Ok is there info on the min and max system resources?
Does anyone know if there will be different servers or just one big server?
Will they be using anything like a stackless IO as eve has?
Thank you for your time.

Hello, and welcome to the Star Trek Online forums!
The developers have said that STO will probably have the same system requirements as Champions Online, which can be found here (http://champions-online.com/node/88150).
If you'd like more information about STO, you might find these threads helpful:

Its running on the same game engine that as Champions Online. STO will probably have very similar specs to that game.

One big server, but lots of instancing to keep places from getting too crowded.

I dont know what that is, but we have Klingons.

On the Stackless IO, I would say that it is something you will want to ask a Dev on the next Ask a Dev session.

stackless IO:
http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=584
Contrary to my earlier statement, I do somewhat understand this stuff. I just thought the original poster might have been talking about some gameplay mechanic in EVE that I am not aware of.
Having studdied and worked with computer networking, I have some understanding of what a protocol stack is. That article only talked about how it has improved performance in their game, not what exactly their 'StacklessIO' does. I imagine they wouldn't explain it to the general public, as it is proprietary technology. And companies in certain parts of the world tend to steal that kind of thing.
If I had to guess I would say it is just a very custom built netcode, designed to remove unneccesary steps of their data sending and receiving. Another company like Cryptic would probably need to license the technology to use it. However, because it is custom built, it may not even be compatible with other games, such as STO.
Lastly, while it sounds like a good idea to us at first, and a great way to reduce lag in a game, this "StacklessIO" sounds like it does not conform to networking standards. In other words, it would be like Ford building a 3-wheeled car, when cars are required to have 4 wheels. They pretty much need to keep it to themselves, and off the public roads.

To be honest i do not play eve. Friend plays it and told me about their stackless IO. After reading what info EVE releases about it and being a I.T buff. Thought something like this could greatly help game play. And sorry not getting back to this post sooner. Had an I.T class and then come home to deal with a 15 year old that must of forgot what right and wrong was. But i would like to thank everyone who took the time to anwser my questions.
