I really hope the Borg don't become a playable race. If they do they're gonna have to be balanced with the rest of the factions which'll totally nerf them. It'll be like what Voyager did to the Borg. I don't want that, I want to see the Borg as they're supposed to be, a terrible, ridiculously powered enemy. If the Borg are playable that'll never happen.

Yeah sure why not and I’ll get to play as Species 8472 and I’ll purify your Borg butt back to hell…. And any other playable faction out there…..

In that interview, they said there is no shortage of ideas and that currently they concentrate on Federation and Klingons but what race will be playable next is anybody’s guess.

Why does everyone assume that she was the only Borg queen. Are the Borg not like a colony of Bees,each bee hive has their own queen,maybe it's the same with the Borg. If that doesn't work,theres always time travel,she is from the past.;) or maybe they had a backup queen in reserve somewhere.Either way,the Borg should never be a playable race,that is a horrible idea. The next playable race should be the Romulan,then the Cardassian in my opinion.

It has little or no effect on the Borg at all it works like the Internet when one server is down another takes over. The same is with Borg queen when Picard mentioned that Borg cube was destroyed with her on board she told him how small and insignificant he become. In ST as I recall Queen was killed like 3 times and nothing happened to the Borg. 1st in TNG, 2nd in ST movie (First Contact) and 3rd in ST Voyager TV series.

Well there was discussion about playable Borg a long time ago.

Most people don't want it, because it would degrade the Borg. And also some argue it would be difficult or even impossible to mimic the Borg Collective.

The only possibliity is if it's written that it's a faction of the Borg that's seperate from the Collective, given special missions to conquer species.

I really think he said Borg just because that was the that was the faction that was asked about. If the interviewer had said Cardassians the quote probably would have been something like:


"There is no shortage of ideas from the IP. Certainly, we have considered Romulan, Star Trek Online Cardassians, Dominion, and more."

Also I think the key word to remember is considered. Meaning they are looking into it, not that it's being worked on.

On a side note it really makes me happy how when asked this question they always mention the Dominion along with the Romulans. Which should give you indications of their plans more than anything.

Also I don't see playable borg being that hard to do. If you think about it even as the other factions we aren't playing as individuals for the most part but ship crews. Though I do think cubes or at least the raid level ones should be off limits. This could work since you still have a fair number of ships that could be used.

LOL, Well they said that not only Borg but any other possible race is under consideration. Translation they don’t want to say no but they won’t say yes. So it means anything is possible and nothing is possible.

Romulan, cardassian and dominion should be added not borg.

If they are still out of ideas then add in minor race ships for each race as like a sub class, for example:
federation = ferengi maruader, vulcan science vessel, andorian cruiser
klingon = gorn cruiser, nausican raider, orion pirate ship

The only reason i would deem playable borg acceptable is for end game events only, like 6 people are chosen in a lottery for an event and they get to spawn in borg cubes and they have to fight the rest of the server.
That would be totally awesome, but full time playable borg is wrong.

Sorry but Vulcans are already nerfed for game balance. The STO producer said in the shows Vulcans are 100% superior to humans but they could not do that for a game where players need to be on equal footing. Can you imagine playing a Borg that was no better than playing a human? We've already done this... it's called Jedi in SWG.

No Thanks... no playable Borg. It would be pointless...

(Unless you had full Borg abilities during a Halloween Event and you could go around and assimilate other players! :D Yes to that!)

The borg should never be a playable race, EVER!!!!

It goes against everything that defines independent and open game play. It's one thing if we're assimilated for a minor story arc, but to have them as a separate playable faction is outright foolish.

Yep I think Romulan is a must later they can add other races whichever come first.

It would be great if you and they didn't quote mine information about a game.

It was asked are other factions possible in the future and the response was that the IP has tons of other factions to draw from.

It was not said that they were considering any of those factions as playables, but rather that they were there if they wished to consider them.

Notice the specification of "Star Trek Online Borg", its the only race that was utilized on. This makes me think that there may be special cases.

Maybe free borg? Whether its 7 of 9 type character, or maybe a whole ship cut off from the collective. In either case, the player borg would be much weaker then the NPC borg connected to the collective.
