We DEMAND player run crews!!!

Well, actually, I don't really care about player run crews, but I thought that with all of the vitriol going around the forums right now, we could use a change of pace back to the old stand-by of arguing about player run crews. :p This way, the old timers that are coming back after a long break due to the start of closed beta will feel right at home! :D

What other old arguments would you guys like to start up now? Any of them have to be less toxic than what's going on currently :p

Yeah, it's a sad day when I would choose the endless player crews bickering over the HUNDREDS of mindless beta whiners. Look, 40,000 people will be accepted to beta. 15,200 of them were 6 monthers/lifers. 400,000 people put in applications. That gives me, personally, a 6.2% chance to get into the beta. That's the same chance that every other non 6 monther/lifer gets. So about one in every 16 people will get chosen. I don't like those odds, and I don't think I will get chosen because my track record for luck, especially with things I want really, really badly, is not good.

So let's just argue about player crews again, at least it was a level playing field.

I was going to come in an post NO WE DO NOT but I would not like to Bring up old arguments but I would like to get a new one that has nothing to do with Beta.

When I first heard about STO, back when Perpetual were working on it (was pretty early, not long after it was announced) I recall reading about how each server would be one ship & the Captain of that ship would be a player. Our roles, as other players would all fall within ship duties.

It baffled me how on earth this was possible & still be 'fun'. I could imagine some snotty nosed Lt. Cmmdr Pwnzu ordering everyone to clean out the Torpedo Tubes, or some such nonsense. I believe this is what Zinc means whenever describing STO with the line "We didn't want to be down in Engineering pressing Buttons for 20+ Hours..."

I did like the idea, however, of how the character aged when they were promoted - so you would start out as a fresh faced young cadet & by the time you reached Admiral your character would be late 40's/early 50's/ Although, again, I had no idea how they were going to realise this.

I remember seeing all the screens of the Interiors & such .. but everything else was all still so vague.

I knew they would never get the project off the ground & my initial excitement upon hearing about STO & rushing over to this new Site started waning. It was all just some fancy idea which was simply never going to actually happen.

I left the site, knowing there was no point ever going back to it.

When I saw the link on the Champions site I thought "here we go again" :eek:

I was also around during those very early days, and had very similar feelings as you did. Though I had forgotten about the player aging thing. I actually think it's a pretty cool idea. There ya go. A new thing we can demand!

Getting onto the topic of Crews and stuff seriously for a moment.

I would love a game that allowed me to work my way up the ranks aboard a starship in my respective career. Starting off as an Ensign and clawing my way towards the bridge and my own command. Then when i had that command i could explore the galaxy, take my ship where i would....

Experiencing away missions, not-away missions. Exploring a beautifully realized interior.



That being said though I'd never want to do such a thing in an MMO environment where the rest of the crew were also players.

There would be no end to the crying, the arguing...Not to mention the amount of......other things.

Then you'd get to the point where everything major that the ship did would be put to a poll or nobody would ever be happy.

"there you have it, The crew said no sir, We'd best move on."

LOL! Great post :) And I do agree with you actually, that a game like that, where you were a crew member working your way up, would be awesome for a solo RPG, but in an MMO it would be a nightmare. :p

I demand a realistic implemition of a B.M. system, not going to the bathroom seriously detracts from the realism and immersivness in the game.

It is not only biologicaly accurate but it just makes sense. If this feature isnt in at launch or the first expansion, I will seriously have to reconsider purchasing STO.

PLEASE cryptic give us a B.M. system we all want STO to be a GREAT game and little things like this are the difference between a good game and a great one.
