Hello everyone,

I did do a quick search for the word MAC but did not come across anything specific.

I realise that the game will be released on PC's mainly but is there any info at all on whether or not MAC formats of this game are being developed or perhaps considered for the future if at all?

I know I would love to see the game available for MAC's and I am just wondering if perhaps anyone else would want MAC support?

Nope, no Xbox, no PS3, no Mac. PC only

Considering there isn't even a Linux (woot ubuntu) or Mac version of Champions Online I wouldn't hold out to much hope on it being done for Star Trek. You can always bootcamp it.

There's been some reports of eventual console release (if they can work out the details with Sony and/or Microsoft), but so far Cryptic has no intention of releasing a Mac client for STO.

This could change, obviously. It's just not currently the case.

This is a real shame, perhaps if us MAC users started a petition ? hehe

Isn't there a Windows emulation mode on Mac? I never used a mac so I don't know what it supports or whether it exists :o

There's been acouple threads on this already. Bottom line if you really wanna play STO on your mac get boot camp and run windows on your mac. Hardly ideal but if a mac verson of this game is coming out it won't be for quite some time.

Its more like they can install windows onto a mac machine using OSX's bootcamp mode. I hear it works rather well. Still wouldnt buy a mac :)

What you do is first you make sure you've got the necessary hardware drivers on a disk, then use the Bootcamp utility to partition off a chunk of your hard drive, reformat one of those partitions, buy a copy of Windows, and install it on the reformatted volume. Then you reboot whenever you want to run the app.

no emulation needed to boot into Windows and run it like any other Windows PC.... which will be the main way at first to run on Mac hardware, until unofficial ports for OSX are working.

As I say this to all fellow Mac users:

Run Windows via Boot Camp. I can't speak for everyone, but I do and it runs fine. I have my Mac-side for my graphics and office programs and my XP-side for games. Easy day.

I've given up hope for Mac Games when it took them 4 years to port Rome: Total War. -_-

I normally never rant on anyone for this, as I think its petty. You could have used the search function to find this out sure. But I understand needing to post it without having to search through old threads and getting the answer direct.

What I dont understand however is posting a thread where there is ANOTHER one just like it that was JUST posted on the SAME page right there in front of you.

Perhaps you should have taken your own advice the other post about Mac support was made after the OP made this one...

Next time use search yourself...

I hope you mac users get the game before the console users. Wow seems to have done pretty well with that strategy.

Eh. I'm on a Mac and I love Champions Online. Bootcamp is my friend, and it's a way of putting my work-related stuff out of reach for a little while while I play.

That said, I have Windows 7 on order and an upgrade to the new version of Parallels, which among other things is supposed to ramp up support for gameplay. So, I'll experiment both with Champions and, when I have the opportunity, STO to see if I can get it working acceptably in that form.

If I can, I'll mention it here. Beyond that -- since the advent of Boot Camp I've just not been sweating the whole "will X come out for Mac" question. As far as I'm concerned, if it comes out for PC, it comes out for Mac.

Do I understand correctly that there will be no Mac version? Huh? Why would anyone develop a game thats only available to those people that are willing to buy Microsoft stuff? Weird. I hope it isnt true. If it is true, then there is one less possible player... me :(

Really, there's only two ways to do a Mac version right now:

A) develop an entirely Mac based client. WoW did that (almost certainly by house-writing an emulator). It would greatly increase development time to do this.

B) recruit Transgaming to incorporate Cider technology into Cryptic's products, the same way EA now does with Spore, the Sims 3 and other games (and closer to home, Paragon does with City of Heroes). This greatly reduces the development time, but involves outsourcing and coordination.

One of the problems with B is that a good amount of the codebase that Cryptic is using in their engine calls resources that haven't been made workable under Wine or Cedega yet. As a result, a hypothetical Mac client would need to first have a lot of virtualization work be done by Transgaming. This is almost certainly not trivial, so some of the time savings would be lost.

I suspect that once Cider is made more mature and becomes capable of handling the bits that Champions Online/STO don't like, we'll see overtures made to Transgaming.

(And who knows -- maybe the standard WINE project and/or Crossover/Crossover Games will get CO/STO support going in the meantime!)

If you have an intel mac, buy a copy of windows and run bootcamp. You then have a mac or a pc. It works fine I have Vista running on my imac right now and it is just like any other pc. Every game I have installed on it runs fine. If you do not have an intel based mac you are out of luck and honestly your machine is obsolete.

Champions Online runs great on my Mac Pro bootcamped into either XP or Windows 7. (It looks way better in 7.)

I still wish for a Mac client though. WoW, Eve and CoH/V all have Mac versions that run pretty well. CoX is Cider, and I'm kinda of impressed at how well it works. Games that have Mac versions allow me to switch back and forth between work and play more frequently. :)

the good news is... there are hacks now that let Champions Online work under Wine... for Linux or Mac OS X.

the bad news is, its a pain in the butt to set up.

If I cared to actually buy the game (CO), I'd use the hacks to make an unofficial port anyone could just run without having to set it up... its not too hard. Maybe if they make a free playable 14 day trial version or something I could try...

but all that aside..its brings great hope for making an unofficial port of STO to Macs, since this is a game I'll definitely buy if i can get it ported so I don't need Windows.

You can easily install Windows on a Mac. That is, if your Mac is one that is less then 3-4 years old ( roughly, I think )

If you know your way around computers, you should google your way into Windows on Mac.

Ive done it a couple of times, and it is quite easy.

But beware, it isn't really as stable as a windows system on a windows made computer... But it'll run.

And if your Mac is good enough, it'll run STO for sure.

I assume you're talking about running Windows in an emulator on a Mac. If you're running Windows in bootcamp on a Mac, then it's about as stable as it gets.
