View Full Version : What features would you like to see that are related to the Tutorial?

We have some new information about Tutorials and I was wondering what everyone thought about how they would like Cryptic to proceed with it. I know we can't demand they implement anything but it might be nice to tell them what features related to the Tutorial we would like to see implemented.

Here are a few of the things we know about the tutorial in its current incarnation.

The tutorial will take several hours
Due to time constraints and the extra effort needed to make a second tutorial for klingons to teach you the same thing, Klingons and Federation players will both play the Federation Tutorial.
The tutorial will be engaging and informative and give players the knowledge they need to enter the game world and be viable both in space and on the ground
They are looking at making the tutorial something that you only have to play through once(They have plans on making it skippable).


As a Klingon i was a bit disappointed with the lack of a Klingon tutorial but I accept their reasoning. If they have a fileplanet open beta like they did for CO a lot of us will have already played through the tutorial at least once by the time the game hits retail. I'm hoping they implement the following


Allow us to skip the tutorial without forcing us to play it once in the retail version because we could have already played through it in the open/closed beta
Allow players to replay the tutorial at any time if they skipped it or need a refresher

I'm hoping that the tutorial feels like the last day of your training at Starfleet Academy.
Maybe it happens in a holodeck (so the starting zone isn't necessarily AT earth and crowded on launch day).
Maybe it would have voice acting from someone like Brent Spiner or another character from any series that is still alive.

I think to help new players understand the fact that their ship can and will get blown up, that the Kobayashi Maru scenario should be a part of the tutorial.

I dont think our ships can be blown up, so the Kobayashi Maru wouldn't be necessary and for a first mission it may be too intense for some. I would personally love it though!

One thing I would like to see is a character from one of the shows giving you advice on your first command.

Allow players to choose their faction and create their characters before they go through the tutorial so the federation only tutorial doesn't steer too much of the population towards only that faction.


This is my biggest concern regarding the tutorial. Players who come in without any commitment to either side play the federation tutorial for a few hours and then stick with that as their main.

If the tutorial is several hours long, and you can unlock klingons after going through said tutorial, perhaps it will be made so you dont create your character until AFTER finishing the tutorial, meaning your given like a generic body ((could pick male or female beforehand)) and go through final character creation AFTER the tutorial. also, perhaps there will be questions asked in which you can make your decision as to which path you wish to take, IE science tactical and such.

just get to learn the basics and move up enough to make me know what I need to.
