Has anyone thought about or said about monthly charges? The most recent article brought this point up at the end. My opinion is weather or not they charge I won't mind. What does everyone else think?

Oh they'll definitely use a subscription model. It would be nice if they had $9.99/month pricing though, even if you have to get a year's subscription for it.

That would be nice. Maybe they'd even get more subscribers..or subscribers wanting to purchase multiple accounts due to such a low sub fee.

I suspect you're looking at $15.99 a month ... I expected $19.99 a month till they added MTs.

I personally wish they had gone $20 a month and dropped the MTs.

Why $20? People would definitely skip the game then.
Just about all MMOs charge $14.99 as a monthly fee or less.
Going over that price they'll need to provide much more in that case.
I would say they should go less, say $11.99 or even $9.99.

That would probably be a terrible move. For STO to have higher subscription pricing than every other MMO out there, it would have to be better than at least most MMOs, otherwise few people would be able to justify paying that much. I don't think Cryptic is arrogant enough to do something like that.

I'm sure it will go for $15 a month or so. Seems to be the standard price for MMOs these days. Unless, they want to be really aggressive and go for $10 a month. That would help the game grow quickly, but I'm sure the stakeholders would throw a fit :P

I didn't say $20 a month was a good move ... but that's what they are hoping to get out of us anyway by throwing the MT's on top of a subscription.

They just aren't being upfront about it.

At no time did I ever think this game was be less than $15 ... a) because they don't have to, and b) that would be the same as saying "We don't consider ourselves a premium MMO" in today's market.

I do believe if they charged $20 a month ... it would still be successful.

They just don't want to be the first ones to do it ... all these companies are waiting for Blizzard to set that price point in their next MMO, and all of them will immediately up their monthly to it.

Of course ... everyone has quantity discounts. That doesn't change the base price, it just gives you a quantity discount.

While that sounds like a valid argument, you realize SWG was the first to push it to $14.99 and most people would argue that SWG wasn't a far superior game to it's then current competition.
