Since the beta's started and some of us haven't got in, when do you think you'll get a beta key?
I'll go for 3rd week in December

After all this mess.... probably within three weeks. Of course the game is hella buggy, and letting all the griefers in will assure the emanation of leaks, which will, in turn, distract us from the real work of helping them fix it, because it will only explode into more grief and specualtion about a game that isn't finished.
Sux to be us.

I'm with Gilligan on a short timeframe for getting those with guaranteed access into beta. If they're howling now, just imagine how they would be by early December.
I also agree that this is putting unfortunate pressure on Cryptic to expand the test faster than it probably ought to, and testers that are so focused on playing the game for fun probably aren't going to be happy with the stability and bugginess of the beta.
On the other hand, I'm not totally comfortable with the relatively short timeframe beta seems to be set for, so I wouldn't mind some of those bugs generating pressure to push release back until the team can get everything right.

Eh, Not every CO lifer/6monther is upset <x_x> I'm not.
I get in when I get in *shrug*.
As for a guess... Dec 1st. Because it just would happen when Siege of Mirkwood launches <X_X>

I will get in when an if they send me a beta key.
But I am with you 100% on what you are saying.

Hopefully before the end of this year. I have plenty of other things to focus on in the meantime so I don't have to hold my breath :)

Oh... I can't tell you how right you are. This is not a game that they want to release buggy.
I really hope we get a nice long go at it. enough to know what the typical playability will be. The shift in systems that CO had caused a tiny ruckus compared to what will happen with the ST fans. Star Trek has too many existing communities to throw a borky product out the door. Look at Beths products. It wasn't just Legacy that got burned at the stake... although that one is a great example.

reporting bugs is overrated... they get plenty of bug reports in every instance - probably 95% are already known items, with the 5% subject to discovery at a greater rate dependant on the amount of testing.
Remember, CO playtesting was two nights a week - that is all. It was not about a massive bug hunting quest. Cryptic has said it many times that a key need for testing is server load, and how the game will function for the masses. Power balance, instanced critter count, working zone mechanics are all the more relevant issue. We do need to come and play - that will be the purpose. If it was merely a bug hunt, they would open up the test times rather than cluster us in there together.
Making recommendations for better gameplaty is important though. I think Cryptic does listen to us.

I doubt I'll get into closed beta ;-)
A while back - when Cryptic were cocking up their contests - I made a post outlining in the harshest terms possible how coming up with a set of rules and asking entrants to abide by them whilst Cryptic ignored them and just went on their merry way, awarding several winning positions to people who breached those rules, I got a message from a certain party making me aware - in more complex words - that I could (in effect) consider myself blacklisted :-) That was the implication at least.
I'm not bitter about it. Of course, it's perfectly reasonable to treat rules and guidelines that you pass on to your community as something you can just throw out of the window at your leisure and then when people point out how ridiculous it is, it's even more reasonable to have a go at them ^^
I'm not expecting much from Star Trek Online however, mainly because of the developer being - as far as I am concerned - untested. Might be pleasantly surprised but I am a vocal critic of Cryptic, just like I am a vocal critic of Turbine. Studios like that aren't worth the hype they get because they aren't comparable to the great video games developers out there :-)

well dont see it as a necesairly bad thing ;-)
we get to see the game as it should be although i would love to be a part of making this game great :-) realy i have been waiting for this kind of game for a long time and beeing in the ST uni. makes it only alot better
realy was hoping to be in the first batch of beta teseters so i could realy try and get those buggs out by reporting alot of stuff i got windows 7 on 1 computer and XP on the other just to make sure i can test it on multiple systems
got a low range midrange and soon high end PC (core i5, E8400,3200+) so im ready for some real testing but hey its not like i aint got nothing to do :-P

I recommend you to be on the list of unblacklistables (kinda like the untouchables)
Seriously, I always criticize their goofy contests. It seems to be a Cryptic trademark :p

but don't you have to be actually playing the game for that to be beneficial.
but beside they even have there own forums too or are their still too many "insurgences" still there.
but i have to admit it's nice to see your coming to your senses a little and admit this whole beta thing was borked

Yea but it doesnt help that CO released with a ton of bugs. Still has some so I hear. I wonder.....

I don't feel CO is very buggy.... until you are near level cap. Unfortunately we didn't get much time in the upper level instances. Some are still being added
Lemuria, MI, and MC, upper levels all could have used a bit more attention especially with the instanced dungeons.
The grief over Co is exagerated, The community is young, I will be glad when the community improves much more than I worry about the game.

Most games do release with bugs. It is impossible to resolve all bug issues during beta. Most companies just want a stable enough game to release to the public, and take care of the remaining bugs, and future bugs with weekly patches.

Nice to see you still insist on trolling me here....
But to clarify me coming to my senses, let me direct you to a post where I predicted these shenanigans and said that they wouldn't be able to take us (promotional subscribers for STO beta) in as promised.
In fact I suggested they would have a pre-Beta... Beta - Well it was Alpha for CO... and apparently I was spot-on.
Don't forget some games have recently had pre-beta closed public testing
Just sayin'
I wouldn't be concerned about preferred playstyles, or one type of complaint/bug getting more attention than others. One thing we learned quickly (Like in 2008 for many of us) was that Cryptic will make their games the way they want. Pushing an agenda would be more effective right here on the board than it will ever be in Beta. The line is if you don't like the way something works - bug it. In other words they'll review the bugs and fix what they can. Although they do listen, and people bug entire systems... It's not exactly the place where helpful gameplay suggestions bear much fruit :p
My greater concern is the number of Beta Participants considering the popularity of the program. I know CO grew it's participants in increments, and a large wave would take it's toll. This is gonna be a helluva Beta launch if they bring all the subscribers in from the start all at once
Like I said "some games" have had pre-Beta testing ;)
try to troll something out of that wisdom, Sir Minago
LOL
