What if........the Beta is rippling back in time to prevent itself from happening to protect gamers from it's sheer awesomeness - trying to ensure we all keep our social lives! :p

impossible that would create a paradox where they would go back in time to stop it from happening then they wouldnt be able to do it again there fore it would continue because no one came back to stop it...wow this could go for a while...time episodes were my favorite

 That is either brilliant or complete stupidity. I am not sure which because I am not a Scientist. That is very, very deep thinking I must say. I may get no sleep tonight because I opened this thread. Thank you.

Wait a minute if someone went back in time to stop the Beta from rippling back in time then no one would have gone back in time in the first place because nothing was going back in time. Therefore the Beta has in fact not gone back in time... It merely wants us to believe it has gone back in time to prevent us from playing. How many times did i use the word time? - Time travel is not for the faint of heart although it does often make a great Star Trek Episode :)

As for the article it is poorly written. And secondly they are not going to be able to create matter from nothing. We have no clue as a species on how to create matter from nothing and this hypothesis is just a hypothesis untested and in my opinion not worth much.
Even more so they seem to be missing the obvious of how galaxies, matter and black holes are connected. A black hole is just a large sum of mass. So much mass that it attracts everything. Think of it is as a massive planetoid. I have a hypothesis just as credible as what they spoke of in that article. And that is that when all matter in space has condensed into a local location akin to a black hole the rules of what binds matter together as we understand it ceases. And when that rule is broken all that compacted matter in the black hole is released. And thus the rebirth of galaxies. Just like a heart beat and the breath we breath in and out.
As to the sheer awesomeness causing beta to be undone from the future that is a possiblity. Most likely becasue the devs are to busy playing the game and forgot to release it to the rest of us.

Well, I subscribe to the fact we, as humans, will annihilate ourselves with our own technology ... be that weapons, biological, technology gone awry, or medical that allows us to over populate the earth.
So I don't see why STO's beta couldn't fall into that category.

Paradoxes aren't a problem when you create a new timeline.
Question is will the time hackers from the future succeed in stopping STO or will they only help make it bigger?

I reckon if we create a static warpshell around the game we might be ok

"Alright, lets build this reactor."
Dear God, have they even considered Murphy's Law before that complicated nonsense? I'm glad they are creative, but that just seems a bit over-the-top.
On topic, if there is such a thing LOL, if you can build a static warp bubble, go for it. I'll be over there popping Pringles.

Lol this is a very entertaining thread...but perhaps we are in an alternate timeline because someone from the future went back adn changed it creating a parallel universe, as what Nero did when he went back in time...mainly so it wouldn't screw up 4 series of star trek lol, but you know im sticking with its a crazy paradox that a human that does not really know anything about time travel can comprehend... we need to bring an expert in on this... where is the voyager crew when you need them

I think what happened was that the game was so successful that IT department productivity at release of the game dropped through the floor resulting in a cascade effect that caused multi-billion dollar industries to fail around the world. This caused a financial collapse that then led to a social collapse. As a last ditch effort a team of ITs full of nerdrage fought their way through the irradiated landscape (caused by nuclear power plants melting down or exploding) to get to an experiemental time machine. Their mission was to sabotage the mmo during development so that it would be a failure and they would go back to playing the new star wars, which wasn't as good. Stage one was to cut out the klingon player population from the info loop enraging them further, while delaying beta until the last possible minute so that it wasn't long enough to catch game breaking bugs. There has to be a happy medium. We need to make sure the game is good enough not to fail, but not too good as to ignore real life to the point of world destruction. We can do it!
