The rest of the world apart from the USA?

Hi guys, Ive been searching the forums for my answers, but cant seem to find them. So here I put it to you guys as a hell of a lot of you seem to know a hell of a lot more about STO than me :-

Is STO going to be hosted soley in the USA or will it be spread out with seperate servers across other continants such as Europe, Asia and Australia?

If it is going to be hosted in the USA only, will the game be available to buy from said continants as a CD, or will it be download only and buy a Key online?

Last I heard anything concerning this is that it will be released with US supported servers but they are looking into getting world hosting support.


I am sure in this day and age it will be offered as DL as well as disk version. If they don't they risk loosing a large chunk of potential customers. As large as ST is in the US I hear that it is pretty large, often times larger, in other countries.

We don't have a definite answer on that yet. And I've got a feeling they will wait and see how the connection is from the rest of the world before they make that decision.

A video with zinc did mention that it may initially start by Europe/US using a shared server.

i have heard that USA and EU share servers and about asia and australia well i gues that by looking at CO there might gust be 1 server for the entire world hope this answer your question a bit :)

Previous experience in MMO's shows that those of us outside the USA, yes there are places outside of the USA, will be using US based servers. It generally works out cheaper for the company involved...not to mention I wouldn't trust Atari Australia as far as I could throw them.

I just hope we don't get the lag issues that appeared during WoW, last thing I want is to be destroyed before I fire off one torp or phaser because of lag.

Rekhan already confirmed that they are planning on going one server. Hmmm, I can't seem to find a link. Anyway, they also confirmed that they planning on having one server in a recent article with Dan Stahl.

They said they weren't sure where the server would be placed. They mentioned Boston, that's where the CO server cluster is, and they run on one server/shard as well. It would be reasonable if STO would be the same.


So to answer your question, one server to rule them all (them being continents)!
