Since the only guidelines that we have to the system requirements of STO are those of CO, I think that it's reasonable to assume that we'll also see "Broadband Connection" as one of the requirements for STO.

Now I know it's outdated but I'm still on a dial-up connection. My question is if I'll be locked out of the game completely on my connection, or if I'll still be able to access it and just have a hell of a time downloading the patches?

You'll be able to play. Not well, but you will be able to.

On a side note: Dial up still exists?

You wont be able to play. This game is broadband or better only.

mabye, if you however get into a busy sector... you while warp very badly (pun intended).

You would be surprised

I'm an onsite service tech, and the number of people spending $20.00 on dial up when they could get the slowest broadband (which is still way faster than dial up) for about the same price is beyond my comprehension.

Sadly for a variety of reason not everyone is in a position to get broadband of any kind. I know here in Australia it's a big issue especially in new housing estates where the phone lines aren't ADSL compatible and there is no new fibre optic cable being laid.

I'm pretty sure you will be able to play. If this was a FPS game then i would say don't bother because they are very lag sensitive but a MMO isn't. You might rubber band some but general PVE play you will be fine

well given the way dial up and broadband work you should still be able to connect but the entire game will be extremly laggy and patch days will be patch weeks.

What country do you live in? a few of my friends have mobile broadband for there PC's in the form of a USB dongle they can top up like a mobile phone (since its esentialy the modem and signal generator of a mobile phone in a USB connector)

How well does satellite work for online gaming? I almost had to get the service due to no broadband at the house, but went with verizon broadband instead, which is mediocre at best.

I played wow for 3 years on IDSN 64k. I tanked most raid content in some agressive guilds. When I switched to Broadband I didn't notice too much of a difference.

FYI... satellite inst that reliable... especially in bad weather conditions like rain/snow.
