What happens to your ship when you transport to the surface of a planet?

Does it remain in orbit a potential target for PVE or PVP?

Does it disappear until you transport back to the ship?

Can the ship act on its own without you (the captain) aboard?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. I couldn't find it.

I think Cryptic have said already that for all intents and purposes that your ship will essentially dissapear if you beam down

Great question. Im not sure its going to matter though since most episodic content will be instanced.

I think it has been said that your ship "vanishes" when you go down to a planet.

It "disappears", but what really happens is the crew turns on the cloaking device and takes a nap.

Craig said it 'Cleans up"...or whatever that means. Take a look through the developer chats. It's listed in one of them
