View Full Version : Should the 1st expansion have us entering Borg Space?

A. I am still hoping the Romulans are the 1st expansion faction, lets not loose sight of this #1 requrest in my book.

B. Hopefully we will see at least a bridge view option with this expansion.

And...........

C. Deeper back stories with new types of equipment for the current factions.

Now having said that, I would like to know. Will we be entering Borg Space in the 1st expansion?

IMO it might be a great idea. It would open up untold stories, and maybe you would have a reason to also include the Dominion or other races as your 4th faction.

So what do you guys think about this idea?

A Borg space invasion would be cool. I also wouldnt mind invading fluidic space, and getting it on with species 8472.

I guess going into the Delta Quadrant would be interesting. Probably a lot of hate directed at the Federation thanks to Voyager saving the Borg. There would be some dipolomacy missions in that.. though I would imagine it would end up with them trying to destroy your ship. Maybe it would be a boost to Klingons? Since they could go there and be a true neutral.

Looking ahead to the expansion is ok, but I am more concerned about everything that will be taking place at launch.

As for an additional faction, I am up for about anything they decide to do.

Incursions into Borg space (or fluidic space for that matter) should only occur for us if Cryptic decides to stick with the Voyager idea of the Borg. That being that they are low danger, 'threat of the week' comedy relief and not to be portrayed as an actual threat in any way. You casually launch raids against those whom you know cannot seriously threaten you. Not against powers than could steamroll you into oblivion.

I hope not, the Borg should be saved, making them (what they should have been saved for) the ultimate bad guys. By MMO tradition, if u introduce them in a playable area they become trivial, unless you want the dev's to build an entire area of the game off limits to any individual who doesn't want to die in 30 secs, or where special borg invasions of the Alpha / Beta Quadrants become meaningless as everyone has already spent hours killing borg cubes.

Also, as an aside, the borg originated from the Delta quadrant, the Dominion from the Gamma, any attempt to introduce 1 as a result of an incursion by the other would be entirely artificial, and somewhat difficult to believe. Just my humble opinion tho.

Realy whats the point to bringing this up now?
The game is still in closed beta....
Besides that any expansion would be at least a year after launch (and launch which is at this point set around febuary next year (from what I've heard on the net) which means any expansion would be around the first quarter of 2011)
New playable factions might be added in smaller patches but I don't expect to see them for at least a year after launch also.

Let's wait and see how many are still playing a year down the road. LOL!

I think their first expansion should include all the things people wanted at launch they aren't getting because Cryptic kept saying "later, after launch".

Now, if their quarterly content gives us all that stuff ... then sure.

But do you really expect Cryptic to pass on the chance of the the first "paid for" expansion to not be all about ship interiors? Half the people here want them ... why would they pass on the opportunity to charge for them?

Have you forgotten? They said the Romulans were the first expansion. Then either the Dominion or the Cardassians.

Maybe not the first expansion, but I'd like to see it at some point.

This argument about how we shouldn't be able to go to Borg space because it cheapens them in some way is baseless.

You should be able to enter Borg space if you want at your own peril. If you do anything but tread lightly, then you should expect to get crushed unless you escape or are incredibly lucky.

They should not be displayed as some random force of nature that just appears at random with no point of origin or representation on the map. Canon that everyone likes to quote has clearly shown that this is not the case and that the Borg are still a force to be reckoned with.

True, but I could see the Delta Quadrant being 3 or 4 expansions down the road. Because going into Borg Space would be like the equivalent of a Level 30 person going into a Level 50 zone in a fantasy genre MMO.

Going into Borg space really should be a fleetradisode. Extremely dangerous space unless you follow what Voyager did to them. I still say it would be some compelling gameplay if you have all the Delta inhabitants ****ed off at the Federation for saving the Borg.

Agreed, but do you really want the dev's to waste an entire expansion cycle building an entire zone where only the mad, foolhardy, or massively equipped fleet has the courage to enter? Maybe yes, cos that would be awesome, but from a practical standpoint, difficult to justify 1 would think

I agree but if they charge for ship interiors they need to set proper expectations. When people think Ship Interiors some think it will be combat from their bridge, seeing BO's at duty stations, the bridge being boarded by Klingons if your shields fail, etc. If they do that much work to the game then yes, they should charge for it and I would gladly pay for this level of detail.

However, we know Cryptic is trying very hard not to turn this game into a simulation. So the thinking above about ship interiors is incorrect. From various dev comments we can gather that the ship interiors they have planned are player housing. Just rooms that you can customize and decorate - only accessible from Space Dock or out of combat. Sure, you can invite your buddy to hang at your crib during space dock but that's it. Once you launch into space it will only be the normal 3rd person view - no interiors available. Something like this would be no charge no matter when it was added IMO. And something like this will disappoint some people (just like player run crews) if they don't set expectations.

Not an entire expansion just on the Borg, no. But I would like to see them created in their entirety as part of the the Delta Quadrant whenever it becomes a part of the game. All of the other Delta Quadrant races and places should be included with it as well.

IMO the first expansion should focus on two things.

1. The Romulan faction: making them a fully fledged playable race with as much content as the other sides.

2. The Klingon faction: a huge update to the PvE content putting them on par with the Federation.

I'll just leave it up to Cryptic regarding expansion packs.

The first expansion should be Klingon PVE Content.

The Delta quadrant should deffinatly be an addon, and yes to the post above their should be a few quests that involve neelix.
