Just received this via email:
Dear Star Trek Online Closed Beta Applicant,
We planned to launch Star Trek Online's Closed Beta in 2009 but due to rampant dissatisfaction from the player base on the forums we will delay the Beta until 2015. Until then we ask the players patience as we implement the following additions & changes:
Ship Interiors (Starfleet Only - Klingon interiors will be added in 2018)
Player Factions: Romulan, Reman, Cardassian, Breen, Tholian, Terran Empire, Borg, Caitian, Kzinti, Horta, Tribble, Kirkians.
Player Tutorials: Klingon, Romulan, Reman, Cardassian, Breen, Tholian, Terran Empire, Borg, Horta, Tribble
Holodeck Games: 3D-Chess, Parrises Squares, Anbo-jitsu, Dabo, Tongo, Dom-jot, Kal-toh, Strategema
Ship Tiers: Akira from T2 to T4, Galaxy from T3 to T4, Sovereign from T4 to T5.
Ship Catagories: Move Intrepid from Science to Cruiser. Move Akira from Escort to Carrier.
3D Space Mechanics: Allow free 3D movement in space - rolls, loops, twists, etc. (Be aware that ventral/dorsal shields remain fixed at 100% no matter how much they are damaged. This will encourage players to remain on the same plane during combat.)
Klingon Faction: Remove House vs. House PvP, Add additional PvE content to match Federation PvE
Factions: Add PvE content for Romulan, Reman, Cardassian, Breen, Tholian, Terran Empire, Borg, Horta, Tribble.
Ships: Add ships for Romulan, Reman, Cardassian, Breen, Tholian, Terran Empire, Borg, Horta, Tribble. (# of ships must match Federation to avoid player dissatisfaction).
Weapons: Remove unlimited torpedoes, create mechanics for Star Base resupply.
Weapons: Revamp weapon fire arcs - Watch all Star Trek series to make sure firing arcs are cannon only.
Economy: Remove Federation credits. Federation players must now trade items instead of buying items with currency.
Player Ship Crews: Create functionality for all PC bridge crews. Bridge stations to include: Helm, Tactical, Ops, Science, Engineering, 1st Officer, Captain, Ships Councilor, Aux Control.
Ranks: Remove rank of Admiral. This rank is now only held by NPCs.
Ranks: The starting rank is now Ensign for Federation. (Klingon ranks TBD in 2020).
Player Advancement: Now with PC Bridge Crews, players must advance through the ranks on their ship - promotions only come through the Captain of your ship (start kissing up now!).
Player Advancement: Captains not allowed to promote members of their crew until they have logged at least 2 years (real world time) at their assigned bridge duty station (player demanded cannon realism).
Player Advancement: Since each ship will need a Captain at launch, ships will start out with a NPC Captain. This NPC will monitor your duty stations. The first PC to log 15 years (requested realism) at a duty station will reach the rank of Captain. (Players owning Lifetime Subscriptions are excluded).
Klingon Bridge Play: Klingon players can advance the same on their ships as the Federation. However any Klingon PC wishing to advance may "challenge" their superior officer to usurp their position. If the challenger is successful his superior will be reduced in rank to take his/her's previous position. If the challenger is defeated by the superior, the superior may allow him/her to remain in their position or kill them (see Player Death Revamp below).
Player Costumes: Add Miniskirts for female and male officers.
Ship Tiers: Move Akira back to T2, Galaxy back to T3 (player request - 52.7% want these moved back so we will).
Playable Borg: Create mechanics for PC control of Borg vessels. Each vessel must have a minimum of 50 players. All players must press the same keyboard commands at the same time in order for the Borg vessel to respond. (Recommend ventrilo or team-speak for coordinated efforts).
Playable Borg: Create mechanics for assimilation of any non-Borg PC. Assimilated PC will be forced to join the PC bridge play of the Borg vessel. The more PC's assimilated the greater ability your Borg vessel has to regenerate shields & armor.
Servers: Remove shard system. Replace with 10 North American Servers, 3 European Servers, 2 Asian Servers. Also add PvP Server and a RP Server. (Hardware expenses to raise monthy fee to $29.99 / mo).
Player / Ship Name Revamp: Remove current system for naming characters & ships (Capt. JigglyPuff of USS PinkBunny ruins player immersion as indicated on forums). Players must now submit desired names to Customer Service who will enforce strict cannon names. Expect your requested character name and ship name to be approved within 5 business days. (Expanded CS staff costs included in $29.99 / mo fees.)
Ship Customization Revamp: All ships will have standard color and decals for immersion reasons (player requested). Any changes must be submitted and approved by Customer Service (expect approval/denial within 10 business days).
Player Death Revamp: Remove current respawn system. Any player that is "defeated" in combat and is not revived by a science NPC or player within 5 minutes of the defeat will be then "deceased". The player character will be deleted by the system. (requested realism / immersion).
Ship Destruction Revamp: Remove current respawn system. Any ship that is "destroyed" by either a NPC or PC enemy will be deleted by the system. All custom items and settings on the ship are also deleted. If your player is not beamed aboard a friendly vessel before the destruction of the vessel then your character is considered "deceased" (requested realism / immersion. see Player Death Revamp).
Fan Ships: You may now submit fan designs of starships to customer service. If the ship's design is public domain it will be inserted in game as your personal T5 ship. However, the ship is also open to a player "voting system". If players feel your fan design breaks their immersion it can be voted off the game. Expect customer service to approve/deny fan made starships within 30 business days. The player is responsible for any copyright & IP violations that may occur (all fines/court fees/etc against Cryptic will be placed on the submitting player's credit card).
We again thank the players for their input into the design of STO and we ask for further patience so we can implement your requests. We will continue to update this list and further delay the Beta as the list grows daily.
