If you get in the Beta, what part will you spend the most time 'testing' ?
With me, prob. the alien race creation for my bridge crew.

I'll be hunting for typos in mission texts and item descriptions and such I think :)

I'll be looking for obvious misinterpreted Star Trek lore, such as when someone says "Watch your six" when really its supposed to be "Enemy vessel bearing 180 mark 213!"
LOL! To me, that IS a bug =P

The part the Devs give you access to for that specific testing period. You wont have free access to the entire game :D

Just like any other beta... If I get in anyway...

Probably performance and system related stuff would be the subject of my main poking, but I think part of the point is to do much, so that the beta does much to you :)

ya thats pretty much how closed usually goes, i will work on whatever i am given, and whatever bugs come up through the natural progression of what i am allowed to do is what i will report

I will check what i am asked to check and if no devs tell me then performance, exploits and star trek lore.

I doubt I'll get into beta at any reasonable time. Most likely I'll get invited the last week or so for a test session.
That tends to be my luck.

Exploits and unintended ways to bypass content.
Same here Brother...
Searching for Exploits, "bugs", Pretty much Search every single place... mosly I will like to see if they have the same 'bugs" they have in Champions Online (mobs shooting you true the walls or trees, ungodly range, never miss, "bullets" that take 90 Degree turns, etc)...
Nobody will like to have a mob or ppl that hide inside a asteroid, that can shoot out but you can't shoot him back.

I will test the theory that sock puppets can in fact, breathe in the void of space.... cause if they can, this is a major and obvious flaw!
Naw... on a serious note, I will test things like UI button functionality, line of sight mechanics in combat, seeing if there are places on a planet where I can walk through walls, or my bridge officers falling through the floor and getting stuck, and such.

If there's focused testing, obviously that - but if there isn't...
1) Fun. Is playing this game enjoyable?
No matter how right or wrong the lore is, no matter how pretty the game is, no matter how cool an idea is; if it's not fun, the game will die.
So the main thing I'm going to be looking for is "Am I enjoying myself? Do I think other people will enjoy this?"
Hilariously enough - even though it sounds like that's just 'playing the game'; it's actually an important part of testing. After all - a system that functions perfectly, buti s dead boring or otherwise frustrating, isn't worth having.
2) Race Creator/Bridge Officers -
This is the feature that has me practically falling over myself; so understandably I intend to play with it *a lot*. There will be legions of unusual creatures leaving my ship when we go planetside >.> muwahahahaa....
At least one will be a Walrus who's backstory is "Can't find bukkit!"
3) Klingon gameplay -
Because I have some major concerns about this faction, I'm going to be testing them particularly, even though I plan to go Federation once the game goes live. As with 1) I want to make sure it's fun, and has some lasting appeal. The difference between having a genuine Klingon faction, and having a Klingon In Name Only faction.
----
I probably won't do much exploring though - it doesn't interest me much.

I'll do my level best to cause the game to curl up and plead for me to stop hurting it.
Only partly in jest. I'm sure there will be significant focus to the testing, but left to my own devices, I plan to emulate LordDave above and try "impossible things".

Everything I can. Usually I am good at finding map glitches, sound problems, and clipping errors. I also want to test Klingon / Fed PvP balance.

Ture, it all depends on how they are testing the game. Maybe they will only want you to test part A on monday and part B on tuesday. Thus is usually my experiance in most early betas, as time passes they then usually let players have free access to all areas.

besides the usual stuff Developers want tested that day

I'll be looking for typos too. I'd hate to be some random player reading a mission brief and find the word Vulkin in there lol. :)

I have 4 computers in my home so i would probley start with that. there ranging from a 1.6 single core amd to the quad core i use for gaming. Then it would be looking for bug graph error. Exploits in missions, walking though walls ect ect.

Typos.
Falling through the maps, solely based on all the times I spent falling/stuck in the maps in CoX.
Mission bugs.

I want to closely examine the explosion graphics of klingon ships... again and again and again;)
Seriously though I would really be interested in checking out how well the genesis feature works...

If you get in the Beta, what part will you spend the most time 'testing' ?
I will be testing the shortness of the mini skirts and how low v. neck shirts go, to determine which is the most sexiest canon female race in the game. ;)

If I am invited while I still have this old clunker pc, I'll be testing how well the game runs of ancient computers. :)
If I get my new computer then I'll likely just keep my eyes open for anything while I check out what is available/what they want us to test.

Knowing just how brown-nosey it sounds. . .
"If you get in the Beta, what part will you spend the most time 'testing' ?"
Whatever the devs say they want the testers to focus on that day. ;)
Beyond that, anything and everything that might even theoretically cause a crash.

this is one of those aspects where the IP's mass audience of hardcore's will really take care of itself, cuz they will find every last little nitpick text error out there...hands down!
i'll be interested in testing interaction with any live space objects, the exploration content that relates to genesis system, and combat bugs primarily

I did that with Champions, my computer was just under minimum spec. Fortunately, I have a new one now.
Erm, you end up testing what you're told to test.
Sometimes you do, sometimes it's more general.

Mine too. I'd pretty much given up on getting into Champions when I got my invite. I'm hoping it's not that long this time.
As for my choice (which is really "what are you looking forward to most?"), definitely the whole character creator thingy. I want to see what ground combat is like too.

Oh my gosh, typos are one of my biggest pet peeves haha. I was finding typos in missions in WoW all the time, so if I get into beta I'm definitely going to be on the prowl. I'm an engineer by day and a writer by night so I know many things about grammar.
