Yes, there will be, HOWEVER it will only be for cosmetic stuff like uniforms, and stuff you can acquire in-game without MTs.

My understanding is this...

There will be a monthly subscription. Most likely $15
There will be MT's for extra cosmetic things. Nothing that affects gameplay.
All MT items will be obtainable through gameplay if you want o invest time rather than money.

Will a forum vet please correct me if I'm wrong.

as long as it is not game play related im ok with it.
I like the thought of being able to get everything a 12yo kid with daddy's cc# can get.

I think.. and I could be in error here... not all of the MT items will be available by playing...

As an example... Uniforms, yes.. definitely going to have Uniform MTs... but you may, for example, be able to buy a Tal Shiar uniform, but unable to "earn it" in game (or vise versa...)

http://champions-online.com/store

Currently Cryptic is only selling non-combat action figure pets in Champions Online. All promotion and store bought items for both games have been graphics only so far.

In Star Trek they have given out a TOS admiral's uniform to people who pre-order from Gamestop, a TOS blue phaser constitution class starship to people who buy the collector's edition, and a mirror universe uniform to Champions Online lifetime subscribers.

They are clearly experimenting on ways to make more money then the standard subscription fee and expansions, but they do not wish to upset their playerbase in a way that will cause them to lose subscriptions. Expect them to increase the size of their store to sell everything they can that does not effect game play.
