Makes the recent timeline video released by Cryptic look like butt. I admit that I have completely stopped caring about the Path to 2409. It's non-compelling in its presentation and content, whereas the above video is at least dramatic and well-voiced.
While I am looking forward to STO, much of the press and the general presentation of information about it does little to inspire or excite one about it.
To you it may be but I like to read info you get more out of it that way an have to use you mind.

I still want more Path to 2409. I like knowing the state of the story for STO since I am more interested in playing STO than SWTOR.
Star Wars doesn't even make sense. How come laser, lightsaber, hyperdrive, droid, and every other technology has been around for millions of years in the Star Wars Universe? It takes them all that time to come up with Deathstar technology, they must all be idiots in that Universe.

I preferred the in game footage in the STO video myself. Bunch of art is meaningless to me when it is the game visuals I'm hungry to see.

Bioware is great at that kind of thing. Their presentation is always masterful.
However, I still want to know everything that happened after the events in Nemesis before 2409. It doesn't matter at all to me that it comes primarily in text form. I'd really like a full bio on all primary characters, as well as supporting cast like Sela and Martok.
Hey, a full bio on each . . . hmm . . .

judge a game by its gameplay not this crap your talking about. Bioware writers have been writing stuff up for that game for years befoe it was announced, they have more time and resources....I could really care less for this stuff anyways, I woudl rather see gameplay vids and screenshots than path to 2409

wow, that video was really badly done (the visual part, audio narration was kinda okay).

Just to be clear, STO and SWTOR were initially announced around the same time (well, STO post-Perpetual Entertainment). In that time, Cryptic has developed the game enough to start their closed Beta and get that much closer to the games launch. EA/Bioware has made trailer after trailer, and one gameplay "demo" video, but other than that, they've got no other info. By this I mean that it's much more important to spend time and resources on building the actual game at hand, rather than trying to market it.
Also, EA is doing SWTOR and they've got limitless funding, while Cryptic is a smaller much more financially pinched group.
And......Warhammer Online did extensive marketing with their game, as well as did Age of Conan; and look at how those games turned out, good...but not 'great' and they're more niche with moderate populations.

Dunno...
motionless artwork picturs vs. new ingame action footage?!? I'd rather chose the later...

Yep, great narration, but other than that..
But I was a little disappointed by the STO timeline video. I would have hoped for some actual (ingame) starfleet captains to tell us the story, not just Cryptic employees in front of a greenscreen. :)

More money, resources, experienced PR department, ect....
Seriously: Do you honestly expect Cryptic to compete with Bioware in the PR department?

Bioware has proven themselves to be master storytellers and their presentation is usally top-notch. Translating that into a great mmo remains to be seen. If we're going to going to make this into a Star Wars MMO vs a Star Trek MMO, story will play a part, but it's going to be a small one when deciding which game is better.
That being said, presentation aside, both Cryptic and Bioware seem to be doing a fine job on developing a good setting for their perspective franchise.

I don not know but i think i would rather use my resources on making game than making useless videos which will be forgoten after launch.
I personaly like path to 2049 more than some cheaply animated concept arts.

LOL that TOR video almost put me to sleep. Once I looked at the gameplay it reminded me of SWG with more bells and whistles for combat. No thx :)
The Path to 2409 is well written and full of nice plot lines for this game. The 1st video version of the path to 2409 is nice too. At least you see real game play instead of just some (well done) art work.

As a member of the SW:TOR community, I agree with you Morgomir. BioWare has practically said nothing about their gameplay other than what we saw in the demo video, which they only revealed after weeks of complaining on the community's part. Those who asked BioWare employees about gameplay mechanics in interviews were told, "We can't talk about that at this time". So really, everything we know about Gameplay at this point was revealed in the demo video.
Right now, all BioWare is doing is hyping the story. While I like a good story, it doesn't mean anything if the gameplay is terrible.
Cryptic hasn't revealed much story because they've elected to show us how the game plays so far, and to be honest I find myself disinterested in SW:TOR, and more interested in STO instead.

A slideshow? So that's the legendary PR I've been hearing so much about.

OP is right.
Then again SWTOR makes Cryptics budget look like a bag of change, so what do you expect?

Unfortunately, when one has unlimited funds like lucasfilm, you can make impressive games and graphics. This is what we get stuck with. Nothing but offline interviews and postings off site. Nothing new in over a month.... Go figure how good this game is gonna be???

SWTOR has a ton more money to do additional PR. Cryptic doesn't have anywhere near the finance or the manpower to pull anything additional out other than what you are seeing.
Although I wish Atari / Infogrames would throw more money their way to really boost this product. I think the majority of the funds are going to go into developing it rather than hyping it, since I suspect the budge was most likely drained just getting the license.
Bioware had to purchase HeroEngine and other things to develop their game, which may have its catches. Cryptic does have its own engine and other things, which make designing their game more cost effective. It may balance out.

I know right? I mean, it would be WAY too expensive to present a fully fleshed out Klingon ships of the line! Half the time, I have trouble even logging into the website!
Cryptic's PR department has to be careful. If they dont watch out, they could become homeless instead of just hobos. Horrible!

Even with Opera, I've never had trouble logging in. For me, my problem has been that I cannot access private messages (I can neither check, nor send PM's, as indicated in my sig).

That video was a low-tech slideshow with a narrator that sounded bored and probably was saying something before his recording like, "WTF is Star Wars?'. If a fat bag of cash nets a video like that, then I have some swamp...err beach front property to sell to Bioware to put their servers into:rolleyes:

The only advice I have for cryptic for their last two clips (Klingons and timeline vids) is that they need better passionate voiceacting.
Audio is more important that video in a lot of ways. :)
