So there was this thread on the swtor.com forums, something like "Don't let STO beat SWTOR in mmorpg", I thought that we'd get a huge amount of people voting STO a '1' and STO's hype would drop really really low. I mean, let's face it. For as awesome as STO's community is, it's not as large as SWTOR's (and I actually think that's kind of a good thing).

Star Wars isn't far behind in the MMO ratings tho. I would imagine its because they do even less updates than Cryptic and have far fewer screenshots. They haven't even told what the races are going to be in yet. Bioware does not seem to be competing to be released near when STO does. Heh. Maybe they are hoping to pick up disgruntled STO fans when they do release. Cryptic will most likely have the advantage of being the first out of the gate with its MMO.

I'm definitely playing STO although I admittedly gonna try Star Wars too. It will likely have more of a story and roleplay drive than STO will. Although, I see STO in the far far far future of having the capability for players to design thier own events and much like City of Heroes will likely never die as it makes a roleplayer friendly envirionment. Could be more exciting with stuff like Romulan expansions of course too.

It's not the # of posts its the content in your posts. So don't do short filler ports. Do a few paragraph ones. I heard someone did around 3 lengthy posts and got enough rank. Also the rank isn't updated until 2 am EST each day.

I never doubted that you guys could get it there... Keeping it there is another matter entirely though. That will require diligence from this community to keep new members coming over to vote regularly right up until release. Also STO has never made it above #4 on the daily 'Most Popular' list. To get that higher will require a lot more daily traffic to the STO sections at MMORPG.com. I'm already noticing traffic starting to wane just as I predicted when this hype blitz started. I REALLY want this community to prove me WRONG! Get over there and post in the forum. So far you guys have actually scared most of the regular trolls over there right out of the forum. They are still lurking in the shadows however waiting for you guys to slack off as they expect it just as I did.

So far you guys(and gals) are doing a great job. Keep it up and we just may top Aion as the most popular. That will be hard to do but perseverance from this community can accomplish anything. Keep those posts and votes comming!

I'd recommend giving the other games whatever you would like. If you despise the direction of TOR, give it a low score. If you rather like it, give it a high number.

Personally, I rated TOR pretty low because I don't like RPGs and think Cinematics are just downtime when I could be playing.

But, I rated JGE a 9 and infinity a 10... So it just depends. I mean, if you are totally an uber STO fan, go ahead and vote everything a 1. I mean, that could make sense for you if nothing holds a candle to STO for you... It doesn't really matter and the rules aren't really well defined. It's just something silly and fun to pass the time before release :)


EDIT: all you need to do to get your account rating up to 5/100 is post like 5 good/long posts somewhere on the mmorpg.com forums, and wait till 2AM EST when the account info updates. If you don't have enough account points (which is doubtful, 5 good posts should do it), then post more, and wait til 2AM EST, repeat...:)

You can only hype one game once, but you can edit your hype for any game.

I loged in yesterday after being gone for a long weekend and decided to check our rank to make sure we didn't drop down at all. My heart sank a little when I looked at the right pane that lists 2-10 and realized it wasn't on there. It took a few seconds to realize that it wasn't on the 2-10 list because it was listed under the big STO icon in the #1 spot! :D

It's also awesome to see that we've held a spot in the most hits lists since I've been back as well and that's even more impressive because we're competing with all games that have already been released!

I can't wait to log on for trivia tomorrow and see Awen's reaction!

Hype other games whatever you feel they deserve but PLEASE don't dehype other games for the sole purpose of elevating STO. If there is one way to set the whole MMORPG community against this community this is it. Please don't make a lot of alt accounts just for voting purposes either. Please keep this a fair and honest effort to hype STO. Being a long term member of the MMORPG community I can tell you these are the two things this community could do that will make this thing go south on us. We would have hundreds of MMORPG.com community members dehyping STO in an attempt to 'get even' if they though either of these two things were happening. It wouldn't be pretty.

Just a side note. Some people can't read dark blue text on a black background. I had to highlight it to read it.

It's a bit annoying and can give people headaches because their eyes can't focus on it properly.

It looks cool, but it's completely useless.

I know Awen's challenge is over and everything, but I just wanted to say this: STO has made it to #10 for Most Popular for the month! :) (It's still at #1for Top Voted, and #5 for Most Popular for the week. Great job, STO community!

We have inched a .1 back to our hype score after we dropped .2, so MORE hype lets keep it at #1

to any who do not know how to get thier ranking high enough to post and rate Hype over on MMORPG.com, post half a dozen times and visit it once on the first day and again on the second. That should be sufficient.

They update rankings at 2am EST every day so dont expect your rank to change immediately, but by the second day you should be good to go, and post and rate Hype for STO.

What you need is a 5/100 rating. This can be done in several ways:
EDIT: all you need to do to get your account rating up to 5/100 is post like 5 good/long posts somewhere on the mmorpg.com forums, and wait till 2AM EST when the account info updates. If you don't have enough account points (which is doubtful, 5 good posts should do it), then post more, and wait til 2AM EST, repeat...:)

You can only hype one game once, but you can edit your hype for any game.

Note:
-Short posts (sentence or less) actually hurt your rating.
-You get a point for each day you sign on. If you sign on to mmorpg 5 days in a row, you get 5/100. I think just putting a few long posts is much easier. You also get to weed out the flaming in the STO section, the STO section of the forums were quite messy before we got there...

Yea, we definitly need more hype. We got only littlebit more than 900 votes, and they got at least something around 2000. We got a very good hype per vote ratio but that wont be enough i guess... i'd say quality over quantity... nevermind if the goof wars fans win the hype. We only except smart players in the end :D
