Hello everyone,

At the moment I just run Linux at home, although I'm about to order a HTPC that comes with Windows 7. I figured I'd go for that one rather than a Linux alternative as I'm hoping it will allow me to run STO (buying an operating system for one game - crazy, right?).

I know there aren't any official system requirements out yet but it would be great if someone (maybe a dev) could advise whether this is likely to run STO before I waste a load of money. I'm not talking about at top res or anything, just playable at a half decent standard. I have read other posts here that say you're trying to keep it open to a wide range of hardware so I'm hoping the answer is 'yes' (or, 'probably'!).

Anyway, the main specs are:
Dual core Atom 1.6Ghz
Nvidia ION (I believe this is a 9400M)
2GB RAM

In case you're wondering it's the Asus EEE Box 1501 - which looks pretty sweet, so long as I can run STO!

Hello, and welcome to the Star Trek Online forums!

The devs have said that STO's system requirements will probably be the same as Champion Online's. Link to CO's system requrements here (http://champions-online.com/node/88150).

If you'd like more information about STO, you might find these threads helpful:

Thanks for the quick reply and the links.

I thought the CPU might be a problem. I've been out of PC gaming for a while - will it refuse to run on a 1.6 or can I just expect it to be a little slow?

The Atom core is meant for netbooks and low demand operations (ie web browsing, spreadsheet, and movies). Its definitely not for gaming. I can tell you with a 100% certainty that it will not run STO in any acceptable frame rate. You really should look at something a little better maybe from dell (or browse newegg.). Also the ram is under powered at 600mhz and its only 2gigs. Which for Windows 7/Vista is just their requirement.

Woot system requirments are a breeze. Of course I would have upgraded my pc if I had to there is nothing I mean nothing that will keep me from STOL. Maybe I should build a specially PC just fro STOL woot.

Actually, those specs look like they're in the neighborhood of my machine, which can run CO at mid-level settings (no shadows though) with only minimal occasional stuttering.

Based on screenshots alone, I'd guess that STO's overall reqs are gonna be a few steps above CO, despite being based on the same engine. So personally I'm looking to upgrade. If I were in your place, and already planning to spend money on a system, I'd aim a bit higher.

I'd prolly pump another $100-200 into the processor, and get another 2gb of RAM.

My thoughts exactly. The biggest problem in that computer is the Atom processor. Its meant for power savings for the most part.

Unless youre running an atom processor chances are your processor has way more cache and a much higher bus speed.

I'm going to assume you're planning on running a high-end 1.6 ghz atom, meaning youll only have a bus speed of 533MHz and a cache of 512 KB. Theres no way a processor with those specs is going to be able to run STO. Even Champions online requires a "1.8GHz Dual Core".

i have that same setup for my HTCP, built it my self from a zotac mobo.... it works great for home theater, but i'm gonna be really surprised if it will run STO smoothly. The atom (even with thedual core and hyperthreading) is not a great powerhouse. the only reason it will do HD video is from the ion gpu

so im sorry but im gonna say no..... great choice for a HTPC though congrats
