First of the bat, i haven't checked the "All we know" thread or submitted myself to the torture of searching for threads on this subject. So if it's a duplicate...Eh. So if anyone spams me with that C&P generic answer i'll very likely loose my tribbles and end a few pre-warp civilizations.

That being said though i'm pretty sure this is the first thread adressing this issue. READ ON MY VALLIANT COMPATRIOTS!!?!?

The music of Star Trek.

What more do i really need to say? The music in star trek while not being a key element in the franchise has always in my very humble opinion being amazing and unique. Each separate series and even the movies to a certain extent has their own tailor made introductory piece of music, their own character.

Now, i love music. Especially when it has the words "Star" and "Trek" in the title and having spent the last few days with my Star Trek play list going it suddenly struck me.

Ship Tiers, Player Progression, the Cryptic engine, Those little Blue stalks that stick out the top of an Andorians head. We've covered and been told bits and pieces about practically every aspect of this game.

But what about the music?

So i start this thread in the humble hopes that others among the STO community are as interested as me.

Yes, i understand that it's more then likely that Music is one of the last things on the 'To Do' List of designing an MMO. If that's so then all the better.

I'm just interested to know about what Cryptics plans for the music in the game are, i don't mind if we don't find out till Release, but it'd be a nice change from the general line of questions and queries we always see.

To my fellow Forum and IRC junkies i ask the following -

What do you hope the music in STO is like?

Do you care if they even have music, or are you going to have your own Playlist running in a media player in the background?

I whole-heartedly agree. Star Trek's music is indeed a vital part of the experience imo. I hope they have plenty of "Trek type" music, but I think a way to possibly have a jukebox where you can program your own as well. I'll probably stick to the game's music myself.

I've played Eve for pretty much the last 2 years with no music or sound at all (old joke: "OMG! Eve has sound?!"), but I think it will be pretty important in capturing the whole "in the Episode" experience.

I found this Tweet from Cryptic_Matt on September 15th, and I hope they've continued to build upon it:

Really fun playtest tonight! This time was hooked up to a 1080p HDTV and nice stereo. Looked great, and the music was stirring.7:09 PM Sep 15th from web

:)

edit: whoops! I agree with EvilCustand with the death metal, but I love classical types as well. So I'll be listening to either/or hehe

I want to hear music from the series/movies but like always they hire someone to create new music for the game. In the videos so far the music is orchestral and trek-like but nothing from the shows. Oh well.. I'll get used to it. :)

I never actually noticed any music while watching the videos, i was too busy Nerding out.

It's nice they're going with the classic approach. I'm really interested to hear all the different musical numbers they have through out the game and i'm hoping that they don't limit themselves to just a few generic tunes, you know "Battle music 1, Battle Music 2, Flying in space 1, Flying in space as a Klingon 1"

I'm sure they're doing amazing work though, they haven't let me down so far.

The music of startrek is a must, but then if they don't include it.. we can always just put on a CD. :)
