What do you think the BO arrangement for ships will be? For example, would a Miranda have an extra engineering slot than the Centaur and Soyuz while they each have one extra slot for their respective "roles"?

My guesses so far:

Light Cruisers

Miranda - extra science
Centaur - extra tactical
Soyuz - extra engineering

Lieutenant Commander
Science (Science Vessel)

Nova
Aurora
Quasar

Escort (Escort)

Saber
Rapier
Ushaan

Cruiser (Cruiser)

Constitution
Excalibur
Vesper

Commander
Science (Research Science Vessel)

Olympic
Hope
Horizon

Escort (Heavy Escort)

Akira
Zephyr
Norway (Oslo re-fit)

Cruiser (Heavy Cruiser)

Constellation
Stargazer
Dakota

Captain
Science (Long Range Science Vessel)

Intrepid
Cochrane
Discovery

Escort (Tactical Escort)

Defiant
Vigilant
Gallant

Cruiser (Exploration Cruiser)

Galaxy
Celestial
Envoy

Admiral
Science (Deep Space Science Vessel)

Luna
Sol
Polaris

Escort (Fleet Escort)

Prometheus
Phoenix
Cerberus

Cruiser (Battle Cruiser)

Sovereign
Noble
Majestic

What makes everyone so sure that the different classes within a configuration is going to change anything about bridge seats? I hear (or rather read) people mentioning it, but I've never seen a confirmation of that anywhere else.

There are three Types of ship: Science, Cruiser and Escort. There are right now 16 Configurations (they're not spread evenly along each tier). There's a lot more Classes, and this is where you see stuff like the Akira and Oslo.

What differentiates the Akira from the Oslo is the Bridge Officer configuration. One could, for instance, have room for more Tactical Officers, while the other has room for more Engineering officers. However, you can customize one ship Class to look like another ship Class in the same Configuration. So, hypothetically again, you could customize your Akira to look like an Oslo, if you happen to like the look of the Oslo better, and vice versa.

Visually, it looks like this.

TYPE (Escort, Cruiser, Science)
CONFIGURATION
CLASS
Let's use our Excalibur class ship from the Ship of the Line as an example.

TYPE: CRUISER
CONFIGURATION: SURPRISE!
CLASS: Excalibur

Hmmm... with all the ship and BO configuration options some folks might get some nasty PvP surprises! I'm happy about this because my fav ship will be a Tier 3 Defiant. If I can configure it to be close to a T4 DPS wise I may not even play a T4 escort.

Many thanks. That had been bugging me for awhile and I'm glad to finally have that answer. It's neat to have this sort of variety, and yet be able to tweak the ship's looks even so. :)

As for your question... well, I'm afraid we've got little to go on presently about bridge officers. So far, we've never had described within 1 configuration at least 2 variants, so it's really difficult to evaluate the nuances that might be involved.

I agree that we don't have enough to really go on in-game. It is just for fun to see if our guesses will pan out. On memory alpha, the Miranda is stated to be a science vessel and the Centaur is stated to be a "destroyer" type so that is where my assumptions are coming from. They are in no way educated guesses based off of in-game information. This is just a to-pass-the-time thread.

My under standing is that the starter ships will all be identical in seating and very basic, ie. one of each Eng/Sci/Tac. Keep in mind you won't have to stay in this ship very long if you don't want to. Probably be offered your first promotion and T1 ship within the first hour or two of play. I could be wrong.

You might be right. I guess I hadn't thought of that. I just figured that if all starter classes are the same, why should the other classes be different. And again, it is just a guess for fun.
