Hello Everyone out there,

I would like to apologize in advance for my english - i am from germany.

as i saw all the videos from sto, i noticed that there are no shield effects. I am a littlebit affraid of playing a Startrek-Game without any shield effects. Is there anything known about shield effects ? Will they be added later ? Or will sto never get any shield effects ?
(uuh that seems to be ugly an Sovereign without shielding-effects -.-')

Greetings from Germany,

currently they are working on them, they hope to have them out for release, but if not, it will likely be shortly after.

When last we saw space combat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCE8q6StGdQ), the shields were represented as a series of four glowing arcs which surrounded your ship and decreased in thickness when hit by enemy fire, reflecting their weakened status.

A number of people commented on the absence of the "glowing shield bubble" that usually appeared in the shows when ships were struck by enemy weapons, and one of the devs replied that the arcs was merely the current system they were working with, that they were also tinkering with the more traditional bubble-style shield.

Since it's basically a cosmetic issue they are probably going to get added close to launch. Some of the devs have said there's going to be a lot of simple polishing done duirng and post-beta. I think shield effects were a part of that.

basically i hope that they will add this feature to the launch.

A Startrek Game without Shields is like a Candlelight-dinner without the candles . In both cases you could eat something but the case withe the candles is much more wonderful then the other one.

I think i will only play the game if there are shields as we know them from the series.

Greetings Omura

I think they would look cool but they will be the first thing i would turn off to improve performance

As you know them from the series. That's shield bubbles, yes.

But Star Trek Nemesis showed tight-fitting shields wrapping very close around the skin of the ship, NOT big bubbles around the vessel.

Personally, I'd prefer shield bubbles. Because that's what's more familiar. If they chose to follow Nemesis, though...it would be a fair choice. I wouldn't LIKE it, but it would be reasonable.

Anyway. The ring of four semicircles around the ships that we see in videos and screenshots is how shields are indicated in the user interface. It's just a tactical thing for the game player. It's like a life or health points bar. Those aren't meant to be actual shield graphics.

The devs have said they are looking into improving shield graphics before the game launches.

Remember, what we've seen so far is PRE-BETA FOOTAGE. That's important. It's still VERY EARLY game footage.
