This question is directed only to those who bought the CO/STO beta deal: why did you buy it?

A) For the CO sub

B) For the STO beta

C) Both

Just curious to know how many people may have bought it only for the beta.

I can tell you that: most people here on this boards bought it for the STO beta. While most people who bought it for the CO-Subscription will most likely be over in the CO boards or, well, ingame. :)

Both. Twice, no less; one for myself and the missus.

We kept it without asking for a refund after the 1st Sept. Patch due to the beta offer though. Brilliant marketing plan, but still underhanded.

I bought it for the STO beta, and the exclusive mirror universe uniform :p Also to play Champions Online, even though it wasnt the type of game I would be really into. I wanted to be a superheo when I was a kid, why not now when I am an adult?

Why would you argue about bascially paying for a years subscription where you actually get the games lifetime to play it? Sure there is a risk of the game getting shut down early, though I would find it ridiculous that it would get shut down in under a year of having it gone live. After all, Cryptic and Atari have invested a lot of money into it.

Sure, I may never have actually payed up to the years equivalent subscription if I did the monthly billing option, and I dont see if being much of an issue - as I can jump into the game whenever I feel like and play as little or as much as I want. So to me, I see it as an investment, where as I am helping Cryptic by giving them a quick cash injection, and I get my super hero fix whenever I need it.

If they offered a 6mo/lifetime deal with STO, I will also take it.

I bought the 6 month deal for both CO and STO's offer; I'd just dropped WoW and was looking for another MMO, and I was interested in CO's character creation, the STO offer was the icing on the cake.

because it was a lifetime offer that i chose and im jsut crazy about MMO's with lifetime offers .....

makes it a pick up and play ..... an almost guild wars type conversion .

the fact it was CO

and that there was STO beta access

where just bonuses for me .....

since i already going to fill out a beta application to STO anyway even without a CO sub

both reason Life time Sub.

Champions is a distraction, its candy. STO i hope will be a meal.

Both reasons, lifetime sub.

However, the mirror universe uniform was probably my main reason for getting it. (yes, I'm aware it'll probably go up on the Cryptic store sooner or later, but I'm glad I get access to it early on).

Six month subscription and both.

I learnt about Champions Online following Cryptic having picked up the rights to develop Star Trek Online. A couple of magazines suggested that Champions had a lot of potential - although a couple of them have now gone back on that - and so I decided it would be worth taking a look at to get a handle on how Cryptic currently do business etc.

When the subscription packages came up, I felt that it was quite a reasonable offer and quite a fiscally beneficial one during the current recession. That said, the inclusion of the beta access did add some of the extra weight behind buying into the plan, but it is not by any means the sole reason behind my purchase.

I bought the 6 month subscription because of the STO closed beta access. I played the CO beta and I knew that, in the best case scenario, it would hold my attention for 2 months *tops*. My reasoning was that, by the time I lost interest, STO beta would start and I would be there (specially after they specified that we would be the first group in closed beta).
Well, my estimate was right, I lost interest in CO about 1-2 weeks ago (haven't connected since), and my other estimate was also right, that beta would start by then (or very close to that point). What I didn't estimate was that we wouldn't be the first group in, as promised.

I bought the 6 month sub only for the Beta access to suport Cryptic at least in spirit and to obviously get into cosed beta in a reasonable amount of time.

While STO beta access was a very nice perk, I decided to purchase my 6 month subscription because I could see myself playing CO for that long, and it would cost me less money in the long run.

Granted, I haven't really played CO in awhile. But it's mostly due to the oodles of issues I've been having with new nvidia drivers. For awhile there I couldn't play 20 minutes without my card freezing up on me.

A - primary reason - I play an mmo I like for the long term, Eq from beta to summer 08, other sonystuff as well with the package deals, so the 200 dollar deal seemed very good as a cost cutter, the STO stuff was just gravy on the deal since I'm looking forward to STO as well. I would have gone for it without the bonuses just on the cost cutting alone.

i only bought it because of the sto beta.... so i thought, i can play co while i wait and then move on to sto for the next many years...

never planned on doing much co past sto anyways....

so if they hadn't dropped in the sto offer in the lifetime, i would never have thought about buying it...

I bought it for both as well.

I was playing the CO open beta and I really really loved it. So I thought to myself, why not? I can play this game for 6 months free without having to pay monthly and it was a great deal!!

Really the STO beta was just a perk for me, kinda like "oh hey, well... they were offering it, so..."

B For Sto,

Did not even care enough for CO to play it in OB. Had not even read anything about it till i saw the STO beta deal on an ad.

Lifetime sub...

For both because I sometimes like to play a superhero game but don't want to pay monthly for playing a night every few weeks.

And I am following STO since perpetual times.

So it was a perfect deal for me :)
