Well we know the controls are all different... that I can easily live with.

What I really want is to ships go at it and fight like heavyweights going the full 15 rounds.

I remember in SFA and KA that your ship could be damaged and completely adrift. BUT, you could repair it over time and get back into the action. Two ships of the same size going toe to toe often came down to who can repair themselves fast enough.

I hated that game that came out last year where you simply held down the right trigget on the XBOX controller and a ship would be destroyed in 10 seconds easily. That's definitely not Trek. Every battle has been long and generally down to the last blow or android taking one for the team.

When I played SFA, I can remember placing an adrift ship (with its crew frantically attempting to regain control) between me and a nearby star. I'd then tractor him in front of me and release the tractor so the ship would coast into that star.

I doubt that the combat will be like that in STO. From the videos that we have seen the combat is fast paced

and it looks like the ships have health bars and when they run out....... BOOM!!!

sigh.... I was looking forward to searing off another ship's warp nacelles and then finish off by destroying their impulse drive.

talk about having fun griefing. That would make PVP hilarious but evil at the same time.

You can target subsystems so thats something cool. You can probably target impulse so they are "dead in the water" so to speak. To be honest, I've been gone for about 3 months so I need to catch up on exactly what we know so far but seems like your "wants" are pretty much there.

subsystem targeting is in (if your bridge officers have the skill level for it). At the moment there is NO visual battle damage available.
But I hope this will be availabel at release

Its not that I want subsystem targeting. I do want it, yes, but I knew that was coming.

I don't want ship v ship combat to be a minute or two battle. I want it to be a drawn out fight between two ships.

EvE had the long combat but no subsystem targeting. This will have short combat with subsystem targeting. Why can't we just incorporate the two?

Battle Damage will be there on release as so it said on a couple of interviews with Cryptic. No battle damage etc not be there for demo proberly down to it being a demo.

Adding on to that, you could see a Galaxy class loosing a nicelle in the first Trailer for the game.

we will see it on release... how cryptic implent the tactic features in a space battle an how it realy works.

At the moment we saw in the videos quick "dogfight" like st legacy. pressing the fire button and that's it.

But we also know that the videos or the shown demor are >1 month old content.

KA was a dream...I loved it. It actually required tactics. Maneuver combat was king, systems targeting robust, configuration and resource allocation was critical.

I wish combat was similar to KA...the depth STO would bring to that combat model would have been tremendous. Alas, my hopes have been dashed and laid before my feet broken and twitching(much like I had panned to do to Fed crews and their starships).

Agreed, I also thoroughly loved KA. I weeped when I discovered it wouldn't work on my XP.
