories on the internet to get the STO community all amped up.
They're all still talking about the game anyway, and I'm sure drumming up future sales.
Good Job Cryptic for being professional and focussing on your product first.
Beta is beta. It is where the real hard work begins.
I look forward to the game, and in the end we all are here in the community.
Release the game when you're ready to put your stamp on it. We'll be here to help when the beta gates open up.

Hum... I don't think so. It's not solely up to Cryptic to decide when to release it. It is up to the investors (in this case, Atari probably). They are spending money developing this game. There are what, 60 developers working on this? They are not working for free. They have to be payed their salaries. So every day the game is delayed, it incurs a heavy loss for the investors.
I'm sure there is a release date out there, and it's not "when we feel it is ready".

The reason Cryptic hasn't put up a release date is most likely because they are uncertain when the product will be finalized. It has entered closed beta, this is true, but this can take a very long time. I find it realistic to believe the game won't be out until late spring (april, may) or early summer (june).
They are still polishing it and adding final touches, probably still making some content as well. I will gladly wait another half-year if this means I get a very good game in return.

Its not heavy losses. Its incrimental increase in the budget. Which will runover the original budget. If the quality of the product is in trouble many investers with trusted developers are willing, if a little upset, to increase the budget if the prospects of increased returns in the long run.

Yeah, but that depends on how much attention they pay to the quality people. The people that make the decisions for the game may or may not even be interested in the game itself. And that is why low quality products hit the markets every day.
Personally, I can wait another 6-9 months for the game, I would actually prefer to in order to get a better game, but I'm not the one calling the shots.

Well if you all remember they said In Q1 of 2010 that can be from Jan to Mar and Andy in the interview said open beta starting mid jan with release mid-late march there is your answer.

Actually most substandard games are caused by rush jobs thanks to the publisher (usually the only investors in a not well trusted developer) wanting the product out at a certain window they geared up for. Most great games have been relatively unwatched by the publishers (blizzard, valve, id, gearbox(look at the massive graphic overhaul they did in Borderlands and the success), etc) because they know they can trust the developer to make a good product and a very nice return on investment.

One reason could be the fact that they had to delay CO's launch, and if you dont give a launch date, then theres technically no "delay".

That date stared with Game Stop an has post from one site to another as fact but most of the site are not looking into how that site got the date so they just take it as fact an pass it on.

CO was pushed back 2 times an like you posted if they say no date then they will not have a push back of the game as far as we would know.

How a lot of the press works nowadays:
Website A reports a story
Website B reads Website A and essentially mirrors the story with no research of their own
Website C reads Website A or B and also mirrors the story (best case scenario they just link it)
Magazine A hears of the story on Website A B or C and after reading everything they can find on the web about it, publish a story echoing it. This article will often ignore anything to the contrary
Magazine B hears of the story and actually researches it, finding no evidence that it's true they either refute it (which most people ignore as it's either not in the majority or isn't news) or just ignore it (as lack of news isn't news)

it is a common game company trick....all of the companies play it.
if your forum figures out something you don't want released....deny it and tell them to wait
for the official word.
Bioware is famous for it..thier forums knew the next game was Star Wars a year before they announced
it. :p
retailers have WAY more pull
walmart asks when is the release? cryptic says ...we don't want to give that out
walmart says....ok, we will just fit you in when we get around to it
are retailers a fairly source of the 'current best guess on release date' pretty much

For release dates I rarely trust gamer sites or retailers as they're always making best guesses or pulling numbers out a hat.

I just pre-ordered it on Amazon which also says Feb 2nd 2010. They've been pretty reliable about release dates in the past. That being said as much as I'd like it to be out on Feb 2nd, I'd rather it be a quality program and wait. But as the thread starter's inferred question is why hasn't cryptic/atari debunked the Feb 2nd date, or released an official statement in regards to it?

Agreed. It also doesn't help that "Every Solid Gaming Network" has been quoting and referencing the Eurogamer article as opposed to doing the research themselves.

Kind of funny how these guys "Know!" what date it will be released when the beta has only just started. How things go during the beta kind of sort of has an impact on when the game happens to store shelves. That's why they call it "testing", isn't it? Putting the game out on a wider range of PC builds, looking for problems in their servers, code holes nobody has happened to blunder into just yet. And if Cryptic acknowledges a "target date", (as in when they *hope* to release the game, if all goes well), then we'll see an absolute scatstorm of tantrums if they have to push it back even one day because they found a problem. "I'm cancelling! I'm suing! Cryptic PROMISED!!! that the game would be out on Day X! They're unprofessional! They lied! I'm suing!"

I'm not really in a rush to find out the release date - whenever they announce is fine. But I hope the delay is because they might be pushing the release date back, and want to finalize the details before going official with the news. More development time is fine with me if it means a better game. I mean I've waited this long for a Star Trek MMO, a little bit longer won't matter.

Perhaps, since it is so close to release, that Crypic is being pressured into giving a tentative date to retailers. But if they aren't actually sure of the date, they may not want to give a solid date to the close-nit community, ie. on the forums.
If they release a date to us and it gets pushed back, there will be tons of griefing about it here.
This game has been in production for years, a month or two more isn't a bother. I wish everyone would just chillax and wait it out. It'll be out eventually.

You could be right about the community freaking out if it got pushed back. However this is nothing new to the game community. Games get delayed all the time.
Personally, I would be kind of excited if it got pushed back. More time to work on it. But that may be just me.

Same as much as I want to play this game it doesn't seem like its getting enough time for all the TLC a MMO needs to be ready to go live. A delay would be welcome.

Eh, that's not really fair. It's not Cryptic's responsibility to clean up the mess that irresponsible press outlets make for themselves. Gods know they're manifestly stretched thin on the publicity as it is - sometimes I wonder if they actually have a PR department or are just tossing all the work on some poor intern in the corner instead.

The Star Trek: Legacy effect at work. There's "ready" and there's "workable but we'll need a patch or two I'm sure" and then there's "Stuff the dvds in boxes, I don't care what's on them, we'll publish the game later." But a company can only pull that stunt so often. Unless it's microsoft.
A smart MMO developer will remember that it's not just selling boxes, but keeping people happy enough to not just keep p(L)aying, but also recruit friends to jump on.
HAHAHAHA! Beautiful. Just beautiful. :D
