Since the game in in 3-D space, will we get a slight accuracy bonus for attacking above or below a ship where there is more surface area to hit? Perhaps an accuracy penalty for Jousting? Not trying to make this game too tactical or realistic. Just wondering.
Discussions of what you might like to see are also good.

This is just pure speculation, but from the feel I'm getting for the game from what little we have been told I sorta doubt it. I also think that the combat is going to be played in a 2D manner with only 3D elements for presentation. More complex tactical considerations like transversal velocity, tracking speed, minimizing/maximizing target surface area, etc... probably won't be factors in the game. There might be a range mechanic and firing arcs for your weapons but that might be it.
For what it's worth, I'm actually in favour of expanding the tactical considerations in the game though.

Just as an FYI, phasers never miss. But we're currently under the impression that torpedoes CAN be made to miss... somehow. So there will likely be some factors that can improve their accuracy, though I don't know if ship surface area relative to your position will be something the game has time to calculate.

From what I've seen (and regular forumites can probably point you to specifics) although the ships will MOVE in a 3-D manner, targetting only works on a 2D plane to make things easier. Check out some of the videos to see what I'm talking about.
As for what I'd like to see? Definitely like to see variations on targetting depending on ship size/facing. I.E. longer ships are easier to hit from the side then head on, etc. But until we get a better idea of the overall mechanics it's just speculation.

There is canonical evidence that phasers Can and Do miss.
:)
Maybe they Don't miss in STO, but we don't know that for sure.
Aslo Phaser / Disruptor cannons can probably miss aswell.
