Hey community,
Well i read the gameshark "review" and i must say.....how......well i dont really have the words to adequately describe it, well i do but they are far from appropriate for the forums lol.
This "review" seems to have been conducted by someone who...well just dosen't get it. The description on the game didn't do it justice in the least bit, hardly a blurb. It was split into 3 "pages" where it barely amounted to 1 page, no real eyecatching details, nothing out of the ordinary in regards to game features. A most unimaginative and rather boring read completely devoid of thought, it was like reading a review of hamlet, written by a lobotomized klingon targ. Did anyone else find this "review" devoid of everything that makes a review....well a review?
In closing, i'm hoping cryptic makes better choices in future review authors and sites.
And on to my second small topic,
It was my understanding that cryptic would announce a collectors edition, and lately there have been a few threads on CE bonuses from amazon and gamestop. Am i being paranoid in thinking this is just to bolster preorder sales, or did i miss a post or dev chat where it was stated that a CE will be offered and come with fancy bonuses, in the latter case......well ill have to whip out the plastic money card and preorder both.

The only review I'm reaaly going to care about will be mine, after I've played it ;)
Will be interesting when Yahtzee gets his hands on a copy lol.

LOL very true, but would you not agree that these reviews drum up hype for upcomming titles, and some people may read a review like this one and come to the conclusion that, if the review lacks hype and plenty of depth that its because the game lacks the same hype and depth.
I can think of a multitude of members on this forum alone that could write a MUCH better review, such as Hittingsmoke and......myself ;)

I see and understand your point, and on just about any other game I would fully agree. But I think a game like Star Trek MMO will pretty much sell itself to start off with at least, where as other, less famously titled games would probably rely on in depth, good quality reviews to get people interested.
With that said, I still enjoy reading good reviews on games I'm into, and look forward to playing. IMO the reviewer in question is most probably not a Trek fan, hense a less than spectacular interview ;)

Good point,
I guess it's hard to review something you have no interest in.
The site should have passed off the assignment to a more....enthusiastic reviewer.

After reading that...'review' I felt thouroughly underwhelmed.
The grammar was off, the flow was bad and the info given was not deep.
In short it pretty much failed on all levels.
If I was Run of the mill Johnny who had never heard of sto, and went by reviews I'd probably pass on sto. Reviews like that may scare off ppl on the fence or those who dont game much.
That said most serious gamers I know don't give reviews more than a passing glance, as they generally know what they want to play so I'm not to concerned about those who know sto.

Online reviewers tend to be...uh...not of the same quality as reviewers from magazines. I tend not to consider them as serious sources of information. Especially since some of them seem to have axes to grind and editors who just don't care.

It also wasn't a review but a preview, which means they were basically given the game demo everyone else has played and nothing more. It also didn't seem like they had an actual Q&A. Another things is when you developing a game I would guess just getting up on as many sites as possible is a plus, just to get more traffic to this sit.

Bang on man, bang on
Even though that online reviewers aren't top notch, i've read much better online review articles from other sites, gameshark really dropped the ball here.

Reviews by people who "don't get it" are important to Cryptic as well. Possibly more important.
They aren't just targeting those who do get it ... they already have those people in the bag.
Now if you want to discuss how poorly written the review was ... I'm right there with ya.

Every review isnt going to be as enthusiastic as the other, nor is every review going to paint the game in a favorable light. At the end of the day, it doesnt really matter what anyone thinks about the game except...you. So dont worry too much about reviews.
As far as the CE goes, I agree. I would like to hear a real comment from Cryptic regarding whether it is "real" or not, and whether other retailers will have a CE with different rewards.

I can understand your point, but i think this has to be the most poorly written review i have ever seen, I dont know i may be a bit off in my reasoning, but i just feel that it could have been so much better.
