Hiya :),

Just for a bit of fun what will you name your first ship ?

I'm Either going to name mine USS RELORA or the USS HORTON (My Girlfriends Surname lol)

I bet they wont let you call your ship Enterprise otherwise they would be hundreds of enterprises.

The problem with this is that if someone sees a name they like they might steal it, I have a bunch of names...but ill only throw around USS Leipzig right now.

I agree with Morgomir.

Naming a starship is like when you name your children...you don't tell other people what the names are until you've had your child, otherwise your friend has a kid before you and you find out that they like and have taken your name!

If you give our your name here and someone else likes it and manages to get in to STO before you, you might find yourself needing to select another name.

You could still use the name "Daring".

USS stands for United Star Ship

HMS stands for His/Her Majesty's Ship

I don't think they are going to let us drop the USS and if they do, they aren't going to let us substitute it with something else.

Why not call your ship the USS Daring?

This really depends what ship path I go down, might call a Prometheus/Sovereign/Galaxy the USS Vanguard or i could call a Luna class ship the Derby maybe

but as for FIRST ship? probally the USS I-Hope-I-Dont-Meet-A-Neghvar-Class

I name all my ships after forum threads. Not sure what my first ship will be called but if I ever get an Akira I will have to go with "Wtf Akira!!".:rolleyes:

Well, my best starship name or two I've thought of for my own will be saved for higher tier ships.

But I will still give care and thought to the name of my first ship, the name must still be something good.

Because your first command is always something special. You never forget your first.

I have a list of mythical weapons from around the world that I intend to choose from. I'm intentionally riffing on the Excalibur class, even though it's not a ship I intend to use myself. I just like the idea of using mythical weapons as ship names >.>

First off I am going to see if STO is like past Cryptic games that supported any kind of script. In CoH I had a member of my guild that was RP'ing a Russian Witch ala Baba Yaga, and she had macro's a Cyrillic script into all of her spells, it was awesome.

So for the Klingon ship I am going to see if it is possibe to to name it something in the Klingon Script.

For the UFP side I am not sure, it will depend on the species I make my captain.

In the Beta? I'll have some kind of atrocious name. (it all gets wiped anyway). Perhaps something like USS - Dunebuggy or USS - Chimera (as a side reference to my love of SW....)

I think several players can use the same ship name, since the game is instanced. So all the engine has to do is not putting them in the same instance.

Ship names will not be Unique.

NCC Registries will be from what i remember.

So you might have 5 USS Chocoholics in the same system/shard but they'd each have a different NCC

Based on some of the names I have seen both here and in games I hope they limit it to a set of choices we mix and match. I don't really care if I see a bunch of similar named ships either. It's not a big deal.

I used to joke that my first ship would be named the USS Interim; but since learning that my first ship can be a Centaur (one of my faves) I'm really not sure what to call it.

I want to give it a good name, but on the other hand, want to save any good names I come up with for higher tier ships (since I'll probably get more use out of those).

I'm considering USS Buccaneer... but it doesn't sound all that Starfleety to me (no worse than Fire Brand or Renegade I guess, but still).

I'm the type to take years mulling over options like this.

I plan on going with either a mythological theme, an astronomical theme, or use my favorite books/movies/games for inspiration. So, U.S.S. Minotaur, U.S.S. Photon, or U.S.S. Narnia, as examples.

I'm also looking forward to reporting a lot of U.S.S. Sephiroth's, Sephirothie's, XxSephirothxX's, etc.

Science = not a flipping clue.

I'm going engineering field cause I like being support as well, however when it comes to my tac capt. (I will have many alts.) i'm going to be using U.S.A.F designations. I'll have a warthog for another escort ship, I might make a science ship the Blackbird.

Escort names will probably be selected from Predatory Animals.
Cruiser names will be selected from Naval vessels from nations where I have ancestry.
Science names will be selected from Subatomic Particles or units of scientific measurement. (I wonder how people will respond to flying around in the USS Quark. :D)

For a Cruiser I'd go with: USS Chivalrous, or a Japanese word meaning the same.
For Science vessel: USS Kyuukyuu
For Escort I was going to go Klingon thinking they would have better firepower. But I'm hearing it wont be a PVE faction so not sure if id go the Escort route for PVP. Off the top of my head I think USS Yari (spear in Japanese) might be a good choice or USS Nodachi.
