View Full Version : Borg Alert, All avaible ships to sector 001! Here is my idea.....

Ok I was reading over one interview, and it was said you could have 30 to 40 ships help fight off a Borg ship. Ok that sounds fun, but why not toss in an extra bit into the mix.

Lets say you have 1 or more Borg ship's enter sector 001, and you have a handful of ships there already. They of course get cault off guard, and scamble to protect Earth. The battle starts, and a General call goes out for all avalible ships to help defend against the attack. So while this is going on, now begins my idea.

Now the 1st group of players might not do so well against this attack, and I figure they will lose their ships in battle. So IF your one of the unlucky ones, how about having a sub-mission start after your ship is destroyed in this attack?

The idea starts with you coming out of a load screen, and your now on one of the Borg ships. Yes your not a prisoner, and your crew is being assimulated. You now are part of the Borg collective, and your helping them fight against your faction. You have to conplete new missions now, to help keep the Borg ship running.

Now all is not lost, cause do you remember the call for help that went out? So once the counter attack starts you get final missions that lead to you and your crews rescue. The main person you should see in your rescue, is one of your NPC bridge crew, who some how makes it off your ship before it blows. They would be part of a team from your ship, that rescue you right before the Borg ship blows up, and that would end the Borg missions for you.

Now once you complete these missions, you will gain Borg Implants in your Character Creator, and you too can make a 7 of 9 type in the game.

I know the idea needs work, but you get the general idea. It lets you play as a Borg for a short time, and you gain a reward at the end of the Borg missions.

So what do you guys think about this idea?

Yes it's a rework of my old ideas, and a few ideas from others. But I think something like this would be great in the game. Making it work might be the hard part. lol

Sounds fun but I bet that would be difficult to simulate. I wouldn't mind, if my ship was destroyed, becoming apart of the Borg until the assault is over or having the option to respawn. I would also vote on being apart of the Borg assimilation party that's beamed over to other ships when we get interiors later on after launch if this is actually considered.

I think it's a novel idea, but I maintain my belief that the Borg should be strictly NPC. A relentless and fear inspiring threat to anyone and everyone... But perhaps if this mechanic were kept to an instanced "match" of some kind, it could work. They are introducing a CO PvP arena soon where you fend off waves Zombies, and if you are taken down by one, you become a Zombie yourself.

If they can make that work, I'm sure they could make your idea work if they are so inclined.

Three other active threads about Cedric's idea, eh? And all before he even posted it! Amazing. :)

Is anyone else getting tired of this spam?

Yes I know there is other post on this topic. But I am just posting a mission idea, so I figured why not give it a different posting. lol

I am some of you like the idea, I just think it would be a fun mission to do. Plus you would gain a little reward at the end of the event.

thefrayl I was thinking a little more about what you said, about the zombie thing. Then it hit me, why not make this a halloween type event. That way you don't over use it, and it becomes a once a year type thing.

Of course the Borg in general would be used more than once a year, but you doing a Borg Mission would be just once a year. Just toss that out there. lol

I'm not to fond of the idea, I might also say that in general, they shouldnt have the Borg attack the most important planet in the Federation any longer, because should we fail, I'd like to see negative consequences, like lost systems to the Borg, and when they attack Earth, they really cant say we've had negative consequence of losing a system.

But as for the first wave fighting a borg cube, well... its dangerous, but I'm thinking we might have a few minutes of warning before the initial Cube appears, like transwarp conduit detected, or borg cube apporching in t minus 10 minutes, gather a fleet at XXX, so we have time to group up to defend.

And also, for first wave of assaults against the cube, I'd plan on trying to stay defencive while fighting, trying ot keep some distance, hit it from a ways away, just to slow it down and make it fight, rather then destroy the nearest planet. Smart planning keeps you from being destroyed.

So we'll see just about everyone will look to die to a cube and then twiddle their thumbs until the Borg cubes blows...just so they can create one of thousands of 7 of 9 types that will all of a sudden swarm Starfleet Academy for commission as an Officer...and actually make it.

Did 7 of 9 ever really become a Starfleet officer? Would 7 of 9 been able to operate as a crewmember If Voyager had been in normal contact and under the operational control of Starfleet? She was a long-term rescue mission, only put to use because of her abilities for a ship short on crew, resources, support and lost in deep space.

Lets be honest, I dont believe Starfleet would allow ex-Borg with operational implants to service on ships with the present threat(in this case, not even a threat, its happening) of Borg invasion/incursions. These ex-Borg would be too much of a Trojan Horse risk.

I'd have say I dont like it...I'd prefer a thorough and in-depth Borg experience.

While I concur with your general viewpoint, it is worth noting that there WILL apparently be ex-Borg Starfleet officers, as a Borg BO is now being offered as an Amazon.com pre-order exclusive.

I'm not so sure about the whole capture part, unless they wanted to add it as an 'unlock' type of character down the road. However, I always did like zone events, and something like this could be a fun one. Especially if it's set up to dynamically adjust to the number of players participating.

Something I dont want to see, lol.

I'd be more open to getting officers like Seven, yes, she was a former borg, but she served on voyager quite well. She didnt pursue a full fledged career in Starfleet, but for the game purposes, if you equate Voyager to one of the player ships, she would have acted like an officer.

I think it'd be something to unlock at some stage in your career, but not in a encounter with a cube. But something you might get in a big grand story/series of episodes, at the climax of which you get implants, temporarily, which are removable, though you may choose to keep the cosmetic appearance from them, depending on your choices during the mission, possibly a slight bonus, as we saw in Seven of Nine, even though they were virtually inactive, she had it integrated into her body and physical structure, increasing her durability, and she could touch extremely hot things. She could see better, alternatively, you'd get other abilities/skills instead as a reward.

either that, or you free a Borg Drone you discover isolated, or encounter one freed by the unimatrix zero(or is it one?) thing. As a part of one of your big episodes/series of episodes.

The "Borg Experience" would be more of a collective mind, you'd have no real control, you'd be a slave to the queen's will. Singular thought is non-existent picard fought as hard as he could to have a will, but it was futile.

I dont discount what she brings to a ship...but you cant equate Voyager to any player ship because we arent seperated from the Fleet. If Voyager was in the same situation as we will be in, 7 of 9 wouldnt have been allowed to serve as she did. She would have been dropped off at the nearest Starbase.

She acted as an officer, but she wasnt...only the circumstances allowed for to operate in that capacity for so long. Even Wesley didnt get that level of access granted to 7 of 9 did...and he was on his way to the Academy to actually be an officer. She only held that position because Voyager was operating totally independent of Starfleet...the same reason Maquis crew operated on the ship...they werent officers either. They were bodies needed to get the ship and its occupants home.

Once in Starfleet space, all that mess would have been dissolved...Command would see to that.

This sounds like a good idea for a special event that is held only a few times per year. Cryptic should consider creating a server wide event similar to this and if you complete the event X number of times you would get a Perk & a Rare Borg Bridge Officer as reward.

It sounds great, but I'm pretty sure that people will intentionally lose to the Borg if it means it can open up a new character creator to make nothing but Borg drones on a ship.

Besides, I think some game company is doing an offer where if you preorder the game, you get a special Borg bridge officer.
