Why do you guys want to collect non-reals answers on form application?
Force to select a Windows version as operational system is a good way to get the wrong picture and that is unwise.
I had selected Windows XP Home because as a general rule, I let my Wine set as Windows XP, but I don't use it as OS.
Just change the option to What operational system do u use, and add Linux, Mac and Others! Is easy like that to get more real answers.

I understand that for a game company is preferable to support the most used OS, because is expensive to support more than one. But think about again! You guys are not making a game. You guys are making a Star Trek game, and that make the things a little bit different.

I know that for sure: Not every Star Trek fan use Linux, but every Linux user is a Star Trek fan.

That is something to think about. And no, I 'll never infect my computers with some windows crap variant just for play games. I use Linux and I'll keep using it.

If you guys don't have the resources to build a Linux client for your game, don't do, but at least think about in enter in touch with the Wine developer team to assure compatibility. And please, change the form... I don't like to be forced to lie!

Thanks!

They can't support Linux. It would be a nightmare. There are so many variations, of so many distributions. A logistical disaster waiting to happen there.

Supporting wine would also be illogical because it's not Wine the game would run in, It's XP. I think your answer of XP iis not a lie. You run the game in Windows XP.

but every Linux user is a Star Trek fan.

Really? How does that work, secret handshake before purchase?

Supporting Wine would actually be quite easy. All that would be required is answering a few questions from the developers from time to time.

I think it's a fine idea; very little work, for much excellent publicity in a crowd that's full of Trek fans.

Why would they let you enter an OS on the form that will not even allow you to play the game?

That would be completely redundant...

I'm all for multi-platform and OS support, but it's not there for a reason.

Supporting Wine would be easy, but It's not Wine the game is running in, it's XP, hence, supporting XP. :)

EDIT: After more thinking, I changed my mind. Having options like "Windows XP Pro in Wine", might not be too bad an idea for an information point of view, but it would like pose other issues.

CO works fine on XP. It just requires a windows operating system.

Yeah, I was able to run CO on XP as well on my old computer fine... with the lowest settings while still getting a poor framerate, but that was hardware limitations. It will run.

I've asked for beta invitation... I gonna try to run it in Wine, on CrossOver Game and Cedega if necessary. Maybe I can even try under VirtualBox, but it wold be use Windows XP any way, so I dislike that option, at least wold be in a VM machine. I really really wanna play it!

Let's do that, someone give the invitation and I can try on all that and come back here to say if it works or not. Pretty good idea ah? :)

If you guys wanna a fight... I prefer to do that with phasers and photons torpedoes! :D

Considering most stuff, especially games, come out for windows, I don't know why linux users just don't dual boot. Then they wouldn't have to worry about this stuff. If you are able to install and run linux then i'm pretty sure that means that setting up a dual boot is no problem for you. I suppose it can be a hassle to constantly have to restart and switch OS's, which is why i'm usually to lazy to dual boot, but if you are running linux, yet constantly running wine, then why not.?

Gonna be playing a windows game for hours at a time? Then might as well.

I personally use teh devil's MS OS, but I think this is probably why some (a lot? most?) linux/unix users don't like to run windows games. At least, the ones I know that use unix don't want to use Windows at all.

(I made my peace with MS a long time ago around the Win 3.1-3.11 days. It's not great, but I mainly only game and use the net, and it works for me. I just usually hold off for 6 month to a year before I change to a new version because they have the great habit of rushing their OS out too early.)

My experience is, the linux users I know are extremely closed minded about Windows, and think that if they do anything that supports MS, they are just hurting their cause.

I equate them to many groups we are all familiar with ... they are obsessed, and can't be reasoned with, and eventually they feed off off each other until their very purpose in life is their cause which starts translating to a complete hatred for anything or anyone that challenges their position.

They've made it so personal and emotional, that if you invalidate or challenge their cause, you are effectively invalidating them, in their mind.

I'll take a Mac fanatic over a linux fanatic any day of the week.

As always, there are exception, I'm painting in broad strokes here.

At least according to Amazon pre-order, It will run on XP, Vista, and 7. Although I am assuming that XP won't have the same graphics as a similar system running 7 because of DX9 vs. DX10. As for Vista, I do not even want to contemplate that nightmare... the reason I am upgrading to 7 before the game ships.

I agree completely. I am definitely not a fan of MS, especially since Vista. But it is the way of things in the world, I cannot change them, most software is developed for this operating system, so I use it, learn it's quarks, and how to avoid as many pitfalls as possible. All in all XP wasn't that bad, and from what I hear neither is 7. But there are many, many close minded Linux fans, and to a much lesser extent Mac fans.

If you want to run the software, you have to use the Windows operating system. My best reccomendation for these people is to buy a top of the line Mac, and use boot-camp to install windows and stop complaining.

You better be careful ... they're gonna revoke your guild-card and send Luigi to have a talk with you.
